Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Woohoo! Don’t know if I’ve ever opened Morning Coffee. Pretty boring life I lead these days, but thoroughly enjoy checking in each day to read what everyone is doing. Glad you made it safely to Benson Beth. So sorry Velda about your handyman’s girlfriend. This pandemic is just horrific.

Since a couple commented to me after I mentioned El Salvador Quesadilla awhile back, I decided to post the recipe in the “Recipes” section. Obviously while fresh is the best, I often cut it into small pieces and it freezes well.

Stay safe everyone.

Mornin' Sandi and all that follow~~~
My Itty bitty news is I'm currently in the Big Bend area. Camped at a resort between the NP and the SP, so hope to explore a little of both. Weather is a bit cold right now but should get warmer for daytime temps tomorrow. This is a dark sky area so it's requested all outside lights be off at 9pm.

Stay safe everyone.

Well, Good Morning Sandi and all. . You must have gotten up at O’dark thirty really early. I just rolled out myself a bit ago.

Some freezing drizzle out there last night so schools are closed all iver northern Michigan. Not going anywhere today, so I don’t care. Did my errands yesterdsy and have some more paint chips taped to the wall,

Beth, glad you made it to your casita safely. My microwave was delivered to Home Depot like it was supposed to yesterday. The out for delivery was at 4 a.m. That’s why I wondered about it, as I know Fed Ex doesn’t start home deliveries at that hour of the morning. I got the email telling me it was there after I got home  and I was at the store earlier to get some paint chips. When I checked on the microwave, they said it wasn’t there yet. Gong back in agsin tomorrow anyway.

Velda, sorry about your handyman’s girlfriend. My camping friends from the UP lost his mother right after Christmas to Covid too. But she was 96. Still in her own though and not in a nursing home.

Martha, try Lever 2000 bar soap as it doesn’t have any perfumes etc., in it. Just a suggestion.

House cleaning on the agenda this morning. Real exciting day coming up here  Hoping we get some peaks of sun as had to determine paint colors on dark cloudy days. Want to decide on color so I get get into painting since we are getting going to have colder weather next week.

MI went into another phase for Vaccine distribution. Starting yesterday, those over 65 can now be vaccinated as the vaccine is distributed around the State. Medical personnel and nursing homes were in the first phase. This base includes emergency personnel (EMT, Fire etc) Essential workers etc. as well. State ranks 11th in the country for number of persons receiving first dose of vaccinations. I am going to wait until after I have my eye surgery next month.

Good Morning Sandi and All, still having coffee by the tree but the storage bins stacked in the bedroom are really getting on my nerves. Temps have been around 40 and will remain so for awhile. Since it dips down at night I cover the lavender and thyme plants on the balcony. Hoping they make it. Porch friend is a volunteer for a local hospital. The volunteers will not go back until July but she gets her vaccine this week. Glad to see vaccines are moving forward. Locally there is alway virus related sad news Each day I text my children “Good Morning” then here. Skim the dreaded headlines and hope to find something positive to read. It’s a struggle to stay positive. Beth, glad you are safe at home base, so what are your plans for the casita? :D be safe

Good morning. It is very warm outside this morning 52° but going to be a rainy couple of days. That is okay I will take it. I have things to do inside. I need to pack a bag as I head back down to Medford tomorrow for my medical appts. I will need to get back here on Friday as "supposedly" my mattresses will be deliverd Friday. Then my furniture store called and will deliver part of my bedroom set on Sat. Still waiting on the dresser. Even tho last week when I went there they said it was all in except for the bed rails and slats. We will see. I know I will NEVER buy anything more at Ashleys Furniture store. I am turning into a complete cynical person. IF I get these deliveries I will be D O N E with furniture stuff.

Sandi I think most of us are leading a pretty boring life. Some think the panacea will be the vaccine but I think it is just going to be a long while before we move on from this Covid. Even if, and when, I get the vaccine I will just continue to do what I am doing now. Oregon is very s l o w on their rollout. Not enough doses sent. 100 doses do not go far in a larger populated city like Eugene. Yet a low populated coast city got 300 doses....who in the heck decides this.

I have gotten to try a few recipes and have made some really good and not so good food. I love the One Dish Cooking site, and the Cooking for One. At least I dont waste much food because it makes it a small amount so good or bad I am not out much.

Today I will take my cardboard and some garbage over to the local furniture store as they told me I could just put it in their large dumpsters. That cardboard and styrofoam sure does multiply quickly.

Good thing I finally got the Ficus tree in the house because it got down to 32 last night. I probably should go walk around and make sure there aren't any broken pipes. It probably wasn't freezing long enough to do that.

Karen, I read the One Dish Cooking site all the time but don't think I have ever made anything. Some of it looks good. I am trying to eat what's in the freezer. Yesterday I bought a bag of frozen Salmon. I don't know why because I don't like Salmon. I cooked some in the Air Fryer last night. It was ok but need to find a seasoning that hides some of the taste. I sure hope the vaccine rollout picks up here. It's going to take a long time to get a shot if Abbeville only gets 200 doses a week and I don't know that they are even getting that many. I'm glad I can burn boxes and paper here. Someone put some broken plastic bucket in my burn cage. I will have to get them out and put them in the trash bin. It was probably the neighbors grandson.

I think I have all the Christmas stuff in the bin except the door mat. I have to find the tiny screw driver and take the batteries out. I want to haul it to the old house and get it out of the floor.

Cheryl, I have never heard of a dark sky area. I hope to someday make it to Big Bend area.

Yesterday I should have checked the cat food at the barn before I went to town. I'm trying to decide if I should go get cat food today. It will probably last another day or two. The neighbor that has calves in the barn feeds the 2 cats that stay at the barn.

Awake early today but still cuddling in bed as weather apps are telling me it's 27 degrees out there right now. I like cold nights but prefer they stay above freezing. Brrrr... Will be nicer later today so will do things then. I have no idea what I'm be doing to the casita now. Getting the new hearing aids took the money I'd have been willing to spend. So only little things. But I need to vacuum and dust and get a few weeks of laundry done plus either cut up and freeze the meats I bought or, preferably, cut up and make stews, soups, etc with them then freeze in individual portions for quick meals later. That's enough to take me through at least today and tomorrow.

I love dark sky areas. The entire Tucson area is part of one and has been for years mainly because of initiatives that were taken by Kitt Peak to keep the sky dark for the observatory. Of course, Tucson's growth means there's a struggle here, but it's also proof that it can be done even in cities. Ha, the things i remember from my Kitt Peak visit over 10 years ago. Here's a link to how, even with the growth, it's still working. https://noirlab.edu/public/news/noao1004/

Ha, I'm replying to my own post. I turned the water on to the casita and it just poured out the hot water heater. Shut it down. I drained it like I did last year, but something went wrong. I called the manufacturer and they gave me names of a couple companies who service their equipment. I called the one I was pretty sure I've seen in our park. The person who answered the phone was super nice but warned me that the man who works on the on demand systems is busy, she'd call me back with a time. She called back and said, expect him in about 5 minutes. She wasn't lying lol. He opened it up and knows the heating element is cracked. Didn't look further but did do all the necessary shut offs so I have cold water at least. Now I'm arguing with myself about what to do. He's going to send me a couple estimates. One to fix the heating element and hope it's three only problem and one an approximation on replacing the unit. And I'm also considering doing without for a year or two. Plugged in these are guaranteed not to freeze above about -10 degrees. But I can't leave it plugged if I leave and put my site in the rental pool. He told me I could even keep an eye out on the same model for sale, etc, but just hold onto it. He also will show me all the extras beyond draining it if I get it repaired/replaced, but said the only guarantee is not going in the rental pool and keeping electric to it. Decisions, decisions.

Because I got water at least I got one load of laundry done. Time to start thinking about dinner.

Long day for me. I had an appointment at Boulder City RV at 10:00 a.m. They fixed three things: 1) removed the stub of the old TV antenna on my roof that thunks when I hit a bump and drives me nuts, 2) replaced the fresh water valve in my toilet that was leaking, and 3) caulked around a couple of cracks on my roof and around the vent that broke loose. Toilet took the longest, but bill was under $400 including parts. And the best part about this place is that it tends to not be busy because it is a small place.

OK, now for the confession about the vent pipe that was loose. You know how if you have a black tank flush system, they tell you to never flush the tank unless you open the valve??? Good advice, but it does a better job of flushing if you close the valve for a couple of minutes and let the tank fill partially. Except, I forgot and left it closed too long while I chatted with someone, and when I opened the valve, it blew sewage up through the vent and all over my roof. Yuck. Son rinsed it off, but the explosion loosened the vent, so it had to be fastened down and caulked before it rained and caused a leak. I was VERY lucky my bathroom never had any sewage explosion there.

So, do what I say, not what I do.

I also stopped at Camping World and bought a new, super-duper color backup camera. My old one is grey on grey and pretty much useless. I did not have time to get it installed, but at least I have it. Will have to find someone in Arizona. Also stopped and got a couple of prescriptions and also picked up a letter I had had sent general delivery. Made it back to campground and had to sanitize my entire bathroom because of COVID. Hated to have someone inside, but no choice with leaking toilet.

Nothing much going on here. Just being lazy like usual. Have been watching You Tube videos. TV and FB have been too upsetting lately so I had to take a break for a couple days, maybe a couple more... I am thinking my birthday next weekend will be a little more exiting than I thought, but not in a good way. Hearing about more political mayhem being planned  Of course Covid is totally out of control and getting worse around here.

So I just stay away from the news and hunker down in my little house with my little cat. :D

Velda, I feel so sad for your handyman! What devastating news! We have at least 4 cases here in the park now. I chose not to go to golf this morning since no one will wear masks there and we have more women playing now.

I finally got my table put together. Put down some plastic runner stuff on the floor in case I spill something. So just need to get my stuff organized and start practicing some techniques I want to try that I have been learning about.

I need to go to WM tomorrow but I might just do a pick up order.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Busy day today...

Went to San Diego to bring up another load from DD's place & help clean things (like the oven). Sold the old bed frame, now trying to sell the mattress. I'd send it up to you Karen, but it isn't worth it. Learning about 'no shows' - folks who say they want it but never show. Will give tonight's lady this evening & then start contacting others - whoever gets here first, gets it.

My son & daughter-in-law tested positive for covid, so I got tested. Mine was negative. I've been dropping off groceries for them & seeing the baby thru the kitchen window. He looks at me with a very confused look on his face. His pediatrician thinks he's got it too (he ran a fever for a couple of days) but said he doean't need a test - told them just to watch him. They're going to stay away from me for at least 2 more weeks. We don't want to take any chances. Plus my DD will be here & we dont' want her to miss her flight to France.

Tomorrow I need to find 'homes' for the stuff I brought back today. Shirl, I, too, am tired of the bins in my bedroom. ;)

California has opened up vaccines to anyone over 65 - the problem is trying to get an appointment. Even getting a test appointment was tough. I'm going to keep trying in the wee hours of the morning - that's how I got my test appt.

That's about it for tonight.
Sleep tight everyone, stay safe & warm.
