An Early Sept Snow

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

My heart goes out to Karen, and to all those affected by fire and hurricane.

Karen, if you are able to read this, know that we are all thinking of you and wishing you the best. If you need clothing, you and I are about the same size - I have a lot of clothes - let me know and I will try to get a box to you. I am also willing to send a few $$. Let us know what you need.

Have just heard during the high winds of last night a new fire has started in the foothills, about 15 miles from where I live in the valley (I am safe).

My foothills home of 30 years (which I sold in 2018) is under threat, and under evacuation order.

My best friend's son, under mandatory evacuation, has just left his home.

Ash as large as the size of a dime was falling here for hours at my house last evening. Even with the doors and windows closed, fine ash gets into and onto everything. Floors, rugs, bedding, blinds - you name it. Any moisture in the air turns the ash sticky. I can see a thin film of sticky ash on my hardwood floors. No point in cleaning with ash still falling and fires still burning.

High winds overnight. This morning the sky is completely overcast by smoke, the light outside is a weird yellow color, it is very dark outside, at 9:00 a.m. it looks to be about 8:00 p.m. just before the last light goes.

I received a long text from my next-door neighbor, a lovely young woman with a new baby. She is very religious, and with the fires and the virus and everything that is going on, thinks that this is the "End Times" as forecast in the Bible. Although I must admit that it looks like Armageddon outside, I wrote back to her to say that everything that is happening now, has all happened before, which is true enough. I told her to hold hope.

Lets all of us hope for better news.

In my area in the San Francisco Bay Area this morning there’s a red glow. No sunshine. Sky is just red. It looks like we’re on Mars!

Found this photo online. It's not my area, but is in Oakland. One can see the yellow of the air, but it doesn't capture the look exactly - in addition to being yellow, everything outside has an erie bright yellow glow to it, not captured in the photo.

It is similarly dim here and some ash falling, car and walks coated. Entire west coast of US is a mess.
