Soaking Wet Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Soaking Wet Friday

Postby Colliemom » Fri Oct 23, 2020 7:48 am

Good morning from the soggy 45th. It’s raining, it’s pouring as the song goes. Started yesterday around 3 p.m. and so far we have had a bit over 4 inches and counting. They say we might see another inch today before the cold front sweeps through, turning it into a rain/snow or snow. Could have a light accumulation by tomorrow morning. Fall in Michigan. But this is a bit excessive. We are under a Flood Warning as the streams and rivers are running high.

I’m glad I was able to make a sweep of my entire yard yesterday and clear what leaves that were down, out of here. I’ve been clearing leaves for at least two weeks as thry come down. Don’t like to let them pile up as they get too hard to blow off. Made a couple passes over my gutters with the new attachment I got for my leaf blower that allows me to do it from the ground. Also did some repair work on some fence boards over on my vacant lot as well. They were put up by the original owners ross a pipeline easement on the property, to keep snowmobiles etc. off and are starting to show their wear after 25 years.

O’Sharon, my energy comes from being pushed by the weather  This time of year I know the window for fall chores and winter prep is closing, so gotta get with it. All set except for what leaves remain to come down from a couple trees which are coming down with this rain. Now I can just putter outside if I want, as I love working outside this time of year. I always find something to do to keep me out besides walking the dogs.

Tina, congrats on the success you are having with Jane. Beth, isn’t it always the way it goes when you order something that doesn’t come and then it shows up after you make changes and reorder  Shelia, safe travels to AZ. Barbie, glad your power is back. I too am waiting to hear if they found Velda’s problem unless I missed it somewhere. Irmi, sorry about the family situation, hang in there.

Going to end this before I have a novel here. Everyone stay safe and have a nice day.

Good morning. It is a wee bit chilly here this morning 35° but will warm up to 69° but sunshine will be present so not too bad. Went out to lunch yesterday with a couple of friends. We went to Olive Garden and had a good visit. After lunch my friend and I went to the Mall to find a Birthday present for her daughter. She ended up with some very pretty jewelry for her. She kept wanting to buy me something LOL I did buy a nice 3/4 length down coat for winter. Was a bit more money than I wanted to spend but it was so warm and fit me well that I bit the bullet and it came home with me.

I am waiting to find out when the carpet installers will be up at the house. I have some things to take up but not too much yet. I wanted to wait until I was up there to get the bedding and towels etc. You know it is funny because I go to get something (like nail file, tweezers, etc) and I dont have any. So on my list it goes. Those little things add up for sure. Dont know when the furniture will come but I just have to be patient. I will need to add lamps, end tables, some pictures etc, but the major stuff is bought and paid for.

Need to go to the eye doc again this morning for the shot in my other eye, It is only a few blocks from here so only takes me 10 minutes at the most to get there. Then I am free until the middle of November. I have been invited up to Laura's Moms for Thanksgiving. So am planning on going up there for a few days.

I opened up my bedroom windows last night. No breeze but still could feel the cool air. Now there is a little breeze and that feels good. Will be the last day in the 90's today for awhile (hopefully for a long while!). By Monday it will barely hit 70 for a high with a low in the mid 40's. Such a drastic change, but I am fine with that!

Lots to do today to finish my list of things to do. I work for the next 4 days and then have 4 days off. Then I will do outside stuff when it is cool out.

Sue, you need to share your secret for all your energy and motivation! If I had even a smidgen of that, I would be a lot more productive around here! (That word "smidgen" brings back memories of my cousin's cafe in northern MN. On the menu was "a smidgen of hashbrowns", which was actually a fullsized plate of hashbrowns!  Typical small town cafe!)

Lola seems a little under the weather the past couple days. Nothing specific, just less active and not grooming herself as much again. But then, she is 17 years old. I have times like that too. Will just keep an eye on her.

Have a good day! :D

I am at trailer village in Grand Canyon, just relaxing and looking at the female elk that wander through. Shuttles are running along the rim in both directions, but none through the village, so tomorrow I will get my bike out and go for a ride. Highs will be in the low 70s next three days with lows in upper 30s, but there is snow predicted on Monday, with high of 44 and low of 21. Ditto for Tuesday, except a bit warmer, and then I am heading west to Willow Beach Marina, east of Las Vegas where it will be warmer. And by Nov 12, I will be near Joshua Tree, Barbie, so might try to stop by and see your place. Slowly working my way to southern and then northern California.

Had a weird experience driving here yesterday. I was driving about 55 MPH on a two-lane road heading to GC. It was pretty windy (hitting me from the side), and there were lots of cars going both directions. At one point, a big gust of wind hit me from the left, enough to make the motorhome rock slightly. Then I heard a whistle and a pop--not a bang, but definitely a fairly loud pop. So, I quickly find a place to pull over, convinced I had a blowout. I had turned my tire minder off because the battery was getting low, so I quickly turned it back on, got out and inspected all my tires. Everything looked fine. Ditto for slides, awnings, hatch covers, etc. Got back in driver's seat and tire minder was cycling through each of the tires. They were fine also.

I was really shaken by this point, but also very puzzled. Got back in and drove about 45 MPH for the next 20 miles until I got to GC. I thoroughly checked inside when I got here, and only thing unusual was that bathroom vent fan was slightly open. The only thing I can think of is that the wind gust must have hit one of my windows and pushed air through it somehow to pop the vent open. As you all know, all of these windows have cracks in the middle between the two sets of panes, and even if they were locked, maybe they flexed???

Finally a day not needing ac or heat. There's a lovely breeze coming through the open windows. I know we'll have a couple day cool down early next week (not nearly as good as you'll see at the Grand Canyon, Judy) and I'll need a sweatshirt, but I'll work, hopefully, on the landscaping on those couple days.

My rug that turned up after being refunded is working out, I believe. It'll need to work out all the folds, hopefully before I return in the spring lol. The one that comes Monday I'll return.

Judy, I have vent covers and still one of the regular covers has a crack in it that I'm sure we caused by wind coming under the vent cover, so your thoughts make sense to me.

Karen, you deserve to treat yourself!

Sue, you need to share that rain with those of us in the west. My sister says they got more than 3 inches of rain yesterday in Wisconsin.

I just went through my files and am throwing out all my older tax papers. And a bunch of other things. I purchased picture hangers and am deciding where to put as many of the pictures I brought from my sister as I can. My little casita will look like a mismatched gallery lol... They weren't all ever intended to be in one room, but I love them and I'm looking forward to having them on the walls... However I can fit them. Karen, if you were closer I'd have you come look to see if anything would work for you.

I have three vents on top of my rig. Originally, they just had those thin covers, but if I were driving and put my window down for some reason, the wind would come in and pop open a couple of the vent covers. Then they would start flapping and driving me crazy. So one birthday, I asked my kids for Camping World gift certificates and had the MaxxAir covers put on top of the old ones. That way, I figured, the flapping would be eliminated, and I would end up with two layers of screening on each vent. So far, it has worked out very well.

Two things I would add right away if I were to ever purchase another RV--the extra vent covers and my MCD double shades. The last were really expensive because I did not want to install them myself, but they are still in perfect shape three years later, whereas the old junky ones started to disintegrate and have the cords break within a few months. And I love having the black screens for daytime--can see through them, yet they keep the sun out.

Oh, and I think I would also add a tire minder immediately on a new rig. It has reduced my anxiety about blowouts.

Oh Beth I am sure you have some lovely pictures. Doesnt matter how many you have or what they are if YOU are enjoying them is what counts. Judy I love my MCD blinds and yes they were expensive but oh so worth every penny. I have had the Maxx vents and tire pressure monitoring system ever since I bought my rig. Best way I could check my tire pressure ever. Unfortunately it went in the fire. So did my fancy GPS.........oh well just cant mourn forever LOL

Had some errands to run today and stopped at Costco............bought a few necessary items LOL big mistake.

Good news today is that they are installing my carpeting on MONDAY..........wahoo this is very exciting to me. Then I can start moving my tubs up there and getting some cleaning done and shelves relined. While I wait for my furniture LOL

Karen, glad things are falling into place for you. It will be fun to furnish and decorate it all brand new the way you want it.

I didn't get thru my list but I did fill out my ballot (lots of new propositions which I had to research, as the descriptions were confusing on the ballot). Got that brought to the City Hall and put in their indoor ballot box.

My cart wasn't charged up at all this morning but then I saw the extension cord was unplugged from the shed for some reason, so I plugged it in and am trying again.

After painting the teal color on the primer on my sample spot, I waited most of the day for it to dry. I removed the tape and picked at the edge of the paint and it started to peel off, with the primer. I am not sure what I need to do now to get that paint to stick to the trim. I can't sand it since it is very textured (like wood grain) and I would only be sanding off the higher areas. I will check it again tomorrow in case I didn't let it dry long enough today.

My friends in MN said they got 6 inches of snow the other day! We are supposed to get some Santa Anna winds coming in this weekend. Am hoping we get at least a little wind so I can get a nice breeze over me while I am sleeping.

Back to work tomorrow...

good news and bad news for me today... the leak isn't oil good news!!! it was the power steering fluid and was told that I could just keep adding fluid to it as needed and perhaps if I wasn't towing I would have given that consideration.... but don't want to try and tow up a hill and have it be too low... so bit the bullet and having them put in the part that is needed... looking to see who to rob to pay for it... and the truck will be in shop till Monday as they didn't get it pulled out in time took longer than they expected was what I was told hmmm sometimes I think I get put to the bottom of the list cause I'm family??? oh well have family that can take me about I guess.
I was looking forward to not being stressed oh well... and there is that cataract sugary that I assume that I will need to pay some on... hoping to get the supplemental insurance soon...
So a laid back day did finish going through magazines so have two bags to take down to my friend's or have my dd do it if she comes up... we will see...
and emptied up my sinks so I could do dishes ect... need to fine an open post office tomorrow and send my ballet.
it is cold today and suppose to be for days...looking forward though when I get to Q it's will be nice and warm
trying to decide what to do my sister got her flooring to have put down... but now she needs things moved... she hasn't asked if I could help although I am sure from the past it was what she would like... but because Kerry won't be there I will be in the desert by myself pretty much ... not sure I want to leave the 5th wheel with no one around... so I thought if the price for a week it's too bad I might leave it at Needles for a week depending upon if there would be some one around to un hook me... some things I can't reach... usually not a problem but can see in this case it could be... then I got to thinking she might not want me to come due to the Virus as I will have been in 4 states by that time be it one that is hers...
why not stop in Vegas? because as I remember the campground that we went to it meant traveling on streets and the sites were very close together... and I don't feel that I am good enough to pull into one of them .... so go with what I know Needles is at most 100 miles from my sister oh maybe a bit further but not much and I can get into the sites
I have to laugh my son in law put some wood in the truck for me to use to level up the site if needed then he took the longest one and put it between two propane tanks so they wouldn't hit each other and really bungie corded them together.... I might need to go get me a piece of wood for that purpose.... just not sure of the size I would need
oh well will decide by time to leave...
you all have a nice day
had to laugh the day I stopped here in the row I am in which is 10 sites 8 were 5th wheels of various brands... one a Montana with 5 slides... :o

Sheila, you are running out of time to mail your ballot. Can you find an official ballot box in that area to drop it off at instead? The mail is really slow right now all over.

Another do nothing day. About 5:30 the power went off and on about 5 times and then stayed off for 2 hours. It was a storm coming through with a lot of lightening and rain. I didn't go check the rain gauge but there is water standing in the yard. I was about bored enough that I was thinking about going to the motorhome and starting the generator and the light came on. Some how I have managed to turn the weather alerts on my phone off. I was trying to get the radar and my phone turned off and wouldn't come on. I'm glad I have my tablet for when nothing else will work.

I was getting a call every morning from a car warrantee. It finally aggravated me enough that I found the manual for my phone on line and learned how to block that number. That will probably work for a few days until they start using another number. I need to look and find out how to turn the weather alerts back on. I have a weather radio but that thing is so aggravating. I don't need to know, at 3:00 in the morning, about a marine warning.
