Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thursday

Morning All, yea! Eight hours sleep and only up one time. A 11pm-7am schedule works for me me, it’s daylight. Picked up Walmart order yesterday. Unloading in the parking lot, was so windy and wispy hair was in my eyes. Needed to make a second trip so put on a cute hat. Did I mention the wispy hair is also like silk. By the time I reached the door to leave the hat had slid down past my eyebrows. Changed into a hoody, so walked down the hall with a mask and a hood, only eyes showing. Hope I don’t scare anyone. Guess me pushing an old ladies cart isn’t scary :D #2 daughter keeps asking by text if she should bring my Christmas tree and decorations I was thinking about skipping the tree for the first time in my life. Haven’t felt like it mentally or physically. My family won’t be together this year. My many trips to the hospital shook the whole family and me spending Christmas without a tree will upset them again. The tree will send a message, mom is back to normal.

An Italian friend gave me a bumper sticker “Justa kepa go”. You see this Tina. :)

Good morning Shirl. Maybe you could get a small tree. I have a 4' tree in a heavy pot that I can just store in the closet. I don't know if the pot is cement but it's heavy enough that the cats can't turn it over. It has lights on it and sometimes I don't even put anything else. I put it on one of the end tables. After Christmas I sometimes put Mardi Gras beads on it and leave it up longer. Then I guess you could decorate it for Easter. lol When my boys were small and we had a big tree I would still be finding Christmas decorations for the 4th of July.

I need to quit drinking coffee and finish loading up. I want to leave by noon. The campground is only about 2 hours away. I didn't get the motorhome washed yesterday. It was so windy that I would have ended up wetter than the RV. I went and picked up a gallon of eggnog so I wouldn't have to get into and out of the parking lot at the place in the motorhome. It's right on a corner and I can't see who is coming.

Last year at the Christmas campout the non-crafters had a puzzle to work on. I guess everyone liked that because this year 5 of us bought puzzles. Quite a few in this group are crafters. The campground has a large meeting room so they will be set up working on their stuff. I want to say junk but I won't. lol

I hear you on this one, Shirl. I definitely hear you, especially the "mentally or physically" part. I won't be together with my family this year, either, but will do a Christmas video visit over the internet, and for that I am very thankful.

I have about decided (like you, for the first time in my life) to skip all the Christmas decorations altogether. When on video chat last weekend with my kids, my daughter was excitedly talking about decorating her home the day after Thanksgiving (as I always used to do), and asked me when I was going to start. I said I was probably going to take a "pass" on Christmas this year.

I could see she was really surprised, shocked even, and probably even a little sad.

From the time my kids were really small, I have always tried to do a bang-up Christmas, whether we had money to spend - or (mostly) not. When my daughter was young, and I had an extremely limited budget for food, let alone presents, I made her a really nice doll house (about 3 foot tall and two food wide!) out of small cardboard boxes glued together, covered the outside with paper mache "siding", and used leftover bits of linoleum for the "flooring". I furnished it with plastic furniture from the Dollar Store. In those days one could get a package of three or four pieces of crappy miniature plastic furniture for $1.00.

She loved it, and I still have it.

When my kids were older, I even went so far as to take my ladder and climb up on the roof of our house, yelling "Ho-Ho-Ho" and stomping around like reindeer would. Of course, being older kids, they both knew it was me, but we all had a really good laugh about it when I got down.

Christmas was really fun in those days, particularly after the ex had gone.

Like Martha, I have a small artificial tree, about 4' tall, that I put on a box in my living room to make it seem taller. I fully decorated it, complete with ornaments and blinking colored lights. I just throw a sheet over it after Christmas and put it in the garage when Christmas is over. The next year all I need to do is take the sheet off, carry it out of the garage, and plug it in and it is ready to go!

Just about the easiest Christmas tree ever!

What my kids don't know, and I will not tell them, is that for the last several years I have only decorated my house early in the morning of the exact day they are due to arrive (whether on the actual holiday or not, doesn't matter so long as they come). They usually stay over night, the minute they walk out the door and until their car turns the corner down the street, I stand outside waving, then go inside and immediately take everything back down and put it away. Within an hour or so I am done.

I do this partly because I worry about my sweet Joe boy getting into the decorations (none of which are dog-friendly). But mostly just because I can't stand looking at the decorations when they are not here.

When they were kids, I decorated our small (seven hundred square foot) house to the "nines" the day after Thanksgiving, and didn't take anything back down again until New Years Day. I even made special Christmas curtains for the windows and Christmas throws and Christmas doilys (out of discount Christmas fabric from the fabric store), and. . . you name it.

So each year we had an entire month of Christmas!! It was GREAT!! And I absolutely LOVED it.

Back then, I was intentionally trying to make wonderful memories of Christmases past for my kids as they grew up. I know that I have succeeded.

That's Christmas enough for me.

Happy holidays, everyone.

SO again the furniture saga continues. Email received that they cannot deliver my mattresses today...damn 7 - 10 days....maybe. Well meanwhile I am going to go look and see who has what in this town. I just got such a good deal on a couple of really good mattresses from Macy's so guess I just might suck it up but no guarantees. I am a tad tired of sleeping on the blow up bed on the floor. Also going to go to Ashleys and see if they are ever going to get my bedroom set in, it has been 2+ months now or I might just get a refund and go shop elsewhere. I need to find the local liquor store, I am just sure I need some Baileys and peppermint schnapps.

Yesterday my furniture from new "favorite" store, (because they have delivered everything as promised) arrived my 2 tv stands and a dresser for the guest room. So spent the afternoon removing, reattaching, sorting out the myriad of cables I had behind the one TV stand. As it holds my cable box, router, modem, security camera module and sound bar. So I became a bit of a contortionist during this escapade. I turned everything on and much to my amazement IT ALL WORKED. The other one in the living room easy peasy. Cable box and tv.

Well I have a couple of boxes of Christmas Ornaments and a ceramic fiber optic tree that requires plug in only. I am not decorating this year, just not in the mood and they are in my storage unit in Medford. I have enough to contend with besides dealing with that. Next year should be better. I know when my kids were little we decorated big time even had lights all over the house, they loved it. But now it seems like it is just another day to me. I enjoy some of the Christmas specials and music but that is it. I am also used to working on Christmas hence the just another day theory. I usually hate any kind of shopping this time of year due to the crowds but now I can go buy that box of soap or whatever I need without standing in line for half hour. Stores seem rather unbusy this year. I know so many are buying online. That would be me too. Since my new town doesnt really offer any fun stores other than the big box kind I have just been staying home.

I am going looking for a couple of bedside lamps this morning. I looked online but I really need to see them up close and personal. I dont know what I want yet but I am hopeful they have some choices here and not too dang spendy.

Well stores open at 10am so guess I will get out and get home as safe as possible.

Hi All -

Karen, all these postponements remind me of working with contractors!
Peggy, I am settling in Leavenworth, Washington - a Bavarian town in the mountains. New apartment is to be ready May 3. My younger daughter and her guy live 7 miles away and she works 2 blocks away. Sheila, I am so content with my decision even if this winter is requiring adjustments, but it's just one winter in the camper.

I always began Christmas decorating as soon as Thanksgiving was over! I can't imagine living in this town without decorating - would make me feel like Scrooge. :) Christmas decorations were one of the things I couldn't part with when I went back to full time so they are at my daughter's. She uses many of them and when she's ready to pack them up this year, we'll sort through what I want (probably all of it). :)

There's a to do list and I need to get with it now that's warm in here!

Be safe everyone!

My big excitement for the day is, the screen for my sliding door from my bedroom to deck is back up and works. About 29 years ago we added this room on. Soon after it was complete, husband asked 8 year old son to go get something from the house. As 8 year old boys are prone to doing, he took off at a dead run.... Right through the new screen door, and barely slowed as it came out of frame! It has sat with a bend in it, all this time. Surprisingly the screen never tore as the frame bent to accommodate the 8 year old gate crasher! I told Sean to use it as a pattern for a new one. However, using the genes that somehow both he and Mel we’re both blessed with, he laid the door on the drive and began pounding and working. 30 mi later, I had my sliding screen door back—-finally!
I’m going to make the IP /oven scalloped potatoes in about an hour, adding ham to make a meal. Only cooks a minute under pressure then rests 10 then into casserole and make sauce then bake 20. Son really liked the plain for thanksgiving so asked for same but with leftover ham tonight.
Just heard the gov is telling most of the state to go home and stay home for 3 weeks, including hair salons. Thank goodness for delivery!

Our governor said that we will be in lockdown again within a few days here in southern CA. They are shutting down different regions of CA based on when they get to only 15% capacity left in those area hospitals. We are very close to that here so are probably getting shut down in the next couple days. That will be for at least 3 weeks and then depends on hospital capacity at that point, if we stay or go back to work. Since the fallout from Thanksgiving hasn't hit yet, I am betting it will be longer than that.

We got really busy at work this afternoon as people heard about the looming shutdown. Got some good tips too.

Have tomorrow off so will get to the bottom of my dental insurance situation, and also call my regular doctor to see if I can finally make an appointment to get in to check out my shoulder. Hope the shutdown doesn't throw another wrench into all that.

They are having a golf cart parade here in the park on Dec 18th (with covid restrictions strictly enforced). I am wondering if I should get in on that and decorate my cart or just sit in my driveway that night with a hot drink and lap blanket and watch the parade go by. Decisions, decisions...

We have 4 active wildfires going on in southern CA right now, thanks to the Santa Ana winds the past couple days. One of them is near Hemet where Evie and Sharon live. Hoping they are safe!

Have a good night! :D

Shirl, In the last few years, I gave up on the tree and just put up a wreath--much easier and still festive.

I am in Napa and just got into my campground under the wire. Been following the news here in CA and a little worried because I had planned to spend 6 days here, go to Borrego Springs for a couple of weeks, and then come back. But if I leave, I might not be able to get back in. Going to talk to office tomorrow morning to see if I can just stay max of 28 days.

Actually, the reason I gave up my Christmas tree is that I always used to buy a real one and put it in a tub of water. One year, when my kids were almost grown and home from college for the holiday, one of them offered to take the tree down for. me Except it tipped it over and spilled all the yucky water on my almost-white carpeting. It never would come clean, so I had to rearrange furniture to cover the stain!

I shouldn't go to the nursery without someone to talk me out of plants  came away with lots hopefully I didn't get to many I have 4 containers to plant and hopefully that plant eating creature can't climb... I finally figured out where to hang one of the planters moved one of the wind chimes to a different spot that it fit into and the hanging pot next to the other hanging pot... we will see how they all do... found some starts for sweetpeas hopefully they will like hanging as well as climbing...
again we will see how they do..
didn't sleep well last night not sure why but took a long time to go to sleep then kept waking up and then finally slept well for awhile only to wake up dreaming some stupid somewhat scary dream... came home from shopping and took a nap...
probably won't be able to sleep because of it...
it's was way windy today so didn't get anything done outside... and tomorrow by the time I get up I will just have time to put the chicken enchilada's together in order to get to games at 1:00 We try to be as safe as possible using lots of sanitizer...
if I was smart I wouldn't spend much time on the internet tonight and spend some time cutting up the chicken ect
will see if I am smart or not  in order to make anything I so need to put stuff away so yep I need to get off my butt and do something
I am glad Anita that you are content with your decision it's a big one I'm sure.... I have friends that live in Port Townsend I really need to go visit it's been over 8 years I will have to find my way to your town...
I also need to work on the afghan my sister asked me to come for Christmas I don't think so but perhaps for New Years... if I do I would like to have his afghan finished not sure if it will be but would like to try will have to see if I can come close to it anyway... I do 2 rows a day it's about all my hands are letting me do...
you all have a good day

Miracle of all miracles... I enjoyed working today. And I worked my tail off. I'm not sure what happened, but I think someone talked to my boss. She has a whole new attitude. She had me doing things that I was hired to do! And I made a comment that it was good to see her take a day off and she needs to take more off or she'll burn out really fast. She replied, well that's what I have you for.v I'll get you up to speed on vendors, etc. And she started showing me closing tonight. I've never had such a confusing closing, but it's how their register system works, not her doings. I was definitely scratching my head. I think it'll take a few times for me to get it down. She originally had me off tomorrow then closing the next two nights. But in her new self, I'm going back at 9 am to deal with two vendors. I'm feeling pretty good about the changes and hope it continues.

I have an itty bitty Christmas tree, maybe 4 or 5 inches tall that's on my table. That's it this year.

Barbie and Velda, so far Inyo County is faring better than most of California, but it moved to red, I believe.

Karen, I'm sorry about your mattress. I would definitely look elsewhere as that blow up bed isn't meant for long term by any means. Good luck.

Time to head to bed for my earlier start tomorrow.

Beth, I figured if the big bosses really wanted to keep you, they would have a chat with your manager and tell her to shape up quick and let you do your job! Apparently they did just that! Glad to hear you were much happier today.

I slept on an air bed for many years. I loved it! The good ones can be very comfortable!

I think my intestinal issues are from the new D3/K2 suppliments I started. I seemed to be a little better today, just a little bloated. I guess my system has to get used to them. My manager just started taking them too and has had the same issues.

Judy, if you do go to Borrego Springs, let me know. If I am not working, I will go down for a visit. I have never been there and have wanted to check it out.

Yea, Beth!!!!! Hope things stay good for you. Someday, I will tell you about working on a project at the City of Detroit and a supervisor who never let any of her staff do any difficult things because she was afraid they would take over, and she would lose her job. The result was she worked 10-12 hour days to prevent anyone else learning her job--served her right. Political appointee, no less, from a previous administration. It was quite an experience.

And, Barbie, I think I am going to cancel Borrego Springs. First, too big a chance I would get there and get cancelled because of stupid campers who like to congregate in large groups and spread COVID-19. Second, it is a very long drive and would be better in the spring when stuff is in bloom. And third, I am afraid if I leave here, I might not be able to get back in for Christmas. So, maybe spring??? Will try to talk to fairgrounds office people tomorrow.

Judy, you are wise to reconsider the travel south. The Gov also put out a travel ban. Only essential travel allowed in CA,
Best to be where you don't mi dstaying a while.
Beth, so glad the day worked better for you.
Barb, sorry you are being shutdown again. Itsb ICU capacity that thy are concerned about. One smaller hospital near Anne, has a 39 bed CoVid ward, and it's completely full as of a couple days ago!
Stay safe everyone.

Judy, that is very understandable! Spring will be much prettier with all the wildflowers in bloom (if we get some rain before then!).
