Wisconsin and the UP

Okay ladies- who knows Wisconsin? I know Beth is from there but didn't RV there. I'm planning a trip there the first two weeks of July and here are my thoughts per research. Richard Bong (wonder who that was?) state park, Devil's Lake State park. Baraboo to see circus museum. Eau Claire to see Trudy. North to Apostle Island national park. drive along lake Superior across UP to Marquette MI, see the locks as Sault St Marie. Drive down western coast of MI with stops in Traverse City and Grand Haven where there are also state parks. I know the Wisconsin Dell area is very popular but I'm getting cranky in my old age and loud crowds of screaming kids annoy me. It also seems like it would be quite congested for my 29' MH. Input please from all who know the terrain. Becasuse you know my plans are "absolutely firm unless I change my mind". lol :D

"House on the Rock"...I think it is on the western side of WI and sits out in the woods..high up built on a high rocky area. Neat house and had the buildings down at the base house a wonderful large collection of moterized musical displays. Don't know how to explain it but good eye candy to look at and wonder "who made all this stuff?" The carousel is huge and not one of the animals on it is a horse! It was pricey when I went back the last time 25 years ago!!!! Plan to spend some major time wandering through the house and the displays if you go.

The Dells are beautiful water and rocks (we traveled around in one of the Ducks ) but you would have to trade off all the touristy stuff. I think I would look at nature that didn't come with quite so many people/kids...but that is me. And it has been 30 years....

House on the Rock is a must see. Very fascinating! The Dells and the Duck ride is fun but I haven't been there for many years so I'm sure it's even more touristy now. Do buy any fudge or cheese!! That state has the best of both! The circus museum in Baraboo was a fun stop, too.

Sault Ste Marie is well worth seeing. I was there 2 1/2 weeks ago. The locks and parklands along the water are impressive but many of the downtown roads are under construction. I stayed at the local KOA...not cheap but good services and immaculate. It is run by a Danish (?) or maybe Dutch couple and even has a doggy park for offleash :) .

Have fun!! That bridge is also amazing to drive over....gorgeous view of both countries!

I haven't been to Sioux St. Marie since the 60s----it's good to know there is a nice KOA there, as, if I get free from here, I will head for the west coast via Canada frm here until the cross-over at that bridge. Much shorter than going around the Great Lakes for me. Back in the days of the 60s I don't remember any official campsites.

Happy travels!
