MLK Day

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

MLK Day

Postby dpf » Mon Jan 18, 2021 11:40 am

Good Morning. Not often I open for the day. I have coffee and a couple different flavors of creamer. Vanilla caramel is my favorite. Not a lot new around here. In fact I’m bored. Both of my sewing machines started acted up so I bit the bullet and took them both in for repair and was told that it would be a month before I would get them back. It seems that everybody started sewing again during COVID but the repairman said he thought most of them had forgotten how to run their machine because after he cleaned and oiled them and threaded them correctly they ran fine. I know mine had definite problems, in fact the one might just be plain worn out. So I’ve started yet another afghan. I bought a Roku stick and have been binge watching old episodes of Army Wives. I watched it when it was first televised but I certainly don’t remember seven seasons and I don’t remember half of what I have watched. When I was working one of my inmate workers watched it too so every Monday during break we would discuss it. We called it our high class soap opera.

According to the information put out by the SDDOH I should be able to get the COVID vaccine soon. We shall see. I supposed to be in the group that starts today but according to the news they are waiting for more vaccine to arrive. So I continue to remain in my sequestered convent mode. Did get out of the house for a while Saturday night. We had another girl’s night in Missy’s garage and visited for four hours not-stop.

I’m extremely jealous of Barbie’s birthday get-away. Looking forward to hearing more about Beth’s new job. Feel so bad about Velda’s friend. And Karen finally has a real bed to sleep in! Irmi’s casita is moving right along. Shirli is going to provide all of us with fresh veggies! Martha is counting silverware and anyone who I have missed I apologize! My memory is shot!

Have a great day!
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.

Morning All, the tree is down. Have to do unpleasant jobs early. I use to iron first thing in the morning too. The trimmings are laid out in piles all over the floor. Guess I can’t leave them for early tomorrow. Trying to finish packing load the suv so I can go to daughters garage. She is on the way to #1 granddaughter who bought me the last Greenfields cd at Target. That is my reward for taking down the tree. Break is over. Be safe

P.s.
Karen are you still sleeping?

Shirl, great question for Karen. :) Pat great to see you and I'm glad you had some girl time. I'm not sure how much my doing things will change after the vaccine. At least not for a long time. Reading that people with the vaccine may still be able to be carriers is scary. That said it'll still make me feel much more secure. Now to find somewhere to get the dang vaccine.

Not much on my agenda today. It looks like we'll have several cloudy, cooler days after today so I'll do whatever laundry I have. And do some longer walks.

I LOVE my Roku. I have had Roku for about ten years now. When I first began, there were only about 200 "channels" available - not the usual ones I was used to, but any kind of free tv was better than $pay$ tv. I immediately cancelled cable tv (even though I had to pay a hefty "disconnection" fee to get out of my contract) and have never looked back.

These days the available channels are pretty much uncountable - there is free programming on Roku for every interest and every taste.

On another topic, has anyone heard of the new movie coming out, "Nomadland"? It is supposedly about a single woman traveling solo in her RV around the United States.

". . . Nomadland is interested in the forlorn, the left-behinds, the no-hopers; they have always been with us, but perhaps not this conspicuously since the 1930s. While the life trajectories of the people onscreen are not delineated in much detail, the dominant impression, starting with Fern, is of once-stable, income-producing people whom American society has failed."

https://deadline.com/2020/09/nomadland-review-chloe-zhao-frances-mcdormand-1234575485/

It is being advertised as a "drama", which makes me a bit nervous as to what kind of viewpoint will be presented. :?

Thoughts, anyone?

I'm looking to get vaccinated too - but one needs to keep in mind that even with 90% - 95% vaccine effectiveness, one can still become infected - in addition to still being a carrier.

None of the vaccines is 100%. :(

Even with vaccines, I will be masking and social distancing and doing the "sequestered convent routine" for the foreseeable future. If we are lucky, a version of "normal life" might be able to begin to be resumed by the end of 2021.

On the other hand, the virus is gathering mutations at an uncomfortable rate. Which might change things for the better - or not.

Good morning/afternoon, depending on where you are. Glad to hear Karen is sleeping in a real bed! Shirl you make me want to take up crochet again. Tina, hope recovery is progressing. Barbara, hope your trip is memorable and you had a nice Birhday by the sea.
I still need to get my Christmas boxes from sunroom to garage.
I like my sewing machine but it's buried in the spare room and probably needs a visit to shop again having sat, they told me the lubricants dry out and it gets stuck, and that internal cleaning is beyond me! It's one of the last all metal parts White models brought onto market as a special edition back around 1990 or so. I just don't sew much.
Mostly just staying home here. I've heard vaccines are starting to be offered in my county, but haven't found sign up yet. On one hand, I really want that 95% chance of immunity, but on the other, I've now heard of several people, including the daughter of my church friend (she is a nurse in her 30's), who have had pretty nasty reactions to the vaccine. But I don't know which brand they got. She described it as like having a bad case of flu for 3-4 days! The other person, a police officer, said he was so sick he was bedridden for 3-4 days! Not sure what I'll do if son and I are both vaccinated and get sick at same time. Also need to find out how to prove he is eligible due to his poor health.
Been unseasonably warm here and no rain in sight. Very bad for our water supply and next fire season.
I need to drag out carpet cleaner and get a couple of spots cleaned. Got laundry done yesterday and put away. So, after carpet, I'll continue boxing stuff to declutter.
Have a good week everyone.

I have an update on Tina. She hasn’t answered my inquiries, so I checked in with Dennis. He says she has not been progressing much. Doctor is concerned about continued weight loss. Feeding tube going back in tomorrow. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

I did so little yesterday that my watch, that is wound by my movements, quit last night. I'll have to do better today. I lost my favorite watch the last time I mowed in Maurice. I walked that yard 4 or 5 times and never found it. I think the woman that removed the links from the watch band damaged it. I thought a watch that didn't need a battery would be better. Not if you don't move.

I just got back from taking Sugar for her annual checkup. Yea, she is heart worm free. The vet gave her the shot that is good for 6 months. That's better than me having to remember to give her a pill every month. I have trouble remembering what I went for when I go into another room. He took her off one of her pills. She needs to go on a diet since she has gained about 10 pounds in a year. I needed to go to the bank but it's a holiday, as I found out. The bank lobby is closed so will have to call them in the morning to see what I need to do. I will sure be glad if this Covid crap is ever over.

Good to see you post Pat. I don't remember a TV show called Army Wives. When I was working I hated days after shows like Survivor or Big Brother because that was all everyone talked about and I don't watch shows like that. I think Directv is going up again. I would sure like to cancel that if it wasn't for the weather channel. The last time I was camping close to Lafayette there was a channel out of Baton Rouge that had news and weather all day. If I could get something like that over the air I would sure cancel Direct.

Thank you for the update Liz. Sorry it isn't better news.

Good afternoon all. Been awhile since I checked in but not even any itty bitty news to share. We’ve had a couple of light snows but luckily it has melted so haven’t had to shovel. Not hurting my feelings although I could use the exercise! I’ve just been puttering with things in the house. I got paint to do some painting upstarts but so far just haven’t had the inclination to do it. I really should just get to it! Karen, so glad that you finally have a real bed to sleep in! And Irmi’s casita is coming together. Beth, good you were able to get another job. PA seems to be extremely slow to get the shots. I don’t think they’ve even gotten to all the first responders yet. So no telling how long it might take to get to the rest of us. So for now I will just have to continue to stay on the path I’m on to try to stay safe. Liz, much thanks for the update on Tina. So not what I was hoping to hear but will continue to send good thoughts to her and hope for a turnaround. Barbie, your beach birthday sounds like such fun. It’s been years since I’ve been to Santa Barbara but always remember how lovely it was. I’m sure it’s much changed since I was there. I know I’m missing some of the other news from all of you but think my brain is itty-bitty too! Sometimes I feel like I just don’t use it enough! So with that I’ll just wish you all a good day and stay safe.

Good afternoon. Am in my hotel suite for a couple of nights. I have a Rheumy appt tomorrow morning for my infusion so needed to come down today as my appt is for 8am.
I sure do love my bedroom set and bed. My underwear and socks now have a home instead of floating around my closet LOL Emma doesnt like it so much as she cannot get up there on her own. I lift her up at night so that needs to suffice for now. I did order her some more steps so she wont be so pitiful.

Sorry to hear Tina isnt progressing as planned. Sure hope things turn around for her soon.

No idea when we will get the vaccine here. Some of my nurse friends have had it and said the first one wasnt bad but the second one kind of knocked them for a loop. Aches, pains, fever. But only lasted a couple of days. They have had both vaccines Moderno and Pfizer and the symptoms were the same for both of them so guess it doesnt matter which one you get.

Hi ladies!

Pat, yes, it's so good seeing you here! And all the others in between, it's always good hearing from you and happy all of you are being so vigilant about staying safe. I was talking to a friend in MD a few days ago, and the governor there has made it mandatory to wear a mask there, unlike here in FL. And so many that do wear masks don't have them on correctly. I also got an email from the office mgr. in our resort that line dancing in cancelled for the rest of the year and all other activities are cancelled until at least the first of Feb.

Our kitchen cabinets are scheduled to deliver Feb. 22nd, so things are moving slow, knowing the mudding, taping, sanding etc. doesn't have to be done anytime soon. I'm sure it will all come together and get done.

Liz, thanks for the news on Tina. I feel so terrible for her that this has happened and wished for better. I need to put her on our prayer list at church.

Stay safe, friends.

Pretty boring life for me. The highlight of each day is walking the dogs. Nothing else interesting after that. I really need to not turn on CNN! It’s amazing that on Wednesday it will be one year since I left to drive to Q. That was my 8th trip there in a row. Gonna really miss going this year.

I got an appointment at Kaiser for my first vaccination shot on Jan. 28. Hope everyone stays safe. I think we’re going to have to continue being very careful for the rest of the year. Sure hope Tina will have some improvement soon.

Whew! I am wiped out! I have walked more in the past couple days than I have in the last several months, at least! My shins, calves, feet, etc all are very sore! I am so out of shape! Feeling 60 right now for sure!

Went back to my favorite beach this morning and it was fairly quiet. Walked up the new walkway to the top of the cliff where I used to sit and watch sunsets. Someone left behind a really expensive camera lens up there. I took it down and turned it in to the rangers office. Hopefully someone will claim it.

Then went up to a park at the top of another cliff along the beach that I haven't been to before. Great views and lots of dogs and their people walking around. Everyone out here seems to have dogs.

From there, I went to downtown Santa Barbara to check out the shops there. They have the main street closed off to cars now. Many shops temporarily closed and some permanently closed. Was very quiet there today. I walked about 8 blocks up and then back again. Stopped at another visitors center that was open. Then went back to my motel room to relax. Felt like I was out all day but it was only 1pm when I got back! Took a short nap and then took a drive thru the upscale town of Montecito. That is where Oprah and Ellen live. It is also the town that had the terrible mud slides 3 years ago after torrential rains hit right after a bad wildfire in the foothills above them. 23 people died, 2 kids were never found. The area (just a mile from where I am staying) was covered in 4 to 10 feet of mud, trees and huge boulders crushing everything in its path. They just found a cat that had been missing for 3 years since the mudslide. The family's house was destroyed and they figured the cat had been killed but he was turned into the humane society a couple weeks ago as a stray. He was happily reunited with his owner. The owners wife did not survive the disaster.

Grabbed some dinner and just relaxing tonight. Will head out around 10am tomorrow. Gonna take a different, hopefully faster, way back. Want to get thru LA before 3pm when rush hour starts.

Sorry to hear that Tina is still not feeling well. Will keep her in my prayers.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I lurked yesterday but my itty bitty news was too itty bitty to share... today not much better... however the tree is down and boxed up and in the basement!!! yes always glad to see it fit into that box although why it does is beyond me  Velda the reason I call the tree the ugly tree is my sister says cheap trees can't be pretty... didn't want to say anything on FB like that though... I think I paid 38 dollars for it gave my dd the one I paid over a hundred for although it was a really pretty tree it didn't show off the decorations like this one does.. :?
was going to drain out the oil in the generator but the winds were up and later in the afternoon when perhaps they were down I was napping... wow I out smarted myself today .... I turned on Kuen to go East to the RV park wanted to check for a book at the library figured I donated so could take a few ... the Love Inspired ones that I looked for were very low but did find the book I wanted I read a book in that series the other day so checked to see if any more in the series and there was .... my records even said I'd read it but don't remember so going to reread it... so the plan then was to hop on the freeway and get off at the west exit so that coming back toward town I would be on the right side for McD's and ice cream Pilot for gas and on down to get diesel at Chevron the free way was almost stopped so going very slow see a highway patrol with lights on coming up behind me so pulled over what one is suppose to do but he stays behind says something over his loud speaker for the driver on the shoulder to pull into traffic oh my guess that would be me so did so and he proceeded to head up the shoulder... and I get that I did just what I thought I should even though wondering what he was going to do to go ahead... what I didn't get was the so and so that thought he shouldn't have to wait his turn as he went out on to the shoulder then edged his way back into the lane... got off at the exit then to McD's and into the to go lane what no Ice Cream???? so decided to for go Pilot just go to Chevron thought hmm perhaps Dorthy and Toto's but the parking lot was full so got to Chevron and filled gas cans and filled the truck then thought I can stop at Roadrunner and see if they have a couple of items and perhaps a single serve of ice cream they did and I got came home and ate it... got the bird seed into the bins... so that was my day... got up from my nap and some people have pulled in where the big rigs usually are...
had to laugh at a person that pulled in earlier today backed up it looks like really close to the road... why they could have pulled over to where Sandi's friend used to park  and be out of the dust...
have neighbors just don't know them
you all have a good day
