Good morning Friday. Glad we could make it this far. Go about your day and when ever possible make moments of it worth pondering and appreciating. It is sometimes the best we can do but we need our strength to keep moving forward.

Morning Tina and All, waiting to see what the tail end of Laura has in store for the east coast. I apologize in advance for the postings of moments in my day. My pixie cut has finally grown out. My once coarse thick hair Is now wispy. It’s rather like trying to style cobwebs. I no longer care if it’s attractive I just want neat. Today I finally managed to sweep the sides up and fasten with a Barrett in the back. My small victory of the day. Plan to order gaudy Barrett’s from Amazon to draw the eye away from the thin wispy hair. Waiting for news of Martha and Barbie. Irmi, looking forward to your trip back to Florida and your plans for new property. It’s was fun reading about Beth furnishing her casita. I would like to furnish my daughters garden shed. Be safe

Morning! I worked. For only a couple hours. Eating some breakfast now. I wish I had more decorating/fixer upper skills. Mine are so basic and I admit to jealousy seeing what so many of you are able to do. Barbie, I hope your new a.c. gets installed today and works quickly to get your place cool again. Are the fires better in California? Mt Rushmore doesn't have a hazy covering and my sinuses are better here. We also are going to have a mid-70's day. Yay! As for hair talk, a couple nights ago I bit the bullet, pulled my hair back and took scissors across the back. The next night one of my workers nicely trimmed it a bit (probably a lot) so it's more even. I'm happy.

I am still at my son's house. At least we have electricty and water. My sister lives on the west side of the state and may not get power back for months. They are headed to Alexandria to try to find a generator. Hope they can get gas to get home.

My neighbor made it back home in a boat. He didn't see any damage and no water in the houses. The water is still rising because there is still a strong South wind. I don't know when we will be able to drive back. After past storms I have gotten power back fast because I am only a mile from the commercial fish plant. In the summer they are the largest electric customer in the parish. Hope I am still on their line.

Martha that sounds pretty positive. I hope you can get home soon. Nothing much going on here. I am going out to lunch with a neighbor and we are going to a local produce farm just to see what they have. It is on the honor system for donations, IF you cannot afford it feel free to take some anyway is their motto. So I want to try to support them.

Shirl, you just post anything you want. I like reading about everyone's day, even if nothing exciting happened it is fun just to chat.

Beth I too am in need of a haircut again. I also have fine hair so keeping it short works for me. Guess I will do that this coming week. Time for another eye exam also. Last year when I went I ended up being referred to the Retina Center for macular degeneration......already had my shots this month. Wed and Thurs, now dont go for another month wahoo.

I am back home. I got up early this morning and Lola and I went back to the house. She went back to the neighbors. The workers were already here at 8am and working (I had left the house unlocked in case they got here before me). They were here for 5 hours and finally got it all installed and running. It is still a little warm in here but I have the bedroom one blowing on me now and it feels great! They come with remotes so that is convenient!

I will have to do some patch up work and paint around the bedroom unit but that isn't a big deal. I have a sample of the paint that I had gotten made for the bathroom when I had the counter shelf removed above the toilet, and it is the same color in here.

Now for a nap and then food, since I haven't eaten much yet today, just some carrots and dip. But the nap comes first!

From the damage I have seen on TV of the hurricane path, it will probably be days before Martha can get back to check on her house. There are a lot of trees down, debris, and flooded streets, etc to clear yet.

We were supposed to have a reprieve from the heat by now but not happening yet. Still in the mid 100 teens and humid. Just nasty outside.

Sounds like things may start opening up out here around Sept 5th according to the news. That will give me a week or so of working before we head to Oregon. Tips were really good when we first opened up before. I need that for expenses on the trip.

Sorry Martha, somehow I missed reading your post! So glad to hear you are OK and sounds like your house is OK. Hope the water doesn't come up too much higher there. I am sure the cats will all be glad to see you!

Yep, everyone is getting shaggy again! If it was the beginning of summer, I would cut mine short, but it is now in a short bob and things will be cooling off later next month, so I can make it that long to the cooler weather. Am hoping by next summer my hair will be plenty long enough to put in a pony tail on hot days.

As for the fires, it sounds like they are getting under control in northern CA. They are starting to let people back in to check on their homes. It has cooled off up there and more humid with less wind, so that all helps with fire containment. I am sure Anne and Velda can chime in with more info.

I just read on FB that a close friend of mine in MN just lost her horse, Whinny Pearl, this morning in some sort of accident. She is devastated! She really loved that horse and rode her every day. I feel so bad for her!

made it to Walmart spent way more than I intended too... got stuff for mom some for the house and some for me... need to go take care of it but wanted to come do computer stuff...
and no books don't know if the book person is out or if she/he received no books as there were none for any of the genre of books.... so will have to call somewhere else and see if they are anywhere else...if it wasn't for having to pay for postage twice I would just have them sent via mail!!!
Barbie look on the bag of grapes there is a name the one I've been getting is Krissy I think is the way the name is spelled...
it's getting dark ought to head to the house rather not walk in the dark

There was a bad storm that went thru the Minneapolis area overnight and my friends horse must have gotten spooked and somehow got impaled on a large tree branch thru his abdomen. He had to be put down due to the severity of the injury. Just a freak accident but so tragic.

On a lighter note...The AC guy texted me and said he was going to rip up my first check for the Freon he put in the old AC the other day since I ended up having to get a whole new system in anyways. That saves me $300! What a nice, decent thing for him to do!

Also found out that all salons are able to open up on Monday. Haven't heard about mine yet but if the owner is smart, he will open ours on Monday too, since everyone will be wanting to get in right away. I think he lost a lot of business last time by waiting for 4 days before opening after it was allowed. I know a lot of our customers went to other shops since ours wasn't open that first day.

Barbie, I have been hacking away at my hair that is now hanging over my ears with a pair of fingernail scissors. Actually, it looks better, though I have a feeling it would not pass muster for a real hairdresser! (I was getting long curls in front of my ears.) I don't know what is open, but I sure hate to go into places.

Did two loads of laundry tonight and have two more to do tomorrow after I take my new bike in for repair and find a Trader Joe's to pick up a couple of things.

Don't think I have said much about or posted a photo of my new electric bike. I had ordered it from Traverse City, Michigan, but it was not ready when I was there, so they shipped it to the dealer in Bend, Oregon, where I picked it up a month ago. (They put the wrong fenders on it--supposed to be blue instead of white, but they have shipped the right ones to my son in Napa.) Disc brakes in front are rubbing on front fork so stopped riding it after a couple of days. I have always ridden a 26" bike, but after trying out a slightly smaller 24", I decided it was easier to ride, and I could control it easier in my old age. (I am only 5'1" tall, so a smaller bike is really better for me anyway.) I also chose the low step-thru to make it easier to get on and off with my old knees. And thanks to Laura (Azusateach), I got a discount on the bike!

I gave my old electric bike, which was rusted and needed a little repair to my daughter-in-law. She has been riding it the 3/4 miles from their home to her school where she is the principal. (Just teachers and admins are in school. Kids are online at home. Luckily, Napa grandkids are 13 and 15, so OK to stay at home by themselves.)

That looks like a nice comfortable bike! I also prefer the 24 inch bikes. I have shorter legs and they are more comfortable for me. I need to get mine fixed up this fall so I can use it around the park here. Do the electric bikes make much noise? Are they pretty heavy?

As for home haircuts, most are fixable and luckily hair grows back so no permanent damage done!

Barbara, here's what little I know about electric bikes, though I haven't purchased one yet. Think how quiet a battery run Prius or other electric car is next to you. To the point where there have been collisions with pedestrians who failed to notice them because they are so quiet. So I doubt there is any more noise from the electric boosted bikes than any other electric vehicle. Yes they are somewhat heavy, 12-15 lbs just for the battery. So add that weight and the electric motor it runs to weight of the bike itself. They can be pricey, though I'm betting prices come down with competition in the market, but factor in, you get what you pay for, increased price can be better quality components. From what I read, you can ride them with motor at different degrees of assisting pedals or let it do all the work or shut it off and pedal. Make sure you can pedal if battery runs out, as I've read of a few that become difficult to pedal with dead battery. Another factor to look at is range of the battery, which in itself can vary depending on how much assist you call for. If you let it do all pedaling, battery life much shorter but if you only use it as only hill assist, then you maximize battery life. You can add battery assist to some bikes later, but not all. Battery assist can come in both two wheel bikes and in three wheel trikes, both upright and recumbent. My choice would be a nice recumbent trike where I could add electric motor later if desired because components are already available. Happy shopping.
