Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Tuesday

Postby Shirlv » Tue Jan 19, 2021 9:13 am

Good morning all, some tree trimmings still laying in piles. Decided there are some that should be donated so will take my time. Picked up the Gibbs Greenfields cd, really like it.. Did make me sad, Barry Gibbs is the only brother left out of four. Have a pickup order at Sam’s today. It’s an hours ride but I will enjoy the drive and good music. Liz, thanks for the Tina update, wish it was better news. That’s my itty bitty. Be safe

Good morning Shirl. I will have to check out that CD.

It is cloudy this morning. Not a bad thing, as it will make it more comfortable for driving, as long as it doesn't rain. Need to try and program my GPS before I leave. The guy yells as me for going over the speed limit even if it is just one MPH over!! Drives me nuts! Maybe I should switch him back to Spanish! I am going to write down the route I plan to take back, so he doesn't try to derail me again.

Have a good day! :D

Mornin' ladies~~~
I left Big Bend area on Sunday, and am now back in the Kerrville, Texas area for 2 weeks. Guess I'm out of shape with not being able to walk/hike much since last March. The thighs sure felt sore after my last hike to Balanced Rock in the NP.

Will be doing chores and legal stuff with Ma's state while here.

Barbie, there may be a setting on your GPS for miles over the speed limit. I know there is on mine.

Sure hope Tina starts putting in some weight and soon. Get well soon GHL. We miss you!

That's my Itty bitty news. Stay safe.

Morning all. My plan today is do my Total Gym but skip treadmill in favor of goal of filling both big trash bins for tomorrow pickup. Weather again today windy with gusts. Rain maybe by Friday. Not holding my breath, but hoping!
Sad, sad news of a shoot out overnight at the state fair grounds (about 10 miles from mymhome). A suspect chose to shoot it out rather than surrender. He killed a k9 and a deputy and injured another and they filled him full of a hail of bullets to finally end it. Don't know full story yet,but to lose a six year veteran officer and k9 is doubly tragic. The k9 was sent through a shot out window at rear of car to attempt to apprehend but suspect shot tne k9 and continued a shower of bullets at officers. My thoughts and prayers for the widow and young child of the officer and the family of the k9, as well as their department family in their tragic losses.

Good afternoon Shirl, Barbie, Cheryl, Velda and everyone!

Shirl, I need to see if I can find that CD. This resort has large selection of them & books, so I'll check around. I think we started off cooler than you did this morning!

Barbie, have a safe & fun trip home. I can't wait to see your pictures.

Cheryl, I've enjoyed reading about your adventures. Will you be coming back to FL at some point?

Karen, I hope your appointments went well. You have been through so much and you're quite the inspiration.

(((Tina)))

Velda, such sad news.

We woke up to 29 degrees this morning, but that number doubled in 3 hours and right now it is 67. We will be having one more cold night and then we should be returning to normal FL weather. It's been so long since I've worn capris, I'll have to start tanning again since we haven't sat outside with decent weather for many weeks. I need to get over this cold weather.

Morning all. Well, ok, it's afternoon now. And I'm hearing a little rain on my roof and feeling the wind. Temps dropped also. Hopefully they don't eventually get to Florida since yours are getting better. Ours did for a few days but it isn't lasting.

I got my contract for my job this morning with everything exactly as we discussed, so I digitally initialed and signed it and emailed it back. I'll be working at The Riverside Ranch in Hatch, Utah. My job will be housekeeping for the motel rooms. I start working 4/10. I really hope I can get both doses of the vaccine before leaving. I'm on the list at the local hospital here to be called when my time comes. I also will keep in touch with two pharmacies here... I'll take it wherever I can get in first.

Tina, big hugs.

Oh, Beth, glad to hear that you have landed a new job, and hope it works out for you. As a (very!) young woman, I worked for one day as a "motel maid" (that's what I think 'housekeeping' was called back in those days, might be wrong on that) and found it to be. . . grueling, hard, physical, work.

Who knew? :?

As I said, I wimped out after only one day - just couldn't cut it at the time - maybe part of the reason was that I was also already working two other part-time jobs.

Hope it works out for you! Maybe you can do some sight-seeing on your days off.

How long is the job for?

I am at Lake Pleasant, northwest of Phoenix. When I got here yesterday, it was sunny and warm. Had a ton of work to do so never went out. Woken up by heavy rain this morning and then the winds picked up. Plus high today is supposed to be 62, but the winds are really strong enough to make me not want to take garbage out today. And will clearly NOT be going out for a walk--just too cold with the strong wind. They did need the rain and it is expected to rain in this area Thursday and then over the weekend.

Going to be in Mesa on Thursday and for next five days, and already made a reservation at botanical gardens. Expensive but I won't be back for a year or more.

Also, Barbie, my GPS also has an adjustment for speeding. I keep mine about 3 MPH over speed limit, except when in Ontario. Those people drive fast and will honk at you unless you are doing at lease 5 MPH over speed limit!!

Also, I am going to post some things in the General area about my aunt and the COVID-19 they are having at her memory care facility in Georgia. It has been stressful and both a nightmare and not as bad as I had thought. Stay tuned.

I woke up at 5:00 this morning with a headache, sore throat and thought maybe I had covid. Took 2 aspirins and went back to sleep. When I woke up I felt better. Think it's my sinus again. Covid is going to make me a hypochondriac.

I went to the bank to change the SS number on a CD from Harold to me. I was hoping the original paperwork was in the safety deposit box but it wasn't. I was able to change it anyway. The account was opened in 2001 so that was before our house flooded. Chances are the original paperwork was lost.

Irmi, it's 82 here now. Maybe it will make it to you tomorrow. I should to go walk Sugar. Since she got to go out yesterday she wants to go with me every time I go out.

Barbie, I have a love, hate relationship with my GPS. Most of the time I have the sound on mute. There is one campground I go to that it insists on trying to take me on a gravel road.

Velda, the gun violence everywhere is so sad. There is a shooting somewhere around me almost everyday. Yesterday two 16 year olds shot each other and both died.

OMG!! :o Talk about wind!! I drove back in a freaking hurricane!!! I white knuckled it most of the way home. Could barely keep my Jeep in my own lane. I saw two semis that had blown over on the side of the freeway. Signs up all along the freeways warning against high profile vehicles. Many semi's were pulled over where ever they could. The blowing sand cut down visibility. If I had been in an RV, I would have stopped and turned around right after leaving SB.

The ocean was crazy as well! Looked dark and angry and the swells were huge! I stopped in Ventura to take some pics and video. Palm fronds and debris were blowing all over and I could hardly stay standing on my feet. But the waves were so cool! Once they broke, the wind blew the tops of them spraying backwards. Never seen that before! I will post some pics so you can see what I mean. I will post the videos on FB where you can see the spray a lot better.

It stayed mostly cloudy the whole time and even had 3 drops of rain on my windshield when I got close to home. I started out with the AC on when I left SB but ended up turning the heat on as I got close to LA. It is windy here at home and about 60* and gloomy.

I fiddled with my GPS before I left this morning and got rid of rude "Jason" and decided on "Amy". Amy was much nicer but she wanted me to turn off the freeway at every single exit! It really got old after about 20 exits of her telling me to turn off and then get back on the freeway again. Good thing I wrote down good directions so I pretty much ignored her. Not sure how to stop that nonsense! I did find an adjustment for the speed limit. Also my speed is showing in kilometers instead of miles. I wish I had a cord to plug into a regular outlet so I could bring it inside and mess with it. I have a manual but it is in such teeny print! Will need to get my reading glasses out and see if that helps any. Technology drives me crazy!

Now I am pretty much exhausted! Hopefully I will sleep well tonight! Lola is very happy that I am home! Tomorrow I will have to call the plumber and have him come over and put in my new faucet and check the pipes for any other leaks.

Beth, will you be in Utah all summer? Another hot area but very beautiful!

I'm not sure where I'm going.  So far all I know it's that I'll still be in Texas until the end of February. I really should start thinking about it. How long will you be in Florida?

Speaking of wind.... Once again, I am in a scenic spot on a bluff overlooking a lake. And it was warm and sunny yesterday, but it has been crazy windy most of today. It has also been noisy because the slide awning on that slide was flapping; the vent in the bathroom was banging open and closed even though I have a Max vent cover on it, and the motorhome was rocking. Enough to drive you crazy, so I turned on the engine and closed the slide on that side, and stuck an extra pillow vent cover into the vent to stop it banging. The slide being closed also stopped some of the rocking.

Whew! Wind is supposed to be less by morning, but I will leave slide closed all night. I got clean clothes and my nightgown out, and I can access my bed fine, so will wait to open it until morning.

I owned a small motel... Did everything. Before buying it I would have said I never wanted to do that, but actually it wasn't a problem. Then I managed all suite motels... You'd think that means no cleaning, but believe me, when short-handed you do everything. And since I'm only expected to work about 3-5 hours a day (5 days a week) I expect to have a lot of time to spend sightseeing. It's a gorgeous area. I think about half an hour from Bryce Canyon and an hour from Zion. Then throw in Capitol Reef. And only 15 miles from the cute western town of Panguitch. I'll be working from early/mid April until the end of October.

Barbie, yes, see above for how long I'll be there. And it's not real hot where I'll be. Here's monthly weather averages for the months I'll be there:
MonthHigh / Low(°F)Rain
April 56° / 32° 3 days
May 65° / 40° 3 days
June 76° / 48°. 2 days
July 81° / 55°. 5 days
August 78° / 53° 6 days
September 72° / 46°.4 days
October 61° / 36°. 3 days

Barbie and Judy I had some wind here today also but not as bad as you. Temps are lower and some cloud cover... So far only a little rain but possible still, and even colder. I hope the cold doesn't last too long.

Barbie I dont know what kind of a GPS you have but you probably have settings that say avoid highways, avoid tolls, etc Also you can probably find a manual online for your GPS and model number and download it to your computer. Then you can enlarge it. I have a Garmin and it works great. I also use Google maps on my phone when I dont have my Garmin with me.

Got my infusion today. Only took them 3 sticks to get my IV....sigh. No veins is a huge issue for me. Good thing it is only every six months. My friend watched Emma for me, then I helped her put some furniture she ordered together. We went to town as I had to go to Petsmart (only Petco in Roseburg) to get Emma's food as they carry a limited supply at Petco for my brand. Picked up Olive Garden and came back to her house. Also got a cheesecake for dessert at a local store. Enjoyed it with a nice hot cup of coffee. Then headed back to the hotel. Will head home tomorrow, but no hurry like last week. Things are finally coming together and now I will be able to just putter after my window coverings are up on Friday. I am so looking forward to that. It has been a long 4 months of waiting, waiting, waiting.

Beth, those temps sound very do-able!! I hope things go very well for you there! Hope Ty likes it better too!

Just heard that we are under a flash flood watch for tonight and tomorrow. This storm is coming up from the south and that is when we usually get heavy rains on this side of the valley. Storms from the west rarely get this far. Winds will stay strong as well, and cold. I will just stay home and hunker down for a few days!
