An Early Sept Snow

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

An Early Sept Snow

We didn't get a lot. Actually probably 3 or 4 inches per the picnic table. But the streets were just wet. I think they were retaining all the heat of the previous days. Ground snow also didn't accumulate too much. I should have taken a better picture of the trees. They are beautiful right now.

Good Morning!

Snow is always pretty, Beth, as long as you don't have to worry about driving in it! Hopefully, you won't have anything worse. I already know I'll probably be 'housebound' next winter unless the kids come pick me up. :)

Washington is having major fires now and the smoke is everywhere - some of you know this experience well. Daughter said visibility is poor - she had to get home from work yesterday and go to work this morning. I have new glasses and meds ready to pick up, but they'll wait. There are construction workers here with families and they all stayed outside after the smoke rolled in - yuck!

Everyone be safe!

Apparently I-5 North has been closed at the California border. They say some semi truck drivers have abandoned their trucks on the highway. Sure hope Karen and Emma along with their home will be OK. Karen lives in Talent in Jackson County north of Ashland if anyone wants to follow the Almeda Drive Fire progress. Currently 1,000 acres burned and multiple structures destroyed. Burning on both sides of I-5.

Karen and Emma are safe with a friend, but left, of course her RV and home in a hurry.
How are things where you are Sandi.its as dark as 7:30 here with smoke and yellowish weird light outside. Fire near Sac airport and up hill above Pollock Pines with evacuations. We are safe but what a ongoing tragedy!

It was about 17°cooler here today from yesterday when it was 111°, Velda, but you would think it was a cloudy day. Smoke is horrible. The sun is just an orange blob.

Karen, Velda, Barbie & Beth & those I haven't mentioned, please be safe. My heart goes out to all of you on the west coast.

Steve & I left MD this morning and have the first leg of our trip behind us. That portion of the trip if the worst part of our trip, with the Baltimore & Washington traffic. It is a bear and there's nothing good about it. Tomorrow's trip will be better and every trip there after will be better. We will be traveling in the rain tomorrow and wish we could send this weather to the west coast, because we have been inundated with rain.

Please stay safe everyone.

Such awful stuff going on all over. :(

I hope Karen doesn't lose her home and RV, but at least she and Emma are safe. Those fires just pop up out of nowhere and spread so darn fast!!

Being in the desert, I am safe here, other than the smoke from the surrounding mountain fires. Very smokey here today. Like Sandi said, the sun was just a red ball in the sky. Could barely see just the outline of the mountains today. It was really humid today but the temps were just over 100*. Will get down to the low 70's tonight. Wish I could open the windows for some fresh air but no fresh air to be had here. Now the Santa Anna winds have picked up. Good for clearing out the smoke here in the valley but bad for the firefighters battling the ever-spreading fires.

Am making the angel food cake tonight. Is it supposed to get all fluffy when you add the pineapple?? It is almost like meringue. Hope it turns out OK. I am making one 8X8, and two loaf pans. So far my oven is working good with no smell so it is truly fixed and usable. Yay!

Will be keeping an eye on the fires and our route to Cottage Grove, OR over the next few days. We can postpone the trip as long as needed til it is safe to go. Not worth putting ourselves in danger!

Keep posting updates on Karen! I can't imagine the sense of panic and worry she must be going thru! I hope she had a bag packed before hand. Altho it sounds like the fire had just started shortly before she was evacuated.

Karen has recently posted that the rumor is that her park is gone. I'm so glad that she and Emma are safe. And I hope the rumor is wrong.

I don’t do Facebook, but Diana (mtngal) told me Karen posted at 4am today that her park is gone. They’re waiting to go and see for themselves.

Barbie, I think you should postpone your trip to Oregon.

That is heartbreaking!! I hope she was able to grab a few of her important things before she left. I think her RV was parked somewhere else so hopefully that is safe. I just can't imagine what she must be feeling.
