I feel so bad for Karen. Did she loose her home or does she know yet? She loved where she lived. I did see that she wasn't prepared and only was able to get a change of clothes and a few items, did it happen at night. I will help in any way that is suggested. If we had her email address those who use Paypal and wanted to donate monetarily could do so very easily.

Like everyone else, I ache for Karen and would gladly help however possible. Just so thankful she and Emma are safe.

I don't recall fires being so threatening to this number of towns before, including urban areas. I watched a Seattle news station video of the helicopters and firefighters in Sumner yesterday - just amazing. I drove the 3 miles to my daughter's for a haircut yesterday, and it wasn't bad. Today the hills are disappearing in the smoke.

Everyone be safe from all the things we must deal with these days.

Thanks, Judy for fixing the day.

Karen's latest communication:
"Wasnt prepared for this. Have a change of clothes, laptop, Emma , phone thats it. RV out of danger but staying at a friends but we were evacuated this morning so have a hotel for tonight. Not sure where I will be parking the RV".

When she can get herself in a situation to even clear her mind, then we'll find a way to send her what she needs, things/money, etc.

I don't remember this ever happening either.

This from CalFire (California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection):

Compared to last year, California has seen over 2,650 more fires and a nearly 2000% increase in the acres burned year-to-date (January 1 – September 7), across all jurisdictions.

This whole situation with Karen, and all the devastating fires all over is overwhelming to me. I am glad Karen at least has her RV to live in for awhile. That is one less thing for her to worry about for now.

My trip is obviously now on hold. The fire is just working it's way up along I-5 pretty much. I am not sure if it is even open yet beyond the CA/OR border. My friend Candiss is so upset that she is physically sick now. We cancelled the dinner for tonight. She is lucky that she hasn't sold her house yet so she is not stuck needing to move out right away. She was planning to rent it out if needed so it is still furnished and she has what she needs available for now.

We are shorthanded at work, so my boss is gladly putting me back on the schedule for next week.

The wind last night blew the smoke out of the valley here. Can still see it hovering over the mountains tho. Was nice to see blue sky today and not smell smoke. It didn't even reach 100* today. :D

I guess I have a lot of pineapple/orange Angel Food cake to eat...

Karen's reply to my post about helping on FB:
"You are ALL so sweet. Right now talked to my insurance..claim filed. They are working on housing. Called storage unit by my house have damage but my unit is ok. Lots of RV stuff in there. Very devastating for sure. Going to Walmart need some clothes and toiletries. Waiting to get in our room. I'm pooped."

Hi everyone,
I'm sure Karen will appreciate all your kind words and encouragement. She will get on here and post when she can. I'm still trying to wrap my arms around all the devastation in our state. I have another friend that lost his home in a different fire up in my area (not close, I'm safe) and he said he spent the night under a bridge on the river because he couldn't get out until yesterday afternoon. I have multiple coworkers who have evacuated and have no idea if they have a home to go back to. Most people up here had some notice that evacuations were coming. Level 1 "get ready", then Level 2 "get set", and then finally Level 3 "go now". Even my sister and her husband are on Level 2 right now in Medford. So, so many affected by these fires. The wind was blowing in the foothills (where the big fire is by me) over 75mph. That's hurricane strength. Absolutely impossible to fight a fire that's moving that fast.

Lyn mentioned an address for her but her park is pretty much gone and I don't know if the post office in her town is still standing or not so lets hold off on mail for now.

Anywho, I'll talk to Karen after she's had a chance to catch her breath either today, tomorrow, or the next day. I'll see if she needs anything and we can go from there. I'll keep everyone updated when I can.

Thanks,
Laura

Oh my! I just read here that Karen lost her home! So frightening, but at least she and Emma are safe, and hopefully her RV is safe. Small consulation, but at least she may be able to live in it while things clear and she can rebuild.

Karen, know that are thoughts and prayers are with you. Take Strength from your support sysyem this time and try not to carry this alone. We are here for you.

Thank you Laura. Please let us know how she is doing and if and/or what she needs. I imagine gift cards or cash would be best so she can get what she needs as she goes along getting re-established somewhere.
You stay safe too! Don't take any chances! I would be leaving at level 1!

I found a video this afternoon, made by two young men who are film makers. Oddly enough, I recognized one of the names immediately, because as a boy, he used to film his Moms videos on green smoothies. Anyhow, they took back roads and drove around Talent, live streaming. Some places we're still burning , and they passed hissing leaking gas lines, as well as detouring around down power lines. They showed one side of the main boulevard devastated, while the other was mostly intact. They showed homes leveled and others intact, sme of which were next door neighbors. It was a awful weird landscape. It will be a while before Talent and other towns recover. and the fires are ongoing.
Sadly, we learned tonight of at least 3 dead overnight and 12 injured, some critical, and about a dozen missing, trapped by fire that blew in by big winds, quite suddenly, trapping many. that was about 60 mikes north of me and not far south of Paradise, where 83 people died in 2018, when that city burned.
My warm hugs to Karen as she begins her recovery.
