Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Morning All, still dealing with dark o thirty. One of life’s simple pleasures, a heating pad with a moist sponge on your back. :? Going to make a pot of chicken stock from rotisserie chicken and freeze in small batch for chicken soup when needed. My apartment only has windows on one side facing south. Always concerned that odors and stale air are trapped in the other half. Have researched air purifier but seemed like a lot of work and expense keeping up with filters. I usually crack a couple of windows now and then. With the virus floating around have been more concerned. Read an article this morning from an expert ?? that said open windows half way for a couple of hours to exchange inside air. So my plan, when I leave home will turn heat down, throw open windows and balcony door for air exchange. Have a package to pick up at friend’s porch so will try open windows air exchange. Then just take a long ride.

Shirl -

I assume your apartment isn't accessible for theives? Fresh air always seems so wonderful when we're cooped up. How did that work for you? Did you come home to a fresh smelling, clean air home or was it too chilly?

I don't have cross ventilation either and windows in my living area don't even open! I have a very old mobilhome and I guess they thought indoor temps would be just fine with furnace and air conditioner. I'd like a bit of fresh air now and then, tho.

Edie, today will be my first air exchange. I am on the second floor so feel safe leaving balcony door open. This is a three story building so I am well insulated, top, bottom and both sides of apartment. My electric budget is $53 per month so feel a couple hours open to fresh air is doable. Article also said place a fan facing out a window/door to remove stale air. If air vents are open I would think that would work for you.

I wish my windows weren't so hard to open. Last night it was warm in the house and cool outside. I didn't want to turn the air conditioner on so sat in front of a fan for a while. For some reason I don't like to switch the a/c back and forth from heat to air. Probably doesn't make any difference.

Karen, the houses for sale near me seem to be in short supply. Probably because of the hurricanes. I'm not planning on moving but like to look at houses. I learned to draw house plans in art class in high school. I drew the house plans for the house we built and there isn't much I would change about it.

I cooked the ground meat, sausage and onions for the dressing recipe I like, divided it in half and put in the freezer. I haven't decide if I'm going to cook much for Thanksgiving or not. Still haven't heard what my son and his girlfriend are going to do. She is from Baton Rouge and usually goes to her mother's. My son tries to get out of it if he can. I wish I could find turkey thighs like Judy. I have looked at all the stores near me and have never seen them. Our stores sell turkey necks, wings and drumsticks. I don't know what they do with the thighs.

There is a farmer's market this morning in town. If I can get moving I think I will go. Our farmer's markets usually don't have much produce, just crafty type stuff and baked goods.

Good morning all. Today will be another inside day since we got some rain during the night so won’t be doing any yard work. Temps not bad right now but forecasted to go down as the day goes on. Plenty to do inside! I sometimes wait until later in the evening to go to the grocery store and did so last night. Big mistake! Guess Friday night before holiday is not a good idea! Lots of people and shelves were bare of lots of things I was looking for so means another trip at some point. Got the “staples” so not a big deal. Somehow I lost my shopping list somewhere between home and the store. A puzzle but luckily I think I remembered what was on it and then some! Shirl, I found physical therapy helped me with my back problems too. I need to do the exercises and feel it if I get lazy about not doing them. Plus my chiropractor is a great help too. Beats having surgery! You got this! Beth, how was your first day at work?
I suppose I should start getting busy and at least try to get something accomplished today. On days like today I just want to curl up on the couch with a good book but that sure doesn’t get anything done! Hope you all have a good weekend and as always stay safe!

Sharon, I'm exhausted lol It was a long day. My boss over did things and fell flat on her back with an overloaded hand cart. She ignored 3 of us saying to leave that for others. Anyway, she injured her ankle and it took a few hours before she was convinced she had to go sooner rather than later for x-rays. She's more stubborn than me. But it did force her to let me finish checking that vendor in. The best part though, is the person who prepares our employee meals will put dinner in the fridge for me to pick up on my way home. So no cooking. And I discovered they box up a few meals of leftovers for anyone so I grabbed a box of breakfast burritos. I'm about to heat one of them now. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll lose weight, but not cooking is wonderful (my lunch break I'm able to go in and eat, well could breakfast too, but that's not likely to happen lol). We'll see how today goes.

Time for that breakfast, then shower time, walk Ty and head to work.

Good morning!

Hope your back pain eases up a bit, Shirl. Never thought that inactivity could cause something like that. Guess I'd better keep taking Sadie on long walks.

Beth, sounds like they're going to keep you busy & fed. Hopefully your boss will accept that she can't do it all & will let you assist her. You'll be a great right-hand person if she lets you help. By the way, thanks again for recommending BoomersBenefits. I touched base with them on Part D changes. It's nice to have someone who can answer questions about this stuff.

Karen, sounds like you're getting more settled everyday.
Irmi, I love your casita. Can't wait to see the inside once you have it done.
Martha, I'm trying different gate arrangements to contain this little guy. I'm amazed how they just let him roam everywhere at home. I'm just a more paranoid & my kitchen can't be baby-proofed as well as theirs can. Not sure what I'll do with the Christmas tree.

Have everything I need for Thanksgiving dinner. Glad I got out early in the week & super early in the mornings. Going to make it all at son's home - no risk there since I'm there everyday anyway. Kids are up here from San Diego for the week - they only go out to the grocery store & only rarely for that so I think we're all safe.

Enjoying my 'days off' without the litle ones -- getting a few things done in the house but mostly not doing much of anything.
Stay safe out there,

Catherine, walking is excellent exercise but my weakness was my upper body. Imagine lifting and lowering a walking stick as you walk. The muscle from that movement goes to your back between your shoulder blades. I am just starting gentle strength training with bands for my upper body.

Just back from picking up my package of two pair of pjs. I might be hiding from the virus but I will look cute. Walked twice around the parking lot and my legs are like limp noodles. The apartment smells wonderful.

Shirl, I recommend a PAIR of light walking sticks, either aluminum or carbon fiber. I like Leki and Black Rock brands. Watch a couple videos on correct forem. They stabilize you and gently strengthen if you use consistently. I used mine in Oregon last year hiking, and they made a big difference in stability and how my back felt after.
It's another sunny chill fall day. I'm puttering decluttering and doing laundry, between watching videos on using my rebounder and my total gym.
Beth that sounds like a good place to work, once you get the boss trained! :D

Martha, to find turkey thighs, you need a grocery store that has a meat counter. Walmart or Costco won't have them. Then ask the guy at the counter. This time I found them next to the chickens in the regular counter, but I have also found them in the meat counter where they cut things up. Usually, I do have to ask someone to find the thighs. When I find them, i will get several packages and freeze some.

Went out to the bakery in Tehachapi where I am camped for a few days. Stocked up on almond croissants and got a loaf of bread. Also, got a tank full of propane so I can be warm tonight. Last night was OK, but I had two electric heaters going. Low last night was 40 but going to be 37 tonight and 33 tonight and then below freezing next few nights. But it is sunny today, and I can watch the gliders take off. Unfortunately, the wind is blowing the wrong way, so they are taking off at the other end of the runway, but I can watch them being towed in the air and as they land right next to my campsite! This is a great campground, even though sites are dirt, but it is spread out along the runway of a glider airport, and out of town enough that you have no noise from the highway or anything, other than the tow plane. Also has a good laundromat right across from my site, so I can get some things washed.

Judy, I just realized you are staying where we have stayed in past. Have you checked to see if RailRoad Depit museum is open? Great place to visit.

I made it to the farmers market and it was about what I said it would be. I don't know who buys some of the stuff they are trying to sell. The only thing I might have been interested in was a loaf of sourdough bread but I'm not paying $8 for a small loaf of bread.

The guy that bailed the hay piled up a bunch of sheet metal and trash that blew in from the last hurricane. My son and I went and loaded it on the trailer and added it to the piles we have going on here.

Catherine, my son was born in November and for his second Christmas I put the fence around the Christmas Tree. lol He started walking at 9 months and climbing soon after that. Between him and the cats they would have destroyed the tree. I use to have a picture of one of the cats laying on the branches half the way up the Christmas Tree. Now all I have is a 4 foot tree. If I drag it out it doesn't get put up until about March. After Christmas I decorate it for Mardi Gras. I don't know where my decorations are or if they survived.

The neighbors adopted someone's Great Perinase dog. I don't think he's full blooded but is bigger than a German Shepard. It's a young dog and very friendly. This morning I saw one of the cats chase him out of the yard. I have some cats that think they are bad. I hope they don't ever meet a bad dog.

for some reason I actually was up before the alarm went off...that is so unusual for me.
I like that training the new boss... or whatever the statement was... perhaps she has had to do it all herself for so long
she can't accept that she won't have to... hope you enjoy your job Beth...
Velda I think I would like to get some walking sticks... but at the same time need to force myself to start going out and doing something. It's like all the lotion in the world won't help cure dry skin if one doesn't apply it...
went to walmart no tp or paper towels... don't understand it I am not out but thought I ought to get some so if the shelves are bare in the future I had some oops too late :o spent more time there that I expected too... and more money... but that is the way it is... did get a radio... yea now when I don't have the use of electricity will have a radio to use.. one day need to get the tv running...
like the way I have the trailer now can see the feeders from the chairs... inside not sure as the rear is still in travel mode...but since I sit on the couch more it doesn't matter that much however would like to get some stuff done before I go to my sister's ...
as to the expense of the valve... not cheap but the lowest I've spent in the last couple of months... it's been an expensive couple of months rear breaks power steering and valve replacement... thankfully two of my kids helped with the cost on the power steering... another was going to but her and her husband had the virus so off work so she asked if I was ok if not she still would help... I'm ok just not liking the looks of the checkbook :( it will heal hopefully
got home and called a friend back she returned my call while I was driving ... he husband is now in hospice he doesn't think he will make it to his next birthday which is in Dec. I feel so bad for her... her daughter is with her right now which is a big help...
something I was going to mention but it's sure flown away..
you all take care

Velda, I believe the railroad museum is closed. I have been here several times over the years because it is a handy stop while going from the Las Vegas area and Arizona to Napa. I'll check later in the week.

I had reservations two weeks in January for Hidden View Campsite at Hennessy Lake near Raymond, but just got news that COE campgrounds in California are closing. I am going to have to head to Valley of Fire instead and then to Quartzite, if it is on. My cousin is working there and he says owners are planning on opening it, but Arizona closed a smaller rock show and some other events, so he is doubtful it will really happen.

I have lots of windows in my place so I can get some decent air flow in here. The two larger windows in the living room are old and I can only open them about 6 inches up but it is better than nothing. With those open and the slider to the porch open, it gets some cross breeze. I get a nice cross breeze in the bedroom tho with the 2 windows in there (that luckily, open fully). I have one window in the kitchen and one in the bathroom so with those open, they pull in some fresh air too. It hasn't been breezy here lately tho, even at night. With wind here, it seems to be all or nothing.

Work was a little slow today. I had some crabby male customers. Yesterday was very busy. We will be expanding our hours starting next week, close to our original hours. I like that better because we wiil go back to 6 hour shifts with 3 people on, instead of two of us on 8 hour shifts. I can do 6 hours much easier than 8.

I have tomorrow off. I have 2 or 3 haircuts to do and also laundry. Gotta work on the putters league spreadsheet too.

Have a good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
