Busy Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Busy Thursday

Postby BarbaraRose » Thu Aug 27, 2020 9:15 am

Good morning gals!

Woke up at 6 am to a warm house  . No fan again. :( So I got up and re-arranged the furniture in the living room (again!) so there would be space for the AC guy to put the new unit in the wall out there without having to move or climb over furniture, etc. Had to move all my gourd bins, etc out on the porch. Wanted to get all that taken care of before it got to hot in here.
The AC guy is waiting to find out how soon he can get the AC system from his supplier and then let me know how soon he can get it installed. I could have had another temporary fix on it but with my plans to be out of town for a week or so, I don't want to have to worry about it going out while I am gone and with Lola here.
Depending on how soon he can get it installed, I will have to find a place to stay for awhile. I know I have neighbors here who have rental units just sitting empty that might be willing to let me stay cheap for a few days or so, instead of getting a motel room. Need to get my maintenance guy back today to remove that valance for the wall unit in the bedroom. Then make a plan on where to go with Lola to stay cool.

I haven't checked to see how Louisiana and Texas are doing with the hurricane yet. I am hoping for the best for Martha and all others in it's path!

Good morning Barbie from the east coast. We are getting a few sprinkles of much needed rain this morning with heavier rains and winds later in the day. We need the rain, but you can keep the wind. Eversource, our major supplier of electricity, is on the carpet for not being prepared for a minor storm two weeks ago that knocked out power for days. That on top of a huge rate hike in July had people working from home up in arms. Electric bills skyrocketed and people are not happy. Everybody is just waiting to pounce on Eversource if they don’t perform well with this storm. Such times we are in.
Keep smiling under that mask and washing your hands. Peggy

Morning All, Barbie sorry the ac didn’t last but glad it happened now instead of while you are traveling. Picked up Walmart order and stopped at farm store for hydroponic lettuce. Needed eggs but I’m not paying $4 for a dozen eggs, don’t care if they were free ranged in Montana. It’s summer so beach traffic will make me stay in over the weekend. A threat of a hurricane will not deter beach goers. :? Each state is different but I requested a mail in ballot on line 7 days ago. Received a reply today that acknowledges my request and that a ballot would be mailed to me 30 days before the election. Also included a click”here” to find status of my request. Will post the Alfredo Shrimp Scampi Dump Dinner. Be safe

Martha, hang in there.

The AC guy was gonna install the new unit today until I reminded him I want the mini split system instead of the same type I have now. (the cost is pretty much the same and the mini split is much more energy efficient). So it will have to wait until tomorrow now. I have the maintenance guy coming over shortly to remove the wood valance and get that out of the way. Am gonna get a room for the day/night at a local motel for Lola and me since it will just be for one night.

Temp yesterday was 118* with high humidity. Today will "only" be 114* and the dewpoint is dropping into the 30's so the dryer air will fee much better. Like they say, it's not the heat, it's the humidity!

I am so not used to being up at 6am! It is 9 now and I feel like I have been up for 8 hours already!

Looked like the hurricane passed right over Martha’s home. Hopefully hearing from her soon.

Hi ladies!

Barbie, I hope you will like the split system a/c that's on order. I remember the very warm temperatures on our big trip last summer. Beth, you sound so excited about your decision to do something different next summer. Karen, the picture of Emma on top of some of her toys is so precious. Martha, I hope we hear from you soon to give us an update on the weather there. I also worry about the gals on the west coast with all the fires raging there. Shirl, we were with you at the Lake in the Woods gtg and that was so much fun.

We are down to the under 2 week mark for our trip south. We have scheduled to put Steve's pickup on an auto transport truck to go to FL, so this winter we'll have two vehicles. I got my driver's license renewed yesterday so I'm good for another 8 years. I'm so pleased they allowed Steve to go in with me to be the translator because of my hearing deficiency. I can't remember if I've mentioned that we also sold my Mercedes, so we won't have any vehicles in MD once we leave. Things are slowly falling into place.

Stay safe everyone.

I did not get to bed until 2 am last night and then slept until noon, which sounds awful, but I had a really interrupted sleep. Got one spam phone call at 6 am, then a call from someone I had left a message for regarding a bill yesterday. She called at 7 am, so I had to get up, boot up my laptop, and give her the correct answer! Living on the West Coast is a pain when a lot of your business and medical dealings on in Eastern time!! And I am not very lucid at 6 am, by the way. Nor can I get back to sleep easily, even though I am groggy. Got back up at 9 but was falling asleep in my recliner, so went back to bed.

Just had a leftover donut, so back to work on my class.

The maintenance guy was supposed to show up at 11am but of course, didn't. I took Lola next door, waited awhile and then called the guy around noon. He said he would be there in 45 minutes so I waited at my neighbors house. 1 1/2 hours later, I called him back. He said he would be there in 5 minutes so I went back to the house. After 45 minutes in a very hot house (it was 97 in there when I left), I gave up, picked up Lola from the neighbors and we went to the motel. I left a note for him to just come in and remove the valance if I wasn't back yet. I am now at the motel and will head back shortly. If he hasn't been there, I need to find some neighbors who can hopefully help me out tonight. I need to have that valance removed before tomorrow morning or they won't be able to install the AC in my bedroom. I am very disappointed in this guy! If he didn't want to do it or didn't have time, he could have just said so and not wasted my whole freaking day! Now I am hot, frustrated and crabby! I had to get Lola to the motel because she had been cooped up in the carrier for almost 5 hours! I won't even go into the hassle I had with the motel clerk. I am just too hot, sweaty and tired to deal with any of this right now. At least the motel room is cool!

I sure hope Martha is OK. I am really worried about her cats too!

I just saw a post from Martha on FB. She's fine at her sons and thinks the worst didn't get to her place. Fingers crossed she's right.

Having the pleasure of being at Martha's home, she and Harold rebuilt after the last big flood by making a hill and placing the modular home above what was flooded. The older house she refers to got flooded then and may have again. If the water gets up around the house, there will be a mess to clean up but her house should be fine........ And that is why they move all the tractors, equipment and the cows north.........

I remember Martha driving me around the area sightseeing and pointing that most of the houses were about the same era.....most of them had been rebuilt on stilts because they knew it would happen again, they just didn't know when......

I will have to make sure I look at that recipe as my mom loves shrimp and easy works for me
wish I could report that I did lots not so much .... did do one load of my dd's laundry plus folded a couple of batches...
if I know what to start fro supper would do so but understand we are having BLT's but no bacon and only 3 itsy tiny tomatoes maybe enough for two sandwiches... there is lettuce though  it was really windy today I keep a good sized rock in front of the door so it will stay open (when they built the ramp it was over the thing that keeps the door open) so a rock works right... the wind was so hard that it pushed the rock almost to where I couldn't get the screen door open but was able to push it a bit... :o it's a heavy rock as well...
was going to go to walmart and see if the books are in but didn't do that either... it's about 40 minutes away some other items that I didn't get last week either and need another bag of seeds for the birds...I have several containers with plants in them... one hanging one is looking so go much better than in years past... I love those begonias the big ones can't think of the first part of their name... usually doesn't do much this year looks so good in with the fushia one on the ramp was looking good but think I need to dead head it hopefully if I did that it would re bloom
thinking of those where the weather is giving them grief and hope that all are safe..

I went back to the house and the valance was still up. I called my friend Debbie and asked if she could send her hubby over to help. She said he would be home in an hour or so. I drove to my other friend Candiss' house and chatted with her on plans for her move to Oregon. Then drove back to the house an hour later. Dave was there with his work truck (he installs windows). He said when he pulled up, the maintenance guy was there looking for me. Dave sent him away. Lol! The valance was really built into the wall! I always wondered if those and/or the upper cabinets would come down in an earthquake. Not a chance! He finally got his crowbar out and ripped the thing off the wall after several tries! It left a couple small holes in the wall but nothing I can't patch up later. At least that is done now! It was 99 degrees in the house while we were there. So stifling! I did open up the two windows in the bedroom and got a little cross breeze thru there.
I need to be back there by 8am to meet the AC guys. Will drop Lola off next door until they are done. I think I will get the larger carrier out of the shed so I can put food and water in it for her. I would have done that today if I had known she was gonna end up being in it for so long.

So glad to hear Martha is OK. Hope she can get back to her house soon to check out any damage there and count cats.

Stopped at Taco Bell for dinner and am now hanging out on the bed with Lola watching the Weather Channel. When I was at my neighbors house, I discovered she is a Gunsmoke fan as well and we watched that while I was there. She is very sweet and we have a lot in common. She is in her 80's and her daughter is about my age and lives not far and is very nice, as well.

I am rambling...have a good night. I am glad I finally got that damn valance down!

This is the beast...
