First Friday of March

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

First Friday of March

Postby Colliemom » Fri Mar 05, 2021 6:46 am

Good Morning everyone. Up and at em early this morning. Getting back into my spring/summer/fall sleeping routine. Bed around same time each night, up around same time each day. Nice watching dawn come in. Cold one this morning, 21 degrees, but we are heading into a warm up stsrting today.

Off to the eye specialist todsy to see what kind of plan we come up with to get my eye taken care of. I’m kind of bummed, in that I was called on Wednesdsy to see if I wanted to get my vacine shot as Health Dept. Is having a clinic today. Had to defer because the only time slot open in late afternoon was not going to allow me time to get back here and get to the clinic. So am on list for next one, whenever that will be :( There’s another 10 county wide clinic too, county to my south is included, but you must be resident of the county under your health dept. area. There will be more. MI is now expanding to include those 50+ especially if you have a chronic health condition or are a caregiver of someone does or has special needs.

So that’s my itty bitty news for today. Have a great day all.

Morning Sue and All, another weird episode of wake up at 4:30 am. Will be a groggy day. :) Weather will be a few days of cold weather and then warmer next week. Sue good luck with your eye appointment and hope doctor has an easy fix. Irmi, casita looking good. Have no plans, just hang out at home. Be safe

Up early but I am an early riser. Like Sue I go to bed about the same time each night and get up early. I like sitting with my coffee, news on, and catching up on computer. Sue hope all goes well with your eye appt. I am not sure what is on my agenda for today. I have a couple of projects going but it is supposed to be rainy today. We had a few great days so I am not bummed by the rain LOL We still need lots of it, just not all at once.

Need to take something out for dinner so will have to check out the freezer and see what I fancy.

Received my first shot of the Moderna vaccine yesterday morning at a pharmacy about a mile from my house (SO much better than my previous options of the need to drive two or three hours!!).

At my 10:00 a.m. appointment, the technician was very good - I didn't even feel a prick. The setting was kind of strange, though. Still lots of people wandering around the parking lot with NO masks, there was a woman inside the pharmacy stocking shelves that was wearing a mask hanging below her nose - it just covered her mouth. All of the technicians running the clinic - the check-in people, the monitors, those administering the injection - just had on loose-fitting surgical-type masks.

The only person that I saw that was double-masked (as per the current recommendations) was me. I also wore tight-fitting swimmers goggles, because exhaled droplets can potentially infect one via the eyes. I know I looked weird, but I didn't much care.

Walking in to the pharmacy clinic from the parking lot, an (unmasked!) man walked up to me with a big smile (stopping about three feet from me!) and tried to start a conversation! I didn't say anything, I just quickly turned and walked away.

I find all of this pretty alarming - not particularly because of the potential danger to myself, but at the thought that these kinds of things are probably going on everywhere, all over the country, not just here.

As per requirement, I hung around the pharmacy for the required/suggested 15-to-30 (I did 30) minutes after the injection to be sure of no sudden side-effects. Inside the pharmacy was becoming crowded in the vaccination area, they had chairs set up for people to sit in as they waited - the chairs were no more than 3 feet apart (!). After about 5 minutes, with more and more people coming in I walked outside to wait, telling one of the administrators - also figuring if I keeled over outside someone would notice.

After about a half hour I began to feel very slightly dizzy and "woozy". I went home, sat on the couch, and fell asleep. I mostly slept the rest of the day. About 7:00 p.m. decided to get up and go do a little "tidy up" and wash the breakfast dishes that were waiting in the kitchen.

My body said "no". I just kind of felt over-all medium crappy (not majorly so, though). So I went back to the couch for a little tv-time, and then after an hour or so went to bed for the night. Slept well.

This morning I am feeling much better (my "reaction" might have had as much to do about going out in public for the first time in many months, and my anxiety, than the vaccination itself). Arm a little sore, but that's about it.

Have not taken any meds for any discomfort, don't plan on doing so. My arm isn't any more sore than it has been in the past from other types of vaccines I have received.

This morning I am feeling much better, will get those dishes done in a bit and then probably go play out in the garden.

And, oh my - the "tub lettuce" is growing like gangbusters - I can barely keep up with it!

Hope everyone here can soon be vaccinated. Seeing on the news that with the new J&J vaccine coming online, there might be enough vaccine for everyone, in all age categories, by the end of May.

We can but hope.

Stay well, everyone. Shirl, thinking of you.

Woke up a little early before I need to be up for work. Will be a short day. My next door neighbor wants a haircut later.

I took a fairly long walk around the park yesterday. I need to do that more often, like every day. I haven't gotten my fitness tracker set up yet but the writing on the instructions is so tiny that it is hard to read even with my reading glasses. Maybe I will bring it to work and see if someone else can read it and figure it out. Can't be that complicated  .

My lower back was hurting yesterday and is still hurting this morning. Have had a heating pad under it. Not sure what I did to cause that.

Found out there is a guy in the park who fixes golf carts so I need to get ahold of him and see if he can see what is going on with mine.

I ordered a spray product that is supposed to help remove paint so when I get that I will see if it works to remove the paint on the trim around the front window so I can finally have Dave start painting all the trim before it gets too hot out. He is currently painting the outside of their house now. I told him I was happy to see that he was practicing for my house!

Once I get the $600 stimulus check from CA, I will order the new dishwasher I want and get that installed. I decided the floor issue can wait for awhile.

I better get up and ready for work... have a good day!

EDIT... Anne, I am so surprised that the clinic did not require full masks. Seems very counterproductive! No one is allowed inside anywhere around here without a mask. It is strictly enforced. I have a few customers who want to remove their masks and I have to remind them to put them back on. Some wear them below their nose too. I don't double mask at work because no one can understand what I am saying and I need to be able to communicate clearly.
My manager wears two masks and I can't understand anything she says.

Good morning!
Just catching up a bit while Jordi napped.

I remember the polio shots. I was 5 years old. Mom & Daddy piled us all into the car as soon as Daddy got home from work & went to a doctor's office. I remember fighting them & screaming as I was terrified of getting a shot. They won that battle.

As for cars, I LOVE my minivan - they are so versatile. It's a 2006 honda with 202,000+ miles. I've had it since it was 6 months old & hope it lasts a while longer.

Anne, it's crazy that the pharmacy is not requiring proper masking. I would be uncomfortable with that too. Even though I've had both of my vaccines I still use safe practices (mask & safe distancing) when in public.

Sue, hope they figure out how to handle your eye issue today, but a bummer that you couldn't get your shot.

Barbie, when instructions are too small to read, I just google the item on my laptop, find the manual & can easily read it online. I hate those tiny, tiny instructions they include with things.

Irmi, the casita is looking great! Love seeing the pics.

Not much going on here - decided to seal & polish my granite counter tops - the one in the bathroom was looking dull near the sink. In spite of all the ads & reviews, it didn't make it like new, but improved it considerably. Just have a few more to go & that'll be done.

Take care out there & stay safe.

Past week, for me has been crazy. After working out daily, late Friday last week I began to feel lke something was wrong. I checked my BP and it was very high. Like way higher than I have ever had, even when first diagnosed with high BP years ago and put on RX. I took my RX ( which was half of lowest dose, which Dr had stopped 2 weeks before) at full dose and waited. Felt worse and worse. BP climbed higher and higher. At midnight I called on call Dr for the office I go to. He said repeat the full, dose and check in an hour and if not lower, head to ER. I drove myself to ER about 2 am. Indeed it was exactly as high as my cuff said. They did EKG, blood work and kept watch. Gradually it trended down. They did not want to add more RX to mix with fear that already having taken 4 times my usual dose, I might crash. Home around 4 am. Next few days BP still up quite a bit and saw my DR Tuesday. He doubled my dose to full dose twice daily. Wednesday I went to Curves as BP was in usual morning reading. Did fine, felt ok. Then, again around 4 my BP started up again and I felt icky. Took my second dose RX on time and sat to watch tv when around 9 I began to feel worse. Heart pounding, left arm tingling. Called for a ride to ER. BP as I saw at home was 180/124! Again EKG, labs, and this time chest X-ray. Nothng obvious on any of them, and again BP trended downward. Home again around midnight. Slept ok. Called Dr Thursday morning and he added a new drug, Lopressor. That RX is used both for high BP and for anxiety. So by last night BP 170 and I didn't care! :o Lopressor also lowers heart rate . Over night fitbit said I got to 52 heart rate. This morning BP my usual 150/90 so tiny bit lower than my usual morning read. I'm told be patient As both drugs begin to work. Ok I can do that, besides RX makes me not care.
Stress lowered this morning when my missing handyman showed up and went right to work. Hes been a widower now almost six weeks. He's gotten so much done already, which relieves my stress. Storm damage picked up, lawns mowed, weed eating done.
Off to chiropractor shortly. My left arm is better but I need neck and back done so I sleep better.
That's my weird scary week.

Good afternoon!

I sort of lost yesterday - possibly reaction to vaccine? So much for freedom! :) BJ, thanks for sharing your reactions. Monica and I get our 2nd shots the 30th. She's already mentioned I should come stay with them after - told her I'd phone if started feeling bad. Not really concerned, but I do have to move April 1 so will have everything prepared ahead of time. Fun to read what everyone is ready to go do!

Vaccines were given in a meeting room in the basement of the small hospital here. One nurse lowered her mask between patients - she was across the room. She gave me the shot and then apologized - she had forgotten to pull her mask up! I didn't even notice!

I don't remember about polio vaccine, but I must have had the sugar cube.

Now rain predicted here, but it often stays on the west side of the mountains. Radar looked like it would come and then it went north.

Martha, I need a new chair, too! Mine rotted in the sun last summer and I ended up on the ground when I sat down! Irmi, love the tile! Sue, hope they have a decision for your eye. Barbie, I learned from an uncle that rotating 15 minutes hot, cold, hot for your back works well. I always used just heat before that. Velda, definitely scary!

Had a college teleconference this morning at 8;00 am MST, so got up and was online for an hour. Then spent another hour checking and responding to email. I had gotten to sleep very late last night, so went back to bed a little after 10 am, and slept until past noon!! Weird dreams, however, and hope my nap does not mess up my sleep tonight.

My arm is about the same--sore, but not horribly so. I think I made a good decision getting the shot in my left arm because that one is already painful with arthritis, so I was able to sleep on my right side with no pain. I am hearing from a lot of my cousins and old friends that they also are getting or have had the vaccine. The more the better!! (Texas and Mississippi are NUTS and scare me. No way will I go to one of those states soon.)

Hope your BP stabilizes, Velda. I was told that stopping BP meds can cause problems with blood pressure going up higher than it was before you started the med.

Velda, that is a scary week! I hope the new meds work better. It is nice that they lower your anxiety but you don't want to get so laxadaisical that you don't get help when you need it. :o

Got sent home early today since it was very slow. Luckily, my first two clients each gave me a $10 tip. I stopped at Dickey's BBQ and got a BBQ pork slider for lunch and then a 1/2 pound of shredded pork for lunches this weekend. Then I got my car washed before heading home. It got so dusty from all the wind storms lately.

Beautiful day today, sunny with slight breeze. Just peaceful here. :D

Took some Advil earlier and my back is feeling a bit better. No pain in my shoulder today either.

Anita, I imagine you don't have a lot to move into your new place yet.

I better get back to my list from yesterday that I didn't finish. Oh, I better go cut my neighbors hair first. I hear her outside.

Another boring day on the shore. :) I didn’t receive the polio vaccine because it hadn’t been invented. Guess I’m older than dirt. :) I did see the movie Sister Kenny about a nurse who treated children with polio. Don’t know why I was allowed to see that movie. I got a Charlie horse in my leg during the night and screamed bloody murder that I had polio. Scared my mother so bad she held my hand the rest of the night. Anita, are you moving into your apartment in April ? Was thinking the it wouldn’t be ready until May. If It wasn’t for this site and keeping up with members I would have just withered away from boredom. Couldn’t take a nap so don’t feel like cooking, bacon and eggs for dinner. Be safe.

Anne, one down and one to go. :)

Just found out that my friend Ann, who I had dinner with her and her daughter last week, passed away overnight. She had stage 4 lung cancer and figured she had at least 3 more months yet. She seemed pretty good when I was there and we had a nice long talk. So surprised she went that fast. Her husband died of Covid 2 months ago. Their daughter Cindy who is also a friend of mine here in the park, has been taking care of both of them for the past several years which has been very hard on her. I feel for her losing both parents so close to each other like that.

I'm glad to see more of us are getting our shots. My plan is to head to my campout after my second shot on the 19th. I hope it doesn't make me sick. Probably not a good idea to go camping but since when have I done something smart. I notice I feel less afraid to do things after just my first shot. A lot of people are mad at the governor because he won't lift the mask mandate. I feel like telling some on facebook if they want to act like a Texan they should move to Texas. Some people still don't believe there is a pandemic and think they are lying about all the people that have died. Most people are wearing a mask except at the feed store. Maybe they think they are Texans. I see some at Walmart with their masks half on. I plan to keep wearing a mask if I go somewhere. I found out that my vet and his wife had covid and I'm in there all the time. His wife is a surgical nurse so probably caught it at the hospital. I noticed that I didn't see his truck at the office for a couple of weeks. No one else in the office caught it and that was a couple of months ago.

Anita, the chair from Harbor Freight has a side table and they aren't heavy. I have some other camping chairs that are heavy and I hate to carry them around. You just have to watch and not get the table wet or it will fall apart. I can't sit in those bag chairs. They kill my back and I can't get out of them.

I have been having a problem with two of the Directv receivers so started messing with them this morning. I swapped them around and one will work in both rooms and one will not work in either room. Went on-line to see if I could refresh the receivers. I could get in the house phone and cell phone accounts but not the Directv. I hate technology. I finally got someone on the line and it took her an hour to get me into my account but refreshing the receiver didn't do any good. I need to call them again but I'm not going through that again today. One of the local channels was off Direct again. It seems like we go through that every 6 months. I am getting really fed up with them.

Sugar and I had a brisk walk today. The neighbors dog joined us and Sugar was trying to keep up with him. I'm afraid to let her off leash. One of the neighbors down the road is nuts. I get in the ditch if I see him coming and he doesn't get over at all. I really think he would try to hit me if I didn't get off the road and I don't want him hitting Sugar. The wind was blowing from the woods and the dogs could smell something. The neighbor's dog is a coward and he wasn't going but Sugar wanted to get through the fence. I would sure like to know what they smelled.

I went to the post office and picked up one of the new Flounder sandwiches from Popeye's. I don't recommend them. Barbie, there is a Dickey's BBQ place in Lafayette and I like to pick up ribs from them. Sorry to hear about your friends.

Velda, hope you get your BP under control. That's scary.

Sue, hope you get an answer to your eye problem.

Shirl, thanks for your question to Anita. Anita, thanks for answering. I misunderstood also and thought it meant moving into your new place.

Barbie, my condolences for your friend. This might be a blessing in disguise for the daughter. Caretaking is so hard and sometimes it's good to see them pass when we know it's about to happen. Then again, I think it's always hard for us daughters to lose our parents, but particularly our mothers.

I'm trying to think if I accomplished anything today. Must not have. My bff is on her way to Arizona. Her youngest daughter and that family live in Yuma. Because of Covid they've been in strict lockdown as the youngest grandson, still preschool age, had a transplant as a baby and Covid would most likely be a death sentence for him. My bff is finally two weeks past her 2nd vaccination, so heading down to help them for a couple weeks. We were hoping to spend some time together, but I don't dare come around. I wouldn't do anything to endanger him. I'm glad I was able to stop and see my bff on my way south this past fall.

Martha, I'd love to give your neighbor a piece of my mind.

Judy, I had weird dreams this morning when I woke. I rarely remember dreams, but part of it stayed with me for a couple hours. Maybe that's part of why I accomplished so little. It was disorienting.
