Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Friday

Good morning all, still drinking coffee and planning the day. Liz, thanks for the Tina update and your long post. Enjoyed reading what is happening in your life. I finally delivered the Christmas bins to daughters garage and now need to declutter. Today is a trip to the bank, get gas and stock up on birthday cards for 6 great grandchildren for the year. Verified that submitting an vaccine interest form to the health department was all that is required. I will be notified when it is my turn. I download books to my kindle from the local library. They have a huge inventory but every book I wanted was not available. I placed a couple of holds but I was about 100 in line on most. That’s my itty bitty. Be safe

Morning Shirl and all. Thanks for the update on Tina, Kuz. I think about her quite often and pray for continued recovery. Nice to hear what is going on in your life as well.

It’s a cold, Wi day, snowy day here. Good day to stay in and do little stuff. I painted my bedroom yesterday, so need to rehang my pictures, Vacuum the carpet, put my new bedding onthe bed and that will be done. Will do the guest bedroom later. My bathroom and living room are next in line. Haven’t picked out the colors yet though. Hopefully will do that this weekend as want to keep going. Eye surgery coming up next month, so want to finish redoing rooms as much as I can. I have a month, but there are various appts. Scattered in that time period.

Barbie, hope your sink cabinet dries out. I had a leaky valve for my dishwasher where it hooks to the waterline under my sink, but I was able to stop it. Never use the dishwasher anyway. What dishes etc.m I use during the day I can easily hand wash. We never had a dishwasher in our first house because the background people didn’t have dishwashers. Then my parents bought a portable one, but when we move up north here we didn’t have any room in your kitchen or any place to put outside we didn’t bring it. No but I washed and dried dishes every night, great bonding time. Then when she passed and my dad and I moved, we had a dishwasher in that house which I used because there were two of us. Now that I live alone, I don’t bother. That much less water going into the septic system.

Mi is heading toward the goal if vaccinating 50,000 people a week. Course depends on vaccine availability. I am going to wait till March after I have my eye surgery. By then things should be straightened out and tge new one shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine might be ready.

Time for lunch. Have a nice day everyone and stay safe.

Morning Sue, Shirl and all who follow.

Wow. 50,000 a week is pretty amazing, and excellent news.

I have my eye on that J & J shot as well. Reading on my county website when I might get the vaccination - the "tier" has now changed to include those over 65 years of age, so I am now "eligible". Unfortunately, the county website also states that there are 25,000 "over 65" in the county, and the county is currently only receiving 1,000 vaccinations a week.

So I guess that means (at least for now) it will take 25 weeks - around six months - for all of us over-65'ers to get the shot. Seems really strange that Michigan can do so much better than this.

But I guess getting it in July is better than September (as it was before).

Maybe if J & J gets approval, things will speed up.

We got our vaccines yesterday and they scheduled our next appointment while we were there. It went really fast, no waiting in line and within 5 minutes of arriving we had our shot! I didn't even feel it. We did sit and wait 20 minutes to see if any reactions and during that time thankfully they scheduled our next appointment. Just hope there is vaccine available!. So far no sore arm. I felt really tired after mine and I am still sleepy today. Maybe just lazy or coming down from all the stress in anticipation of the shot! I think it is absolutely insane that there were no plans for how this would be made available.

Annie the county health departments here are handling the vaccine shots. You might want to looks online or call yours to see if they are doing the same.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have tried that. In fact, I have been checking the websites of both my counties health department and my local medical provider at least twice per day for the last few weeks.

It is really a mess here, in at least my area.

Going on my counties website, it states that those over age 65 are now eligible, and refers me to the local mega medical-monopoly corporation that has a stranglehold on much of northern California, particularly in my specific area (Sutter North Corporation) to make this appointment.

When I visit the Sutter North website to get an appointment, it states that "only those over age 75" are eligible - and they are not accepting "registrations" for the vaccine, nor is there any kind of "waiting list", nor will they contact me when it is "my turn".

Basically just nothing. It seems that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. :?

Both websites just say to "check back". Very frustrating.

I agree 100% with your statement:

Maybe not so insane. There is the niggling thought in the back of my mind that California was given the short end of the stick because we are a "blue" state. But who knows. I am gathering that lack of vaccine availability is currently the norm in many places all over the country, not just here.

[Sigh]. But your encouraging words are appreciated.

Thanks.

BJ, your state is way ahead of Louisiana. I called Thrifty Way again and this time they put me on the "very long" list and took my phone number. I looked on the health dept web site and there is very little information. They added Walgreens to the places in Abbeville. They don't tell how many doses they are getting if any. I think I will call the other drug stores too.

Not much going on today. The rain got here but it's just sprinkling. It was enough to get me wet when I had to go get my trash can out of the road. It's a good thing those cans are sturdy because the truck sure gives them a beating. I'm washing a load of towels because one of the cats threw up on the bath mat. They try hard to get on a rug to throw up.

Guess I'll go dig in the freezer and find something for lunch. I am still trying to lose the 5 pounds I gained for Christmas.

Well crap!!! I have another leak! I was walking thru the kitchen awhile ago and stepped on the vinyl mat in front of the sink and it came flying out from under me almost taking me with it! I looked under it and...yep, soaking wet! Water coming up thru the laminate again. So I put a low container under the sink with a paper towel in it and turned on the water. It is leaking from the drain in the right sink. So I sopped up the water under there and put a better bucket right under the leak, and tried to push out more water under the floors. Now have the fan running across the floor again. Unfortunately, it is very humid today so will take longer to dry.

The strange thing is, there is a lot of water under the floor and sink. I only turned on the faucet yesterday for a just a couple minutes to wash my hair. The water is not gushing out from under the sink, just a drip, drip, drip. I am hoping there isn't another leak under the floors somewhere too. I will call the plumber back soon here to at least fix the new leak and see what happens from there. Good thing I didn't wash dishes yesterday! Sometimes procrastination pays off! I could still do dishes on the other side of the sink tho. I checked that side and didn't find any leaks there.

I got up earlier and went to get my Covid test. Wanted to get one done after my trip to SB due to staying in a motel and being out around people for 3 days. I was pretty much the only one there to get my test done. Strangely quiet. I guess people are more focused now on getting a vaccine. I rewarded myself by stopping for a donut afterward.

I finally got approved for 2 physical therapy appointments. So I need to call and get that set up.

Not even noon yet, and I am already tired!

Hello Ladies --

Liz, thank you for the update on Tina plus you and Bob! Tina, praying you are doing better each day. Hugs.
Barbie, procrastination is my middle name these days and it bit me in the bum yesterday. Lost a lot on my computer and have recovery to do. Oh well. Hope your leak situation doesn't get worse.
For those getting the vaccine, I'd be interested to know which brand you are getting. Moderna seems to be the one I read the most about for side effects. The clinic here set up a phone line to call and leave name, number and status.
Shirl, I download books from the library as well. I love the days they add new ones - like going to the book store.
Sue, they predict snow here and then it doesn't happen. We still have ugly leftovers even with all the rain. Nights have gone back to below freezing.
Karen, so glad you have your bed and other furniture! Irmi, watching your casita coming together! Catherine, nice that you have room to store things for your daughter - I doubt that would the case with me. :)
Those of you running errands, I'm a little jealous. :) My mail (mostly Amazon pkgs) goes to the kids. They pickup my groceries, come get my propane refilled and they take away my trash.
Everyone stay warm, dry, cool, whatever - be safe!

Well, double crap!! Plumber just left after replacing the sink drain. Now I found another more significant leak near the shut off valve that is leaking pretty good. He is on his way back. I knew it had to be something else leaking since there was so much water under the floors!

...well, luckily, it turned out to be a loose valve there so he tightened it and so far so good. Keeping fingers crossed that that was that final problem! Now to start over getting the floors dried out.

I need a nap!

Good afternoon everyone,

Liz, thanks for relaying Tina's update to us - what a tough time for her. Sounds like your community has its act together - for covid & how you all take care of each other. A little taste of heaven on earth.

Tina, we're all thinking & praying for you. Rest & get well.

Sue, I, too, prefer to wash my dishes by hand rather than using the dishwasher. I force myself to load it up & re-wash all my silverware, some dishes, glasses & cups about every other month just so the gaskets don't dry out.

Anita, good hearing from you. I don't really have that much room, but I hate the idea of renting a storage space. Eventually we'll put some of it in my son's attic.

Barbie, hope that's the end of your leaks! yikes! :o

My daughter has been here a week & so far, so good. Only problem is now I will really miss her when she leaves next month  Her hubby has secured a tiny apartment in Paris. :) Thanks to google maps we've taken walks around their neighborhood. It is very nice! Less than a mile to the Eiffel tower, walking distance to the river Seine, shops, parks & the metro. I can't wait to visit them once this is all over.

I get Jordi back on Monday. My DIL said she is counting down the days to get some real work done with just Olivia there. I'm going to go to their place on Sunday just so he can get to know me again. Looking forward to having my little buddy back although I have enjoyed my time 'off' for the past few weeks.

Well, I'd better get going...
Stay safe, stay well,
Catherine

Anita, our Village got the Phizer(sp?) vaccine. I believe it was Walgreens that came and administered it. Only reaction I had and those I talked to is a sore arm at the injection site. Not any worse than other shots I’ve gotten.

my friends came to visit was so good catching up in an hour 27 years... we beat Reader's digest lol
couldn't believe that it's been that long...
again glad to hear about Tina hope this finds her recovery more each day...
Anita no wonder you landed where you did you are so being taken care of  lot better than I get when I go back North lol
made cake and dip for friends besides wanting it.. whats a b'day without cake right? I looked for a single serve at walmart last time I was there but didn't see any and didn't go to Safeway and they always have it... so made cake now need help in eating it...
got my chair cleaned out nothing helps more than having someone come to make you do more at least until they leave... then sorta fell asleep in the chair... then moved to the couch but couldn't go back to sleep..
it's been a really windy day chilling down as well
