Beautiful Sunday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Beautiful Sunday

Postby Shirlv » Sun Aug 30, 2020 9:17 am

Good Morning All, cool lovely morning on the shore. Low dew point so have windows and doors open. Hurricane Laura had fizzled out by the time it reach Maryland so just a little rain and I am grateful. Moved plants and bistro set back onto the balcony. I always have a hard time finding something for lunch. Going to make a pot of soup to freeze in small portions to solve that problem. I don’t like cooked spinach so always substitute kale in recipes. Local store only sells large bunches. Farmer friend said you can freeze kale without blanching, just wash, dry and bag. Always have a supply in freezer. Corn is plentiful this time of year and can be cut off the cob and frozen without blanching too. That’s my thoughts for the day. Be safe

Good morning. Lark told me that we needed to take a paddle down a river today. We are off in a few minutes...unless I get too distracted. I need to get out of the house. Kayaking down a slow moving river is like my favorite part of horseback riding. I get to see beautiful scenery and ponder the views. Don't have to walk.....

It looks to be a beautiful day here, also. I planned to go into Custer SP, or another drive. As I slept very poorly last night, I may not do much of anything. And that's ok. Maybe I'll get some energy later.

Shirl, I'm the opposite of you. I love spinach, can eat it cooked, raw, etc, but have never acquired a taste for kale. Good thing both are good for us and we really can pick the one we like. I cook soups, stews etc and always have single or double portions frozen for a meal. I need to reassess my freezer and maybe start some more. I particularly love them while traveling.

Time to get a move on and at least get Ty out and about. I do wish I could learn to sleep like every dog of mine always has, out like a light and rarely ever gets me up during the night or in the morning if I want to sleep in. How come I can train them better than myself?

Yes, lovely day here too! I have plans to go to the boy friends home today to meet with the other daughter and get enrolled in a fantasy football league. All this on zoom. Sounds quite complicated to me. I don’t even know if we will have a football season. Every thing is so up in the air.
Saw Martha’s post. Glad you are OK.
All you cooks are driving me crazy. Know what I just ate? After I heated in the microwave...Chinese wan-tons. With chicken and cilantro. There is a ready made salad, cesars, over at grocery outlet that I like. Everything in one package, open, mix and eat. My cooking style!
My daughter will be serving lunch...fish tacos, with part of that 150 lbs of fish the BF caught up in Alaska.
We do not wear masks, but observe “distance “.
OK, no boring posts, right!

Not too beautiful here this morning. It's raining off and on. The temperature is only 82 but the humidity must me 100%. I went out to feed the cats. First I was wet from sweat and then it rained on me. I was trying to find where I put all the cat bowls. I have to put the bowls in a pan of water to keep the ants out. It was raining yesterday when I went to get Sugar so didn't go to Walmart for ant poison. Not much in the mood to go to town today either.

I hauled the trash out. It was so heavy from cleaning the refrigerator I had to unload one bag and make 2. My refrigerator hasn't been this clean since I bought it several years ago. I better bring the big bin to the side of the road before I put anymore in it or I won't be able to move it. Our trash truck doesn't run until Friday but hope they make a run before that since they missed the past Friday.

I put a red beans and rice kit in the slow cooker. My sister and some of her family are coming either today or tomorrow. I have air conditioning and they don't have power. I don't know what possessed me to buy a red beans and rice kit because I seldom eat red beans. This will be a good excuse to cook it.

Lyn, I don't know much about football but if it's a fantasy league do they even need a real game. They would come around with a board to bet on games when I was working. I told them I didn't want to bet because then I might have to watch a game. lol I always hated when they had the big basket ball playoff. That's all they talked about. It took our CPA to figure out who won what. I like the caesar salad kits you can buy. They are easy for potlucks.

Better start picking up stuff in the living room. It is full of stuff that got unloaded from the motorhome when it went to the shop. I don't know when I will get it back. They are waiting on a part. Someone the previous owners had work on it had rewired something instead of putting the part it needed so that was why the jacks didn't work sometimes.

It is cool and less humid today but has rained a little couple of times. Martha so good to hear you are getting settled back in but sorry you have so much work to do.
I made beef stew for dinner and it tastes really good. I haven't been cooking much it has been so hot. I was used to running down to the store in the afternoon if I decided to cook. Now I have a lot of frozen meat and have to plan ahead.
Tina I hope you had good weather for you paddle today. I've been enjoying your Ireland trip photos and blog again on FB.
Shirl, some people freeze corn with the husks on, I think they wrap in brown paper and then put in freezer bags. I think I will try your method of cutting off the cob and freezing without blanching.
Lyn enjoy your trip to the boyfriends, when I first read that i thought you meant yours! Fish tacos sound good. Beth I'm with you on kale not a taste I like.

I am now at Lake Cascade in Idaho, about 75 miles north of Boise. It was a gorgeous drive along the Payette river. I did not expect such a beautiful drive--lots of rapids and people pulled over to the side loading or unloading kayaks. Did not see anyone actually going over the rapids, but I would need to be at least 45 years younger and a lot better swimmer to tackle those! Some drops were 6-10' high.

And I need to remind myself more often NOT to change campgrounds on a Sunday! Way too much traffic, even if it was mostly on the other side of the road headed for Boise. I pulled over several times to let traffic past me, and I also stopped and made myself a steak sandwich on the way. Got out and took photos of the rapids a couple of times, also.

Anyway, Boise was hot even though it is at 2,500' in elevation, but Lake Cascade is 4,800' high, so it is nice and cool here. Turned off AC and have windows opened, which I don't think I have done in two or three months. I am at Big Sage campground and cost was only $24 because I am a senior. Usually state parks don't give out-of-staters discounts, but this one does. Nice. And my site is large and right on the lake, although I would have to walk down a small hill.

Going to have to check out Massacre State Park. I am going to be east of Twin Falls next weekend.

In case anyone doesn’t know: stick the clean corn cob in the hole of a bundt pan. Cut the kernels downward with a sharp knife and they fall in the pan. Scrap the cob with the knife and let the juice run in the pan. Place in freezer bags. Yum

a lazier than normal Sunday laid in bed and FB till I decided that I ought to get up and use the rest room and take Shadow out... so got dressed made bed ect took Shadow out and put him on a lead so he could explore and take care of business... went back in until I heard him at the door... he stays outside longer that way... think it is good for him was quite windy or I would have sat down and enjoyed the vit. D :? it was cool enough that all I did was open the door not any of the windows... other than the bedroom and they typically stay open till I have to turn the furnace on... if I turn on the buddy I shut the door to the bedroom... it's going to start getting cooler in the evenings so need to turn the propane back on for it... so if I want it can have it...
but other than being cooler and windy it was a beautiful day here as well Martha think you were the only one that didn't have nice weather...
I like spinach more than Kale I believe not sure I have really experienced kale... Wal Mart has a really good individual salad that I pick up when I go one is a chicken and walnut not sure of the rest of the ingredients other than lettuce but really like it. This last time I tried one called chicken BLT it was ok but preferred the other...
I too wondered what Lyn hadn't told us ....
about decided to stay up at the house for chat so that I can use my computer instead of the phone... gotten so I don't like to walk in the dark the ground is uneven and down hill but will try it for tonight... did bring the flashlight with me...

OK, boring, but here it is...

It was indeed a beautiful day here - not too hot, didn't need the A/C except for a little time in the afternoon.

Got the house ready for full-time daycare for the little guy starting tomorrow. Washed floors, put up gates, etc...

Spent the last few days helping son survive working while tending to both kids - DIL was out of town on her annual girls-weekend. Not sure how they're going to handle distance learning for Olivia when DIL resumes working from home tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. Olivia was enthusiastic at the start of school but since the teacher can only see a few kids at a time, she rarely calls on some of them. When I told Olivia to sit up straight so the teacher can see her, she told me "the teacher doesn't care - she can't see me". She gets so discouraged when she raises her hand to answer a question & is never called on. I know the teacher is making the best of a tough situation but it's also tough trying to keep a 5-year old interested when she is being ignored day after day. DIL is going to pay attention to how often she is overlooked & then will mention it to the teacher as diplomatcally as possible.

Oh, I made the pineapple/angel food cake - so easy & so delicious! I included the mandarin oranges & loved it! Main problem is how easy it is!

That's it for today.
Take care, everyone.

Good evening! Finally getting on here today!

Martha, so glad to hear all kitties are accounted for! Yay!

Sheila, actually my AC includes heat too. Just not thinking about heat right now. So the heat will work the same as the AC with the new system. I went to Home Depot today and picked up some magnetic vent covers to cover over all the floor vents in the house since they are no longer needed.

I don't do spinach or kale. My dad used to stink up the house with cooking his spinach and I would have to leave the house for awhile! I know a lot of people who do not like kale, so I have no interest in trying it. I stick to the basics; lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, peas, beans, corn and potatoes.

Tina, I hope you and Lark had a nice relaxing kayak ride today! I miss doing that!

I knew Lynn was talking about her daughter's boyfriend (not that she couldn't find one for herself! ). I used to work for a sports memorabilia company in Minneapolis and I was in charge of putting together the football board each week for the guys I worked with. Kind of went with the job. I actually won some money one week!

Martha, maybe your guests can help you clean up around there and earn their keep! I have been seeing a lot of fire ants around here lately. I put out some bait for them the other day. Apparently, they have been bad all over the park so they hired a company to come in a couple days ago and spray all over to kill them. I didn't see any today.

Judy, glad you are in a nice and cool place! I would love a site by a lake!

I gotta try that pineapple orange cake!

Stopped at Candiss' house to discuss the trip to Oregon. She made a plane reservation for me for Sept 20th. Tomorrow we will go check out U-haul trucks and see what size she thinks she will need for her stuff. She is trying to downsize as much as possible. I think it will be a fun trip! We get along so well. :D

Our shop won't be opening now until Tuesday morning. So I have one more day to get stuff done around here. I intended to do laundry today but got busy with a trip to HD and CVS and then meeting with Candiss. Turns out the battery on my golf cart is dead so have that charging up tonight. The battery charge gauge doesn't work anymore so I never know for sure when it is about to die. I should just plug it in once a week, but I barely even use it once a week. I will use it more in the fall and winter tho.

Our governor said he will be adding $300 per week to the unemployment checks and that it will be retroactive from August 1st, so I will get $1200 for that time period. Yay! I will take whatever I can get, since I had to spend $4800 on the AC system. This trip will cost me a little too, even tho Candiss said she will pay for everything. I know she is hurting for money as well, (moving costs a lot more than most people realize!), so I want to help out a little here and there. Luckily, I have vacation time at work so that will cover most of the time I will be taking off there.

OK, time for bed soon! Have a good night! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I could sure go for some of that cake. I have a cake mix but no pineapple or oranges. I put them on my list. I have nothing sweet left. I baked all the cookies and took them with me.

I can eat spinach but don't like kale. I haven't been eating enough vegetables. With everything in such a turmoil it's easier to just eat a sandwich. I took a bunch of frozen food to my son's so I wouldn't have to throw it out. One of my favorite salads at Walmart has apples, dried cranberries, chicken and nuts. I usually buy a couple of the small salads when I go to Walmart.

My sister has decided she is going to Galveston for a few days. They are treating this like a holiday and they know it's going to go on for a long time. We grew up in Louisiana without air conditioning. I wouldn't want to do it again but it can be done.

Judy, your trip today sounds nice. I don't think I would want to go over the rapids in a kayak. Meeting the man at the Grand Canyon that got thrown out of one of the rafts and hit his head left a lasting impression with me. He was air lifted out but his family had to continue on the trip. He had to hang around the hotel until his family finished their trip.

I need to see if Sugar is up to walking with me. She is sure getting chunky.

Never be concerned about me getting a BF! I am way too happy to get envolved. Besides, I am old and creekie.
Judy, loved the description of your drive in Idaho. I have been reading many nice things about Idaho.
Martha, happyto hearyou are home. Interested in that red beans and rice kit for slo cooker. Where did you by it?
I love doing the corn on the cob in the air fryer. Delicious.
My 5 year old great will began kindergarten soon. The school district gave them all chrome books. Curious to see how that will work . His 1 year old sister is excited about school. Grabs hold of any supplies left around! Luckily Grandma will be around to help.
Barbie, rooting for a good trip for you!
May this count for my check in tomorrow?
