A Mid September Fri

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

A Mid September Fri

Postby Colliemom » Fri Sep 11, 2020 7:43 am

Good Morning all. Chilly morning here, 35 degrees. Nice and warm in here though. There’s a chance of patchy frost this morning, but with the lake across the road here, it is steaming in the cold air and puts a blanket of fog over us. Temps have been way below normal for over a week now.

Just returned from a week of camping in the U.P. again. Had a good time with friends over the Labor Day weekend. Only downside to this trip was constant wind blowing colder air in. Did have some campfires though. But my electric heater got a workout too. Fall camping season is upon us. Have reservations for one more trip For fall color, before I winterize and put it away.

Been playing catch up On here as don’t carry a lot of data, so not online a lot when camping. Was so sorry to se Karen lost her home but am glad she and Emma are safe. The fires out west are unbelievable in their destruction. Stay safe, those of you in areas where they are burning.

Since everything's so wet and damp outside, will spend day visiting with my friends down south of me here. She just had a bunion removed from her foot, so will enjoy the company. Will give hm a break from being “caregiver” so he can go work on a used 5er they just bought. First off, need to get cleaned up and out of jammies, then go get newspapers for my neighbor husband while she’s downstate. He’s older than she is and health issues keep him pretty much in. So guess I had better get to it.

Have a nice day and stay safe out there.

The trash truck woke me up and when I looked out my trash can was in the road. I wasn't planning on getting up that early but went and got my can out of the road. After being without one for 3 weeks I am guarding this one. I filled it up yesterday with stuff from the old house. I'm starting to make a dent in the junk.

Wednesday I decided to buy a new washing machine. The guys that delivered it earned their delivery fee. I had a stacked, full size washer and dryer. My utility room is only big enough for a washer and dryer. I had bought a stacked set so I could have a litter box in the utility room. It would have had to be unstacked for someone to work on the washer. I wasn't impressed with the front loading washer so got a top load. If I was any shorter I wouldn't be able to reach the bottom of the new washer. The litter box will have to go somewhere else.

Yesterday I tried to get all the mowing done. The weather forecast has rain for the next week. Now they are talking about another storm coming into the gulf. I hope our campout in two weeks doesn't get cancelled.

I don't really want to go to town again but it's Fish Friday. lol How bad do I want a fish dinner? They also have crawfish fettuccine and their fettuccine is good. It's sure hard to stay on a diet in South Louisiana.

Good morning Everybody from a cool CT. Tina, I had to laugh when you suggested that we might not have remembered the password for the Members Only.... Luckily I wrote in down. Laura, thank you so much for coordinating our efforts to help Karen. We all fuss about our “stuff”, but I can’t imagine how it feels to lose everything. My heart goes out to Karen. Peggy

It is hazy outside this morning. High level smoke blowing down from the fires north of here.

I have the day off. Need to get some stuff done around here. One thing I have to do is order a new phone. Mine has been acting up lately and now it won't let me call out, just text.

I will also probably go visit with Candiss and figure out our plan B for getting her moved. Personally, if it was me, I would just resell the house she just bought up in OR and stay put here. She could probably sell it pretty quickly with all the displaced people now up in that area.

It is especially sad that the fire that took Karen's house and so many others was arson. I hope they find who did it!

I need to get my AC guy back out. My units randomly shut off for no reason. Not sure if they are set up wrong, but I have read thru all the instructions and gone thru all the settings. When they shut off, they don't come back on until I turn them on.

There is some little black stuff on the roof of my golf cart. Am wondering if that is ash from the heavy smoke we had here last week when the El Dorado fire first started? I had read that people out here had noticed some in the air then.

My stomach is growling. I better find something to eat for breakfast...have a good day and count your blessings!

I just read Barbies post that said the fire that took Karen's community was arson!! If they find the person I think they should be charged with manslaughter if anyone died and if no one died they still should a really long prison term. The same penalties should apply if they know who had the gender reveal party that started the other fire.

Maratha your washer/dryer situation sounds like mine. They had a hard time getting my 22 year old Maytag stack combination out. The new unit is smaller and is such bad quality I hope it doesn't last long. I also got a top loader, I've heard lots of people who don't care for the front loading style. Most of the newer appliances don't seem to last long. One of my friends is on her 3rd refrigerator in 3 years and they were not cheap models! Her new gas stove has also caught on fire twice and the company won't replace it. If her son hadn't been home the first time she would have lost her home.

Barbie you have bad luck with with the new air conditioner. I hope they can fix it.

I've decided to sell 'Elsie" I have never camped in it since I bought it so not much point in paying insurance and winter storage. Part of me doesn't want to but I keep reading it is a good time to sell, especially these small ones. I'm also hesitant about people coming to look at it but guess I'll worry about that if it happens. I may be overly optimistic.

BJ, this is the first issue I have had with the new AC system. It seems that it only happens when I have the fan set to the first or low position. Will get it checked out. Otherwise it is working very well. Too bad I can't afford your RV or I would buy it from you! They are in high demand now. I hope you sell it soon! Sorry you never got to use it. Such a beautiful rig!

They do know who had the gender reveal party and I am sure they will get charged with it. I think they need to outlaw those types of gender reveals. There have been so many accidents with those, besides setting fires.

The smoke is moving into the valley more now and we have air quality warnings tonight.

Candiss wanted to try to head out next weekend. I didn't feel good about that. I went to have a talk with her today about it. I asked her if she really thought it was a good idea to go so soon with what is happening up there. I said it would be better if we could wait a few weeks until things get more under control, the weather cools off, and hopefully the smoke clears some. I know she is anxious to move into her new house but I said I was worried about her health and safety with going up there too soon. I gave her time to think about it and she decided that we should wait until the first weekend in October and plan for that. She has been feeling sick the past week, I am sure from all the packing, the heat, and the stress of this all and she didn't look good today. I think she can sit back and relax a little now while we wait. She is all done with packing and the temps are cooling a bit here, so hopefully, she can calm down and start feeling better. By the time I left her place, she looked better and I feel a lot better about it too.

I work a half day tomorrow and then have Sunday off. I think I will work on gourd stuff this weekend. I need to calm down some too! Everything going on lately has been stressful to me too. I have been grinding my teeth really bad lately.

Funny story...While living out here, I have been told that I have a MN accent. I found out that it is the way I say my long "o's". like in "Minnesooowta" . Well, today I was watching Gunsmoke and James Arness who played Marshall Dillon was talking to someone and said the word "boat". It sounded just the way I say it. So I googled him to see where he grew up...in Minneapolis!! Even I can recognize the MN accent now! :D

Good night!

That’s funny Barbie. One thing I’ve noticed from your posts is when you say “anyways.” I’m a native Californian and it’s always “anyway” here. I don’t know if the way you say that is specific to Minnesota or maybe the Midwest. My dad was born in Minnesota and lived there through college and I never heard him say “anyways.”

Another thing I’ve noticed here on the forum is some talking about “going with.” Never heard that before. Here we say “going with me” for example. Every time I hear “going with” I’m waiting to hear with whom or what.

For a person like myself only living in my little cocoon in California, I love that this forum and RVing have exposed me to so much outside my sheltered life.

I just want to add that this forum is better than any news program. Also, I heard a commentator state it is too bad the education system hasn’t kept up with the technology of today. I can sure understand that statement. (Velda’s comment made me think of that)
Yes, the women on here are fantastic and wonderful! Lyn

Barbie, I grew up outside Chicago. I had the typical "no accent" they wanted for reporters. I lived in Minneapolis for 3 years and thought I sounded just the same, but heard from others that I now had a Minnesota accent. I get a kick out of it. No idea what accent I have now. Oh and I put no accent in quotes because I've also heard that everyone has an accent of some kind.

When my children were in their very early years of school, my then husband had an offer of transfer to New Orleans. We went there for 4 days for his meetings and to look at houses and schools. We found after only 4 days we had both picked up some very New Orleans pronunciations that we didn’t have when we left California. What was also so funny was my husband had a Spanish accent. Adding the New Orleans accent was hilarious. Years later we were always thankful he turned down the transfer thinking as Californians we’d never be able to contend with hurricanes. Once we got back it didn’t take long for us to lose our 4-day-old southern accent.
