Dark Friday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Dark Friday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Fri Oct 30, 2020 7:52 am

Good Morning. Least I think it’s morning  Seems like it takes forever for daylight to get here these days. Our mornings have been cloudy, so takes that much longer. I’m a morning person and like to get moving and then relax later in the afternoon. Actually, the whole month of October has been cloudy, damp and dreary. I can count on my fingers, how many days we have had sun all day I think. Weather forecasters say one thing, Mother Nature says I’m doing it my way. But the Great Lakes influence our weather here. Cooler air from the north makes for lake effect clouds, rain and snow showers. That time of year.

But I have gotten things done outside and love the cooler weather for that. Finally got the front sub entrance cleaned of leaves and a bumper crop of acorns. Took almost 4 hours thanks to the crazy acorns. Did the walking path between the two roads here and my yard yesterday. We started having snow showers just as I finished. So the dogs and I went walking in the snow showers. Today I’m hoping to finish up a few things in the yard but first need to get a pee sample from Piper to take to the vet. We are trying to get a bladder infection cleared up. But we all know our furry kids don’t always cooperate

Gee Barbie, you are really going at it, cleaning up your place. I’ll be into that later this winter. Took a bag of stuff up to Salvation Army store the other day and have some things I wil just put in a Free box by my drive in the spring. Judy, I know what you mean about the political calls. I just ignore them and delete them off my phone. There was a really informative article about fraud in the AARP Bulletin awhile ago, and it told of how the people who do robocalls operate, get their information etc., Was very Interesting. One thing it stressed is, do not answer calls from numbers you don’t recognize and also do not open emails you don’t recognize. They can be used to plant malware in your computer. If in doubt, call the company or your bank etc., if you aren’t sure it’s valid. Better to be safe than sorry. I too will be glad when the elections are over.

Velda, after all that Messing around trying to solve your electrical issue, a GCFI was the problem? Who knew. Shelia, beautiful afghans. O’Sharon, sounds like you are having my weather now. I would send Yo some sun, but as I said, none here either.

Guess I had better get my day moving here. Need to wash my hair and then take the dogs for that walk and hope for some success, so I can be off to the vet  Really would like to get that out of my way this morning. Have a nice day everyone.

Sunshine for us today and should be low 70's. I am up early this morning. I am heading up to my house to take some stuff up there and see my new carpeting, oh yes and pay the rest of my bill ha ha I wont leave until around 9 as I dont like driving over the mountains in the dark. Clock change tomorrow night...yuck. I sure do like it lighter later but since I have no control over the powers that be (even tho we voted not to change last year) not sure why we even voted. Taking my laundry and going to try out the washer and dryer and make sure they work or if I need to buy new ones right now. Bought shelf paper so I can start cleaning out the cupboards but not sure whether I will do that or not today. Have to check a couple of places on my vinyl windows so have some running around to do.

My old next door neighbor also moved into this same park so I will be checking out his place today also. He is in the same boat as I am regarding furniture. Such a long wait 4-12weeks. Hard for them to get supplies I guess. I do need to go to Walmart up there and get some cleaning supplies. Once everything is clean, furniture is delivered then I get to do the fun thing about replacing all my other needs. Thanks to so many of you being so generous I am sure I will get to go shopping for lots of fun stuff. So far I have replaced my Air Fryer, Instant Pot, and coffeemaker LOL using them here in my hotel room and will move them up to the house when I move in.

Having another cup of coffee, shower, and then hit the road.

Good morning Sue, Karen and Everybody else from snowy CT. That’s right it’s snowing in Hartford! The leaves are still on the trees and heavy snow could result in another disaster like a few years ago when my neighbor’s tree took down my old sunroom!

What a nice surprise to find a personal thank you card amongst all the junk mail and bills...

This week I went to the dentist and had a mammogram; two more body parts attended to.
Enjoy today Peggy

I can start complaining about the cold. lol It got down to 52 last night and 71 in the house. I never did turn the heat on. It is overcast this morning so not warming up much.

Karen, I know you are excited to be moving in. It's all the little things you don't think about until you go to use one and you don't have it. Wish I was closer, I could give you some things from when we cleaned out my mother-in-law's house and my son's trailer.

Peggy, glad you got your body parts attended to. lol I was having pain in a tooth last week that I have had problems with for several years. My dentist wanted to send me for a root canal but I declined. I thought for sure that was next but the pain went away. My doctor stopped calling me for yearly appointments when I went on medicare. I haven't been to a doctor in several years. I came close to calling one when I got sick after the last campout. I don't know if I ate something bad but whatever happened made me sick for a few days.

The shop called and my push mower is fixed. I am waiting on my son to call or I would go get it. My son wants me to bring some fence tools and go help him put up some wire fencing. Their neighbor's fence is falling apart and he is worried their dog will get out. I don't know why I wait around on him, it could be the middle of the afternoon before he calls.

The sun just came out so maybe it will warm up some.

We also have sun today!!! First time in seems like forever. The clouds do not help with my mood which needs all the help it can get these days. Sue I hope your walk is successful and Piper gets a good report. Karen glad to hear you are beginning to get your new home a bit organized and that you will have a familiar face in the same park. Peggy I hope you don't get any more snow while the are still leaves on the trees!!
My husband brought in the mail this morning and excitedly told me I had two hand address cards that were real and not from someone selling hearing aids! :) Yes !! a Halloween card and a personal thank you card!
Barbie I hope you get your insurance figured out sounds like a real mess having to change so often.

I was also pleasantly surprised by that yesterday! Can't remember the last time I got a thank-you card. Even for wedding and shower gifts, no one seems to do that anymore.

Just laying in bed waiting to get ready for my eye appointment. Hope it goes well. Haven't had my eyes examined for several years. I know my prescription is way off now. I might try bifocals and see how that goes. I hate having to always take my glasses off to see something up close, but then I need to put on reading glasses, and then put on my regular glasses to see far away again.

I think we are gonna get back up into the 90's today and over the weekend. I also hate that it gets dark so early now and after tomorrow, will be even earlier. We also voted to end that a couple years ago but it hasn't changed yet. Something about congress having to approve it...

Hope I get some energy and motivation back today so I can get some more done around here this afternoon! Back to work tomorrow for 4 days before having 4 days off late next week.

Have a good day! :D

I'm trying to work up energy. So easy to put things off. Karen, so nice that you'll have a neighbor near. And I like the priorities of what you already have. I wouldn't need the coffee maker, but have few friends who agree with me lol

I am headed to Safeway today and I'll get my flu shot while there. Doing pickup all summer saved me a lot of money. Things just jump in my cart on their own when shopping in store. Neither the Safeway nor the Walmart in Benson have pickup services.

Oh, Peggy, I hope no damages. And Martha, I like the cool mornings, but they are much cooler here in the desert before warming up. So I sleep in later. Works for me.

Another sunny day here in northern California. Might reach 80, but was in 40's overnight. After I catch up here, I need to go dice onion and peppers and peel garlic, so I can get my big pot of chili going for tomorrow. Want it to slow cook. I have Curves lat 5:30 pm! . I prefer morning Curves, but with this restricted time, only 8 at a time vs 22 we sometimes have. So I take what they can fit me into time wise.
Karen, have fun decorating your new home. A fire is an extreme, traumatic way to declutter, but shopping for only what you need is therapy I would think. Sue, your walk in he woods sounds wonderful. Most leaves here are still green in the trees.
Wishing everyone a fun safe Halloween weekend and enoy the blue moon.

Barbie, I went to trifocals when I was working. I would have to take my glasses off to talk someone if they came in my office. I needed to see up close to read and farther out to see the computer. My eye doctor said some people couldn't get use to them but I never had a problem. Having trifocals makes them cost more. Mine also get dark outside and I like that. I never could get along with sun glasses.

After yesterday's all day of rain, the sun looks mighty good out there. The dogs are out on the deck sitting among the leaves and I think someone has found another reason to dig a hole in the yard. There are plenty of moles but they seem to go through spells of not bothering to dig, to excavating to China. Lark and Audrey are both enjoying getting to go back to a training class again. They attend separate days and times. Jane just enjoys being Jane. She gets to practice her show "stacks" on the grooming table and now on the floor. I noticed at the last show that she would't hold still as well when I tried to stack her on the floor/ground in the line up. I reflected that I had not actually trained her to stack and stay while on the ground. Can't blame a girl for not doing something she wasn't trained to do. She is looking much better now. My getting up and down from the hard kitchen floor while practicing however isn't going so well.

I have been researching solar for the Roadtrek. I have found some ideas but can't remember how many watts, Nan and I bought for our RV from Tri AM in Florida those years ago. I think I see making a phone call in my future. Sadly I also don't remember the size of the inverted. I do know that all the plugs were connected to the system as long as I didn't try to use them all at once and I enjoyed having the ability to boondock quietly. There are no experienced solar installers here in Ohio that I have located. I don't trust the RV dealerships around here at all. So, so far it is between the RV mechanic that replaced the propane tank. He does have Roadtrek experience or my regular mechanic who though they haven't done a lot of solar, is smart and fair and knows how to look things up. I think back to the individuals that do this themselves after watching U-tube videos and know that I trust him to do as well. He at least has a lot of mechanical experience and knows electronics and batteries, etc. Driving to Florida to Tri Am is a possibility but they really aren't experts either. ANd then there is that driving to Q but I don't know if I am readdy to face the drive across west Texas. I don't think I would make it past San Antonio and Nikki's. When I was in Q two years ago and they went over my system and up graded my batteries, they mentioned that the wiring for the panels should have been heavier. There bit of wisdom was to use the wire that would serve the maximum number of panels or watts that might fit, even if you aren't adding them at the time, because you will then have the ability to safely add panels in the future without the cost of rewiring.....

About thank you notes, my daughter-in-law knows how to write them and has had the boys send notes from time to time. Two weeks ago a friend from Indianapolis sent me a "congratulations" note through the mail after Jane winning her second major. The fact that Susan was at the show with us at the time and that one of the girls Jane placed ahead of was Susan's...... so the art of snail mail is not completely lost or surrendered to Facebook....It also reflects some on why I enjoy showing English Cockers and the "village" of friends that support one another in this activity.

Enough about me..... the sun is shining and the rest of the day awaits exploring.

At 12 min to 12, Curves called with a cancellation if I wanted to get over there by 12! So I quick got my Halloween leggings, shirt, and socks on (and shoes) and jumped in the car and got there just at 12. So 3rd workout done for the week and I have the rest of the day to do stuff. Yay.
I had bifocals probably in my 40's as I had both severe near sighted ness and bad astigmatism. Then a few years later went to Trifocals. What made the huge difference for me was getting the blended type trifocals, so there wasn't tne abrupt transition. I'm one who easily went to the multifocal. I never tripped or misjudged walking surfaces. That was why, when it came to cataracts, I was positive I would adapt well to the multifocal IOL (implants). And I have. I love my PanOptix, and was not surprised when this Dr said my main issue was scar tissue distorting my vision, and giving a incorrect read on the chosen RX for my PanOptix, because I often found myself turning my head and using lots of drops trying to see around what often seemed like a smudge in front of my vision. That said, it's fixable, just needs tincture of time and the expertise of Dr Sierra. From being essentially legally blind if not wearing glasses to 20/30 is wonderful, though I look forward to all distortion being gone in both corneas.
It's 79 right now, probably headed to 82 or so. A very nice day.
Have a good rest of your day.

The eye exam went well. I have an astigmatism in one eye which I already knew about. Everything checked out OK other than the beginnings of cateracs in both eyes but he said it isn't anything to worry about for now. I got a prescription for either bifocals or for single vision glasses and prescription readers. I am not sure I can deal with bifocals. I tried them once many years ago and could hardly walk with them. They are expensive so am not sure it is worth it. I told him I have been using reading glasses from the store. He said my eyes are so different from each other that those generic ones are worthless and probably not doing my eyes any favors. I do have to go back in 2 weeks for the dilating pupils test.

Did some shopping around WM afterward. It was crazy busy and there weren't nearly enough checkouts open. There were at least 15 people waiting in each line!

Now watching Gunsmoke and then will start on a few things I need to get done here that I didn't do yesterday.

Most of the rest of you are doing better than me because I thought it was THURSDAY!! I am adjusting to losing a day.

I had my absentee ballot forwarded and just got my mail today, but I sent it back while I was at the post office. Notice that I did not say I filled it out. A few days ago, I was on a three-way text conversation with both of my kids. I was busy riding my bike so only half paying attention. Napa son had received my ballot and was going through it. He asked who I wanted to vote for, and I told him, then kept riding. Ohio son typed in that that was good, because if I did not vote for the right person, they would put me in a home. So, I periodically checked the conversation, but pretty soon I noticed that Ohio son sent Napa son a list of the judges and other state things. And they were discussing some other things on the ballot. Finally, I stopped and realized where the conversation had gone. Then it hit me that they were filling out my ballot for me!!!!! Anyway, they checked the boxes, as I had told them and would have done anyway, but it was really funny, and they were having a good time!

I did check it before I sent it in, by the way. Anyway, I am enjoying the warm weather after freezing at Grand Canyon.

Note: I once attended a training course on direct mail marketing, where I learned a lot about how your name gets on lists. See my new posting in the General area in a few minutes.

Thursday morning I pulled out at 10:40 with the intent to get to a KOA in Cedar City Ut... get there and they are full except for some back in's which I don't do... there was another campground in town but thought they would be full gave me the phone number but rush hour traffic so turned right got off at a rest area and called another campground it was full... I have a really hard time finding campgrounds in St. George area a year ago last spring ended up driving from Q to Cedar City... spent a lot of time trying to find campgrounds in St George :o so decided to call a pet friendly motel drove by it couldn't see how I could get my 5th wheel in and out let a lone park it looked at other motels same story... ended up back on 15 headed to Vegas then remembered an area that friends told me that they had boondocked in that a lot of people do and I should... well I pulled off there and spent the night...didn't put out the slides although I guess I could have just hung out in the bedroom..
Shadow had me a bit concerned would take him out and he would refuse to do anything drink or pee or anything so got to where we spent the night and I sat on steps and put him on his leash and lead so he could move around a bit still didn't pee knocked over water we were out there a long time finally went inside and I went up to the bedroom to do something came down and he had peed on the blanket I'd pulled out for him grrr. but he did start to drink and did eat what I put out for him... I put him up on my bed so as I figured the downstairs would have been over whelming to him... actually turned the light out about 11 sometime Shadow was moving about so I took him out and success... left about whatever time made it through the gorge no construction first time in I don't know how many years there has been no construction!!!! then over that ramp takes you from I15 to 95/515 it scares me spitless!!! :o :o by the time I am over it I am just shaking... but the road near Lake Mead and into Henderson it narrow and hard as well plus getting into Henderson and finding my way there... but we made it here in Needles for a few days leaving Monday... have laundry to do dump tanks shower there is a swimming pool that looks inviting not as level as I would like but didn't have the right sizes to make it work ... hopefully will be more successful dumping the tanks here at least my hose reaches...
want a chuckle??? when I was in Ogden went to hook up to city water and the hoses leak so finally just used the tank water... but got a new hose and proceeded to hook it up here it leaked so as this was a new hose their problem right??? it didn't have the rubber gasket looked in the truck looked on the ground but he found one hanging around and fixed it no leak  makes one wonder if that was the problem with the old hose... did bring them as I am hoping someone can make them to work on the barrel for when I fill the tank from it... took an hour nap when I got here again Shadow didn't pee right off and he hadn't on the way didn't want to get out of the truck although he did drink ... and we when I tried to take him out was I thought only an hour or so from our destination... then road construction hit... one of those weird ones where you are held up forever for what???? who knows!!!
going to sleep in dump tanks take a shower then laundry... hope it all gets done... cooling off a bit 73 need to close door
you all have a good night

Barbie -

I had the same problem of eyes needing different strengths for reading glasses - drastic differences after first cataract surgery. For years I have bought 2 identical Dollar Tree glasses in the two strengths I needed, then when I got home my son popped out one lens from each and made my custom pair of reading glasses. Long, long ago our small town eye doctor told me drug store glasses were just as accurate for reading as expensive ones bought from the vision centers. I have taken that info one step further and embraced dollar ones! I have had cataract surgery in both eyes and my doctor is a specialist. Seems like the dollar glasses haven't harmed my eyes a bit and I've been doing it for years and years. I only do this for reading glasses that aren't worn constantly unlike prescription ones for distance, etc.
