Cool Down Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Cool Down Thursday

Postby Colliemom » Thu Sep 17, 2020 7:45 am

Morning everyone. Other than dealing with smoke issues, Hurricanes and whatever, I’m glad to see you are all doing well. The smoke from the wildfires finally made it to MI This week. Couldn’t smell it, but there was enough in the upper atmosphere to cause red sunrises, sunsets and muted sunshine. Today however, thanks to the cold front which blew in yesterday, we have sunshine and clear blue skies. It’s going to be cool though, highs in upper 50’s and freeze warnings out for tonight. It’s time for frost etc.

Been a busy 2 and a half days here as I have been getting a head start on my fall chores, plus mowing and trimming my yard. That should be the final trimming with the weed whipper for this year. Also cleared out the flowerbeds and put my summer decorations etc., away. Brought a couple of little statues in to paint later this winter. Also mowed and trimmed our HOA entrance area and cleaned up along g the pathway between the two areas of our sub here. So all’s done till leaves start falling later. Will go over on the path later and cut some small stumps from cutting down bushes, down to ground level.

But today I’m heading to town as need to go to credit union and want to get some craft wood to make a little shelving for a corner area in my trailer. Have reservations for a final camping trip later this month, so will work on that project this weekend. We have some more normal temps coming in after Sunday for the rest of the week.

So, best get a move on here. Hope you all have a nice day and as we tell each other, stay safe.

Good morning all,
Think fall has arrived on the shore. Nothing going on here. Wasn’t going to post but saw this. My chuckle for the day.

He makes it sound so easy, as if anyone should try it.....even a non cook like me.

The rig is out in the driveway exercising its generator with some Sea Foam in the gas tank. It does run but I suspect its performance could be improved. The curtains went in except for the last set that still need their tape sewn on. "Someone" didn't order enough tape the first time. For a non seamstress sowing by the seat of her pants, I did not lose sleep over the error and it will not be reported on her Yelp site in the review. There is a camping dog show in two weeks but I am not mentally or physically ready to shift the dog show equipment from the mini van yet. I do have two stacks of odds and ends that need to negotiate for a spot in the more limited storage space though. I also realize that even if I keep her plugged in here 24/7 at the house that I probably won't keep the frig running. I will need to make some adjustments. I was so used to just keeping the butter and condiments in the RV frig and minimizing the last minute food shifting. I keep reminding myself that learning new things and behaviors is good for the minds of the elderly.

OK, not chuckling. Don’t know if 180 in Australian means something else in American but Airfryer Guy’s recipe didn’t work for me. After numerous adjustments of time and temp Egg sandwich was finally cooked. Thought I could just pick it up and eat, not. Will use a knife and fork next time. There will be a next time just need to work out a recipe. Will try 300° for 7 minutes but checking frequently.

Tina, your Roadtrek sounds like so much fun.

Good morning gals!

Shirl, when I was little, my dad was a salesman for an appliance company. When the first small household microwave came out in the 60's, (originally called the Amana Radar Range), he brought one home to test out. Me and my friends started experimenting with all sorts of different foods in it. We loved how marshmallows got really big and crunchy! It was a lot of fun!

Laying in bed yet with Lola. Should get up soon and do my errands before it gets too hot out. Need to go to the bank and then pick up some acrylic paint to finish my gourd, buy some gas and head back home. Have a haircut to do later for my friend Debbie.

Enjoy your day and stay safe! :D

Shirl, Aussies use metric measurements so it is possible the 180* is Celsius and would actually be about 350* Fahrenheit.

Shirl, what Barbie said. Try 350. (We're, I think, the only country in the world using Fahrenheit and our measuring system.) I toast in mine frequently. Might have to throw an egg on top, maybe even the bacon.

Thanks for info, I’ll try that. It was good once it was cooked. Also after cleaning the egg yolk that dribbled down my chin. After the pandemic I might not be allowed in polite society again. Months of lax table manners and lack of clothing does create bad habits. :?

I walked out to the barn yesterday and the grass needs to be mowed again. It seems like I just mowed it. Where are the cows when you need them. lol

Shirl, Harold had several surgeries and broken bones from horse accidents and he said the rotator cuff surgery was the worst. It's my left hand that goes to sleep and my right shoulder that is bad. About 8 years ago I tripped over a cat(of course) and landed on my elbow. I heard a crunch in my shoulder and it dislocated my shoulder. I'm sure by now I have arthritis in that shoulder. It doesn't hurt all the time but I feel it all the time, if that makes any sense. I don't think it's normal to feel your body parts all the time. I don't know that I could ever hook a bra in the back. When I had to have my arm in a sling for 6 weeks I got a couple of bras that hooked in the front but they are long gone.

The 180 with the air fryer sounded low to me too. It looks like as much grease a slice of bacon has the bread would be greasy. Sugar wouldn't want me doing that because I usually scramble 2 eggs and give her part of it. I'll have to try the marshmallows. I didn't know marshmallows would get crunchy in the microwave. My first microwave was an Amana Radar Range and I loved it. None have been as good since. I lost the cook book that came with it. I found one online but haven't decided I need another cook book. Speaking of lax table manners, I found cloth napkin the other day and though I should make a bib out of it. I have to pretreat my shirts before I wash them because of all the greasy spots.

Tina, I have tried putting Sea Foam in the gas and running my generator. It seems to help. I try to remember to put some in the mowers each fall when the grass slows down so the mower doesn't just sit all winter. When my refrigerator in the old RV went out I kept all the shelves because I knew how much they cost. They want about $25 for one of those plastic shelves. When I was going through stuff yesterday I found the box of shelves. Two of the shelves in the RV I have now were broken and I was able to replace them. If you ever have to replace a refrigerator and they are going to throw the old one away, keep the shelves.

I didn't make it to town yesterday so might make it today. Today would be better than Friday.

Sue, I am glad to hear that somewhere in the country, there is normal weather!!! Even in Idaho, I am getting my old asthma cough back just from quick trips outside, so I check the air quality as well as the temperature each day. Luckily, it has not been too hot lately. But the little smoke we have here has made my sinuses drain constantly and I cough because it drips into my throat and chest.

Got to run to go my laundry and then have a teleconference with students in a couple of hours.

I take it back Sue about Michigan and having normal weather. I just read that there is a dangerous mosquito in Michigan, and they are advising people to stay indoors! Hopefully, you will have a good freeze soon!

Time seems to be going so slow. But tomorrow I get to move to the Suites. Have lunch with a camping group from down here. Meeting Laura and her Mom this weekend, then will just take a breather and settle in. Laura is bringing me more stuff. She said she has some other stuff for me so every little bit helps. Nothing big just a few things I need and she has extra. We had pizza for lunch today and I still have a salad for dinner so all set.

I keep remembering things I had and really liked. Like my GPS, tire pressure monitor system, rug shampooer, vacuum, Roomba, you get the picture. I had a few items that were very sentimental to me but I find I just cannot dwell on that as I cannot change it.

Not sure if they are going to rebuild our park or not or if I would want to wait for it anyway. I love it down here but I dont really have anything keeping me here now. My little community is gone and friends scattered all over so I can actually go anywhere. Not making any decisions quickly, I do have a year to try to get settled. I sure hope this never happens to anyone else. But you just have to move on.

When you microwave marshmallows, they grow large while they are in there. You have to watch so they don't get too cooked, less than a minute. Otherwise they will get too hard when you take them out. They deflate once you take them out and then you can carefully (hot!!) take them apart as they will be a bit stringy and they will harden some and get crunchy. You gotta practice until you get the timing just right. :D

Karen, I imagine you will remember little things for quite awhile that you lost. Most things can be replaced but others can't. Those are the tough losses to handle. :(

There is a new fire that just broke out in Palm Springs. Hope they can get that under control quickly. That will surely bring smoke my way since it is on this side of the mountains, unlike the other fires. I am on the other side of the valley from it so no danger here from the fire itself.

I am just about finished with my gourd and am just putting a clear coat on it now. Will post some pics when I am done. I am pretty happy with it. I am finding that with painting, mistakes are fairly easy to fix. :D

Uh, oh!! Just noticed that my AC in the living room is off..bummer!! It is 93* in here! (How do I not notice that until it is so hot in here?? I really must be getting used to the 100+ temps!! )....the one in the bedroom is off too and is 90 in there! Back to square one! :(

Good Evening.

Another smoky day. I think by Saturday I'll put on a mask and a helmet just to get out! :)

Tina, definitely some adjustments going to the smaller rig. Kudos for taking on the curtains.

Anne, your ash on the butter story - oh my! I had ash on the seat of the Sling that wasn't bad the first day of smoke. I keep the windows down a bit in the truck due to heat. I have a real mess in there!

Laughed about the bra stories. I bought new bras before the cruise last year and was having trouble hooking them. I hadn't hooked in front and twisted to the back in so long I forgot all about it!

Martha, carpal tunnel came to mind and your cleaning up after the storm is probably a good thought. I used to have to wear a hand/wrist brace from time to time.

Karen, you will no doubt be more comfortable at Homewood. I was thinking maybe you could make a list of your replacement items and share with me. :D Different circumstances, but I'll be starting over next May. Have started looking at furniture online. Latest thing I thought of was a winter coat!

I think Netflix will begin early tonight! Everyone be safe!
