Sunny Sunday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunny Sunday

Postby Colliemom » Sun Aug 16, 2020 8:54 am

Morning everyone. I like O’Sharon have been reading but not posting. Nothing much exciting going on here otber than getting ready for a camping trip which has just been postponed for a couple days due to a tire issue on my trailer. Discovered yesterday, that one tire was flat during my pre tire tire inspection. Didn’t notice it because the trailer is sitting in grass. Neighbor brought over his air compressor and aired it up, but a check this morning is showing some air loss again. So since it’s Sunday, decided to hold off till Tuesday and get it taken care of tomorrow. The tech who worked on my trailer last month, said one tire was low a pnd he aired it up, but didn’t say which one. Other three are fine. No big deal losing a couple days. Fun time with friends won’t be till next weekend anyway. Moved one nights reservation to Tuesday night, added an extra night on another and cancelled another park out altogether. Will spend an extra night at the park I am meeting the friends at. Lots of exploring to be done in that area of the U.P. I like this arrangement better. Maybe tire was a blessing in disguise or maybe I’m not supposed to be going camping this year ha ha. Remember the refrigerator episode and then the modem dying and Piper having Incontinence issues and still is. That forced the cancellation of one weekend. Not the first time it won’t be the last. We’ve all been through that.

So I think that since I am not going anywhere that maybe I will go down and visit with my friends today. If Camping World is open I might take a swing by there and check and see if they might possibly have the tire size that I need, although I plan to have the tire repaired if it can be, I’m thinking that since I need a new spare, I might just have that tire replaced, and use it for a spare. Could be a leaky valve or maybe I picked up a nail or something. Tires is it only three years old so I’m not wearing out. I did talk to a local tire place here in town yesterday on the phone and although they do carry this line of RV tires they do not have my size in stock. He said they are supposed to get a shipment this week but he also said that the manufactures are not making as many tires because of Covid situation. The dealer that I got these tires from is closed today and I will check with them tomorrow as well. They were recommended to me by camping work to begin with and they are very good. So it will be a fun day tomorrow. Some Ka-Ching in the charge card too probably.

All seems to be well with most of you. Sorry you gals In CA are having such excessive heat. Hope it cools down for you. Annie, glad you enjoyed that campground. I would definitely go back there. Barbie, sounds like a fun trip to OR next month. I have never been there either. I have never been there either.

Guess I had better get the show on the road around here. Hope you all have a wonderful day and stay safe out there please.

Good Sunday morning to everyone. Temperatures on the rise again. Yesterday we reached 112 for a couple hours and it was still high 80's at midnight. At 9 this morning it was already 90, with a high perhaps as high as yesterday and tomorrow peaking at 115 tuesday they say on weather report! This is a record setting string of triple digits for August here in the north end of the big San Joaquin/ Sacramento Valley. So thankful for good AC. We just stay in and away from the heat as much as possible. I see on north side of the house the grey clouds Anne mentioned, though they are thinner with blue peeking through south of the house, I haven't heard thunder nor seen any rain drops. We could sure use rain but lightning will be bad. I can't even imagine fighting fires in this heat!
My kitchen faucet got finished install, so I'm back to using sink, thankfully.
We don't have any plans right now. But enjoy hearing of travels some of you are making. I'll just have to dream of trips for now. My annual high school picnic was cancelled for the year and I haven't checked on the Pow Wow in October but betting it too is cancelled.
Glad to read Karen says Emma is better. Sue, hope Pipers issues resolve.
Lyn, sure glad you are back with a new iPad. Communication is so important during these times of few social gathering.
Stay safe and well everyone.

Kind of a lazy Sunday morning for me. It is cooler with cloud cover right now and a threat of thunderstorms later in the day. We often get lots in the summer but they arent directly over me usually. I am surrounded by mountains so I often see them and hear them in the distance. Emma can hear them apparently 30 miles away as she runs for cover under my bed when I hear nothing. Then my phone goes off and tells me where the lightning strikes are. Marvelous hearing....a blessing and a curse at times. It remains selective tho LOL

Glad to hear Sue is going out to exercise tomorrow. Her VISA platinum card LOL LOL Hope you can find the right tire size.

After yesterday Emma is back to normal, all is well so that is good. Thanks for all the well wishes.

I am pondering what to fix for dinner. I have choices just very undecided but since most things (not salad) are frozen I need to decide soon.

Congrats Lyn on selling your trailer finally! Hope you got a decent price for it! I am sure you are very relieved to have that off your mind now. Altho a bit bittersweet :(

I have been looking on line at older Class B's for sale just to get an idea of what I can expect to get for what price. Nothing too good until about $15K, but did find one at $9K that looked really nice and had solar panels too. Sold right away, no surprise. I don't have the money to buy anything now anyways but fun and educational to look. Gives me some ideas on what I want and don't want in a van. Never really considered them before but I now think it is the perfect choice for my future travels. I like the idea that I can just jump in it and go, no hitching, towing, etc.

Hi Sue, Velda, Karen, Lyn and Barbie & everyone else!

Sue, I've been reading about your ongoing sagas and hope you get the tire fixed on the trailer. Karen, so happy to her about the good news on Emma. Lyn, congratulations on the sale of your trailer & I'm so glad you love your car. Barbie, I know several ladies that have the Class B's and they love them. I hope you find one that fits the bill.

It's still raining in MD but not as hard as it did last night and this morning. We've had 14" of rain this month alone and we're only half way through August.

We have put Steve's 1998 Silverado pickup in shop and after it gets new tires tomorrow, it will be ready for us to pick up. It's been in shop for two weeks having several things done, among them being a new compressor for the air conditioner. It's a very comfortable riding truck and the plan is to take it to FL. It can't be towed 4 wheels down, so we'll still take our Ford Focus with us and will get estimates from haulers to deliver it to FL for us. I told Steve I would drive it down but he doesn't want me driving that far alone. Barbie, would you like to drive his pickup down for us? LOL!

I made a blueberry pie this afternoon with streusel on top and oven fried chicken will be dinner with salad and devilled eggs as a side.

Stay cool, stay dry and stay safe.

Barbie, I will share with you what Peggy encouraged me to do. Join several of the Class B forums on Facebook. They have specific ones for Pleasure Ways. Many for Roadtrek, some which are specific for older and or orphaned units. And a couple for Class B's in general. You also don't have to join Roadtrek International to get on their site and see the for sale by owners list. The older units that are priced reasonably do go fast....as often in within a day or two. My rig was only listed on Market Place and sold in little over two weeks. Thus after I researched a while I stayed off the forums until I had mine sold....it was too painful to know that I couldn't make offers. Reading the forum on the older rigs also lets you know what sort of issues the Roadtrek folks deal with in keeping their rigs running. Many are doing their own repair and maintenance. When you purchase at lower prices it helps to have left over money to make the repairs that might be needed. You need to go in with your eyes open and not be surprised on a rig as you might have been in the past....if you are just looking at initial purchase price.

That said my new to me rig has been at the mechanics for the a week or so getting new brake pads, and other exciting updates to keep me safe on the road. As I told Glen when I walked into to make the appointment, "I come to stimulate your economy!" But I knew that there would be additional costs involved after talking to the sellers and looking the unit over. I just wasn't sure what the costs would be, but I had/have faith in my mechanic....and I trust him. From the mechanic the rig's next stop is with the RV repair shop to go over the propane system and the water system........

So I have been busy stimulating the economy and using my PayPal account. Purchasing fabric to make new curtains out of and a new small microwave and a small screen TV......I keep breathing.....steady. Someday I will be back out there.........

Yea Lyn on selling your trailer. I know you are happy and sad at the same time. If I ever get another RV it will probably be a Class B. I like being able to pull over and have access to everything, especially the bathroom. I like the room I have now but would drive a B more.

Louisiana must be trying to compete with California, my thermometer just hit 103. That's the hottest it's been this year. I have been out messing with the satellite but had the air conditioner on. The SWiM box doesn't work with the Vuqube. Darn! I'm going to ask the guy that worked on the camper satellite if he knows a way to get the Vuqube to work with the new receivers.

Irmi, good thing I'm not near you or I would be over for dinner. I'm eating leftovers to get them out of the refrigerator. I finished off the chips I bought for the last campout. I won't buy chips unless I'm going camping. Don't know why that's ok.

My sister wants to go to the lake for Labor Day. She thinks it's in 2 weeks. I just checked the calendar and it's not until the 7th. I might have to go somewhere before then.

Great news, Lyn! As others have said, bittersweet, but once you made the decision, you want it gone!

I don't know if we hit 90 today. It's 88 now and the next two days should be 90 or above. I feel guilty complaining, but my body simply doesn't handle high temps anymore, so everything over 80 and I start sweating and wilting. One of the reasons I loved it here was rarely seeing high temps. And normally sleeping with my windows open.

If I should travel less, I'll probably park this rig, if it's still worthy, at my casita (in the storage lot when not there) and get a B for what I do continue doing. Only time will tell.

Good seeing so many post.

Could not get the mesh fabric I wanted at JoAnn's so I ended up at Camping World and bought a side curtain. It is sort of square, so I could use it on the front of my awning, or use it on the side. Problem with using it on the side, is that I need to figure out how to attach it in a way that does not require a tall ladder. I am thinking of hanging up a strap at the highest point of the side of my awning, but then wrapping it around the pole when not in use. Then somehow using it to pull up and fasten the side curtain????????????

It is going to be 105 today and I am back at Hood Park along the Snake River where it empties into the Columbia River. The good thing about this place is that there are a lot of really big trees to provide shade. For tonight, I have a spot where I get shade starting about now--just after 3 pm. I put my awning up, so it blocks the sun from noon until the shade kicks in. Tomorrow I will be in a different spot, but it also will have afternoon shade--all very important when it is supposed to hit 105 for the next two days!! Plus, I can still get satellite from this spot.

Ah, the science of picking the right sight!!!

Judy, I had someone who knew more about my awning on my Vegas than I did to alter the angle on the awning. It gave me two benefits. One as it angled down to provided additional protection from an afternoon sun. Two, it was now low enough that I could reach up and attach my sun screens with clips to the flap hanging down from the awning. Ad, yes, I am taller than you but it might work. There was also a dog show vendor that sold shade screens. One about two section slipped into the groove in the awning and hung down with a zipper. A second much larger piece zipped onto the first piece to provide full coverage vertically. With the larger piece detached the short piece was just rolled up when the awning was put away. Apparently it was not enough to affect the awning. I had a friend with a small Vista MH that loved hers...... And well she was vertically challenged....

I can reach the front edge of my awning because it is a manual one and angles down when I open and close it. I often put it in the angled position, even though the entrance door rubs against it, because it does block the sun well then.

However, this is a side curtain and the top part needs to hook on the part of the awning where it attaches to the side of my motorhome, but about 6" down from the roof. The instructions say to hook it to a bracket at the very top which does not seem to exist in my rig. Then the rest of the top of the side curtain needs to be tied to the top arm of the awning. That will be relatively easy.

I have a five-step step ladder and will see if I can tie it to something at the very top. Except, I think I'll do it when it is cooler!

Irmi, if you were in Oregon and wanting to deliver the truck to CA, I could do that! You are on the wrong side of the country tho.

Tina, thanks for the advice to check out Class B forums. I will do that! It is hard to look when you can't buy. :( Do you have pics of your new Roadtrek? (Inside/outside?)

I probably won't be able to buy anything for quite awhile but the more info I have beforehand, the better. My plan is to retire in a couple years, work part time during the winter (as much as I can get by with on SS), and travel during the summer. That will pay for my travel time. By then, hopefully Covid-19 will be a thing of the past! :o

Another 112 day today and multiple fires started from dawn hour lightning. We stayed in.
Handyman, Sean, came and turned the valve for my dishwasher back on. When I tried to use it early today, I realized after 10 min of running that no water was flowing in. This Bosch dishwasher is extremely quiet so I had left room and came back and could faintly hear the pump and knew that wasn't right, so opened door and no water! Called Sean and he said, it was 9 pm when I finished Last night, I bet I forgot to turn on the third valve, which leads to dishwasher. I didn't even know there was a third valve, thought it was just hot and cold. So, he came over right away, turned the valve back on. Then it was another hour of Chris and i looking up dishwasher manual and figuring out how to get it to reset. Then it washed that small load as normal. Yay.
Lyn, glad you sold the trailer so it isnt there taunting you. You made many great memories. And Im glad you will stick with us sharing your ideas amd experience .
Judy, I have gotten shade cloth in the garden department of both Home Depot and Lowes, along with grommet kits.
Don't forget, I drive a ClassB, the Leisure Travel FreeSpirit. I love my class B. not sure I'd full time in it, but longer trips are in my plans. My diesel gets terrific fuel economy. At 10 years or 160,000 miles there are 5 pricey service points, which I did last year, but as my service guy pointed out, it's unlikely I'll need to do them again. My van has 32000 miles as of now and since I don't travel full time, it would take a while to do another 165000 miles. There is only 1 parking lot where I hesitated to park in past, a narrow one at my credit union. But they moved across the street so plenty of parking now. My van is rated to tow 5000 so a smaller car could go with me, but I haven't planned that. I have solar up top, which helps. Tank size is limited but I can go a few days, as long as I'm very careful with showers. In fact my next upgrade will be one of those Oxy low water use shower heads.
At after midnight it's a few degrees cooler than last night at currently 85. Hope they are wrong about Monday and Tuesday being hotter!
Have a good week everyone.

Judy, I like the nice angle of those sun screens. The awning on my Vegas was electric and the arms were different. I used the same rectangular screens (I have two or three) and would just attach them to the arms of the awning. It was functional but not nearly as attractive. I haven't examined the awing on the Roadtrek for functionality. The only reason I used the one on the Vegas was because it was electric. I had had and observed too many sudden pop up storms and winds to trust my awnings to my ability to manually get them in quickly......
