Dec. 26, the Day after Christmas

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Dec. 26, the Day after Christmas

Postby Irmi » Sat Dec 26, 2020 3:33 pm

Hello friends!

Tina, I hope you are finally starting to feel better.

Morning has come and gone and it's quickly working towards dinner time. We had lots of large meals the past couple days, so will be having leftover spiral ham, Swedish meatballs, and other sides to clean out the refrigerator.

Our low temperature this morning was 27.5 degrees, according to a local resident in the resort who has a very sophisticated weather station on his lot and made the announcement to all of us this morning. It is currently 49 and we'll be going down to around 30 tonight. I'll be so happy when this cold snap is gone, which should be tomorrow.

We had a wonderful Christmas, although it was quiet, but that seems to be a sign of the times lately. Stay safe, everyone!

Hi IrmI, you snuck in right when I was posting, so I moved my post over here.

I enjoyed Christma Eve day and the Eve, just doing nothing other than snacking, watching or half listening to Hallmark movies, the which have left a lot to be desired this year other than a couple here and there, and the News for a bit, playing games on my IPad. Did so much snacking that I hardly had room for pizza. Plus I was in a hurry when I ordered it, I asked for mushrooms and forgot pepperoni  . No wonder it was a little bland  Will rectify that on next trip to the store.

So yesterday basically didn’t feel like a holiday. After sitting around the day before, I decided to put away the stuff from my trailer and some other stuff that has been sitting on the basement floor since October  Same to be said for my workshop. Then dogs and I took a nice long Winter s day walk. Snowed on and off all day and last night as well, so about 3 inches of powder out there. Thought back to Christmases past and how many Christmas Day walks have been taken over the years.

Anne, I would be more than happy to post a Winter picture of my house for you, but right now there hasn’t been enough snow to make it worthwhile, it’s been coming and going. When we get enough to make it look nice, I will take a picture for you and anybody else who may be interested.

Have a nice evening, those on the East and a rest of the day, those on the West and of course, those of you in the middle

Happy Day!

Irmi and Sue snuck in while I was typing! :)

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas no matter how you spent it! It is so good to see a post from Tina, but so sorry recovery progress is slow. No apology necessary, Tina! Keeping the good thoughts and prayers.

Woke up to about 3 inches of beautiful snow. It started just before we had dinner yesterday. The kids treated me to a wonderful Christmas including a few things for the kitchen when it happens. :) When bringing me home, we stopped in Leavenworth to see the lights. I'd love to post some photos, but the site Mitch introduced us to and that I have used is now marked unsafe by my Norton Internet Security. I tell it to continue which it does, but it won't let me load photos. :(
I can't seem to remember how to do it the 'old way'.

I'm headed out to check propane and clear some snow off vehicles.

Be safe!

Well after raining all night and part of this morning the sun has come out and it is very pleasant out. We have a cold snap coming for a couple of days so no rain yay.

I am sitting watching DIY youtube videos on how to do some things around here. I even took notes because when I go to find a good video again it is poof gone into cyberspace. My robot vacuum is running, and I am cleaning my oven (self cleaning) so things are getting done but I dont even have to move out of the recliner HA HA HA

Going to have some lunch and watch a movie. Then I really do need to hook up my new printer. Sigh, always another learning curve. Hopefully it will be easy.

Good afternoon gals!

Glad to hear from Tina altho it sounds like she still has a long road to recovery yet :( .

I woke up at 8:30 this morning and started looking at stuff on the internet. A short time later, I fell back to sleep. I was woken up by my doorbell, and it was the painter guy but I told him I decided to paint the trim myself. Then I looked at the clock and it was just after 1pm!!! Wow! Don't know why I slept for so long!

I still have two helpings of spaghetti left! It was a huge container I got! I usually get the "lunch" special with a salad for $8 and that is at least 2 good sized portions. This is more than twice that much for $13! And it is really good! And they put a lot of sauce on it, unlike a lot of places where I run out of sauce and am left with a lot of nakes noodles.

Need to get going and do something around here.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Spent most of yesterday at my son's house, opening gifts and Zooming with relatives. For me, that was just my Ohio family, but it was nice to see kids. They live south of Cleveland in the snow belt, so got a couple of feet of lake effect snow.

Today, my son took me and my grandson to Best Buy. Grandson wanted to buy a headset, but store is all out, so had to order a set. I found an external DVD player/writer I can use with the new computer I got last winter which did not have one built in. He also took me to Trader Joe's so I could pick up a few things I can't get anywhere else--like really good frozen chicken spring rolls and some fish sticks. They have the best fish sticks--remind me of the ones we used to get when I was a kid, good solid fish and not much breading. Oh, and can you believe we could not find split peas in either of two stores?? Apparently, everyone has a leftover ham bone for soup!!!

Unfortunately, the scrape on my foot was really bothering me, so I was walking slowly. It has been 12 days since my fall, but I scraped all the layers of the skin off on this thing, so it is healing very slowly from the edges and does a lot of seeping and is really sore. Hard to wear even sandals with it. Also, whole leg is still swollen from the really bad bruise on the back of that leg--keep bumping it on things. NOT planning on riding my bike until all of this is completely healed, to say the least, and being more careful where I ride in the future!!! :o Back home now with scrape re-bandaged and foot propped up, watching TV.

The storm just left my house. My sister called this morning and wanted to know if I was going to be home. She, her granddaughter and granddaughter's husband were going to a town near here to look at mobil homes. They were going to come by later for supper. I usually give my sister and her boys food from the specialty meat market for Christmas so went and picked up their food. Went to Walmart for something to cook I'm just glad they didn't decided to spend the night.

Irmi, that cold front slid right past here and went to Florida. The coldest we had was 38. I still haven't picked up anything to insulate the pipes and faucets. I keep hoping we don't have any freezes but we probably will.

Judy, I didn't know anyone still made fish sticks. I think the nearest Trader Joe's might be in Baton Rouge. Take care of your foot and don't wait too long to get it looked at if it doesn't get better.

I'm with Martha Judi you may need to have it checked out..... sorta scary going to the doctors right now but from what I hear they are doing well with protocol..
I got most done that I intended to do ran out of propane last night other than a small canister the size you usually use for grills... so had to take the two 9 gal ones in and get filled... then off the truck and to their spot.... that is a chore... :o washed my sheets today really need new ones but really want a new mattress first...have hated this one since it was given to me... and that has been 3-4 years ago... at least perhaps 5 really don't remember some friends gave it to me... it's an air mattress the type where both sides can be aired up to what you want... but no numbers that would make it so much easier as I can't get both sides the same so there is at valley to roll into... be it a half an inch it is noticeable  and it doesn't fit the platform so over hang... just hate the looks of it and everything about it... :? so now on the look out for a mattress anyone that has been to the big tank know if they ever saw mattresses? I don't want to window shop but if knew that there was a good chance of finding something would look quickly I haven't been to the big tent in a couple of years this year is really not the year I want to go to it...
by the time I washed sheets got propane and manhandled it to its place both of them and the bed made I was done dishes will wait for the dish fairy to arrive... or I will eventually get to them...
we did a zoom as a family last night was really nice to see some of my family. hopefully we will do it again...
think Monday I need to go fill jugs with water... and the plant eating creature is back!!! some how got on the table and went to it... I really don't think it is deer as there is no dropping from them and the planter that is taller wasn't as disturbed
as the lower one... wish I had a trail cam... I moved the chair that perhaps was the method of getting up to the table also don't think it was rabbits as how would they get on the table??? know they are here but can't see them getting up on the table...
you all have a good day
so good to see Tina post

Judy, are you still just using some kind of antibiotic salve on it? Things like Neosporin stopped working for me a couple years back - not sure why. What really works for me these days is Betadine (this is used in hospitals for surgery prep, I think). You shouldn't be messing around with that thing after so very long - if you are not allergic, Betadine might do the trick.

Thanks, Sheila and Martha, for your concern. I did talk to the United Health Care nurses line last week because it was stinging so much from the triple antibiotic ointment I was using. She suggested I might be allergic to the combination and to stick to plain bactricin. That did help, Anne, so you are right about changing ointments. I guess I thought three antibiotics in an ointment is better than one, but the nurse pointed out that three could cause more of a reaction, and you would not know which was the culprit. It was stinging so much, I could not sleep at night. Got up three nights in a row to wash off cream and put on a dry bandage.

I also found some leftover Keflex Christmas Eve. Yes, know I am not supposed to do that, and the scrape really does not look infected. It is red around the edges, but the rest of my foot seems fine. It's just taking a long time to heal because I removed so much skin, so I just wanted to be sure it was OK. Got enough for 7 days, and if not substantially better by then, I will find an urgent care place, but really afraid to go inside any medical facility right now. (Daughter-in-law looked at it and agreed it looked like it was healing from the edges, but agreed Keflex was not a bad idea. As usual, son would have rushed me to emergency room, so did not show it to him.)

Judy, there are also antibiotic ointments that include a pain reliever. I’ve found them very helpful in the past.

Sandi, the first one I tried also had a pain reliever but nurse said that also could be irritating my wound so to start with bactricin without it. It has been better with just the single ingredient. I gave my tube of triple antibiotic with pain reliever to my son. Might try bactricin with pain reliever in the future to see what happens.
