Saturday morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Saturday morning

Postby Bethers » Sat Aug 15, 2020 10:14 am

I woke before 5, but unlike yesterday, didn't need to be up. About 7 I got back to sleep for another hour or so. Sturgis is coming to an end. An idiot who decided to walk among the buffalo herd on Custer SP, got thrown after venturing too close to a baby. People are friggin' idiots. And they need to heed the signs. These buffalo are used to people and vehicles being around, but you don't ignore the rules. Just plain stupidity.

I'm not planning to working much this weekend. But also not going anywhere. Walks with Ty will be my outside enjoyment.

Have a great day!

People are "friggin' idiots", for sure.

When I visited Yellowstone a couple of years back (don't think I have ever properly thanked Sue for her recommendation for a wonderful campground - Thanks, Sue! :D ) the most. . . well, let's just call it "amazing". . . sight I saw was this (and Yellowstone is without doubt chock-full of amazing sights):

I was driving around the park (as one does!) and I saw a small group of people - maybe 10 or 15, running as a group, cameras at the ready. Of course, I looked to see why they were so excited, and what they were running towards.

. . . It was a mother black bear, being closely followed by two very small cubs. Luckily (for the people!) the mother bear could run faster than the people could, and she and cubs were soon out of sight in the brush.

I could only shake my head. :?

Good morning, all. It's 10 am and 98 degrees! Going to be another scorcher! We topped at 107 yesterday.
People are indeed, stupid! It's a testament to the wonderful wild animals, that more stupid humans aren't injured or killed!

As per Mel's experience, my handyman is having a challenging time with my kitchen faucet! It was installed too close to the back wall and, short of complete remodel with cabinet replacement, I'm stuck with the distance. Bought a new American Standard faucet, as the Costco one Mel installed about 10 years ago, was leaking inside and no replacement parts from China! Sean got faucet in and went to hook up water, and discovered a adapter is needed to reduce fittings size. Not included with new faucet or mentioned in directions nor was it needed last time! So I'm currently with no water in kitchen as Sean finally had to leave yesterday for a family event. Hopefully he will be back with adapters today. So, poor son Chris, had to order a pizza delivery! Lol. I had my usual ground beef steak. Chris's bedroom has always been much warmer in summer than rest of house, and has one wall completely exposed to summer afternoon sun. So I got this idea to hang a shade out a few inches to block afternoon sun. Sean got that done yesterday with shades I had picked up at Home Depot. We shall see how it helps today on this very hot day.
I'm fighting a knee I managed to irritate Wednesday doing my online Curves workout, so not getting as much accomplished as I planned.
Have a safe weekend everyone!

Good morning, my iPad went ker-plunk. I now have a new iPad, then couldn’t sign on. But, Brilliant Beth fixed my brain, so, here I am.
I saw that video of the idiot woman getting tossed by thrBison. Yes, many people are idiots!
I just finished a book by Nora Roberts. I don’t usually read her. However, I was desperate during the no iPad days. The name of the book was Black Hills. What made it enjoyable to me was the fact that the main character started and opened a wildlife refuge near Deadwood. Many descriptions of characteristics of all her animals was interesting. Of course a murder occurred in Custer St. Park.!
Our weather here has been wonderful, downtown, as we get the ocean breezes.
I hear (phone call) from a friend I visited on my long (9,000) trip in 2019. She was such a good friend I was sorry to hear she is having memory problems now. She was a very smart woman.
I love my new little car. I think it is classed as a “mini SUV”. A Chevy Trax. It is perfect for driving around downtown. I turned the odometer to 100 miles yesterday. Insurance sent me little over $300 back. I have insurance through CostCo.
Judy, most people do not understand “fulltiming”. Only those who do.
It is good to be back. Lyn

Good Morning I think. Emma is at the vet this morning. She started sneezing umpteen times and rubbing her nose in her bed, carpet, etc for 20+ minutes at a time. She woke me up this morning vibrating the bed with her sneezes. So I took a video (cause ya know she wouldnt do it at the vets.) She did it some on Friday too. Got an early appt and took her in. Vet looked at the video for like 5 seconds said oh yeah I need to examine her nose. She is still there, had to undergo anesthesia to go up her nose. I have no foxtails etc in my yard so have no idea what she got into. I am doggy sitting neighbors dog so left him home, he was fine. I pick her up at 1 so hopefully they will find whatever it is that she snorted LOL

Velda I put outdoor blinds up on my front patio as the afternoon sun just beats on that side of the house. Sure did make a difference. My bedroom is also the hot spot in this house. I have a ceiling fan and a small box fan that helps cool it off for sleeping. We are going to be 109 here today, so they say. So will close up all the doors and windows, close the shutters, and pull the drapes. Like living in a cave LOL

Velda, you have me thinking about the faucet at the camp. I bought a new faucet but there is no way I could replace it. I would have to lay upside down on a shelf and try to reach the faucet behind the sink. I'm wondering if the sink could be taken out to reach the faucet. The new owner of the campground thinks he's Mr Fixit, I'll have to ask him about it. lol

I had delusions of going fishing about 10:00 this morning when the temperature was 80. After I brought a sack of cat food to the barn and mowed Sugar's yard it had warmed up to 95 so I'm in the air conditioning. My next project is to see if the box the RV place put in to make the satellite dome work would work with my Vuqube portable satellite. I finally pulled out the 2016 tax box so I could get 2019 out of the floor. I have to bring 2016 to the old house. I should probably take the oldest box and burn the papers. Being an ex-accountant it is hard to part with tax papers or maybe it's because I'm a pack-rat.

Yesterday when I picked up a lunch to go at the Deli I think they were trying to get rid of food. They loaded my container so full that I have already had 3 meals and there is still some left.

Well, August is half over. Hopefully in 2 weeks we will have some cooler temperatures but I doubt it. Maybe by the middle of September it will be cooler. Our next club campout isn't until September 24. I think I'll have to go somewhere before then.

Hope the vet figures out what is wrong with Emma. I would like to know what sets Annie off with her licking and chewing. The shot the vet gives her is like a miracle but he doesn't want to give it to her often.

Got you beat, Velda.  It was 110 yesterday afternoon on my always-in-the-shade front porch. "Cooled off" all the way down to 90 by about 11:00 p.m. Sheesh.

I'm so DONE with hot weather. Unfortunately, hot weather is not "done" with me. :?

Karen, hope that Emma is doing better by now. Please keep us posted.

Well, I got you all beat! It was 120* here yesterday! Will be cooler today at only 117*. I must be getting somewhat used to the heat now since I was out yesterday and it didn't bother me as much as usual.

Good to hear from you Lyn, again! Am glad you are enjoying your new car. I knew you would find it easier to get around town with it instead of your truck.

That woman who got attacked by the momma bison sure got a ride of her life getting spun around like she did. Even lost her pants! People are real idiots!! I would be leery to even ride a bike thru there since I wouldn't have protection from the animals like I would with a car. But to go up to a mother bison and her calf like that is pure insanity! She is lucky to be alive!

I sure hope Emma is gonna be OK. Poor thing!

I fell asleep OK late last night but woke up around 3:30 and couldn't get back to sleep for 2 hours after that. I usually sleep so sound all night so not sure what is going on lately. Did get some reading done in that 2 hours. FInally gave up on the tossing and turning and grabbed a book. That usually relaxes me enough to get back to sleep.

My bedroom is the coolest room in the house so that is why I spend a lot of time in there. My living room faces west so that is why it is so warm in there and is the furthest room from the AC. Plus the back wall is all windows from floor to ceiling. I have shades on the windows which help but still no enough to keep the heat out. These park models are not very well insulated, especially the windows. I just have single pane windows in here. (The new porch addition actually has double pane windows! ).

I need to get up and make something to eat so I can take my antibiotic. Need to take it on a full stomach. Then head over to the library before they close at 2pm.

Have a good day!

Lyn, even after I tell people I live full-time in my motorhome, I still have them ask when I am going to head home.

I have the regular small awning for my motorhome. Now that I am back in the west, it is not enough. My big problem is the back of the refrigerator often is in the hot sun. Also, I was going to head to Camping World to get a side curtain or an extension for the front, but they charge an arm and a leg. Some time ago, I bought what they call speaker fabric and made a sun screen to keep the glare out of my front window during the day. (The fabric is black mesh, much like the black mesh MCD shades I have. It shades, but you can see through it.) So tomorrow when I leave here to go back to Hood Park, I am going to stop by JoAnn Fabrics and get some. I will cut a piece the width of my awning and maybe 3' deep, and then I will use my iron to make a top and bottom seam with that iron-on bonding stuff. On the top I will put some grommets and use hooks to hang it.

With the fabric left over, I am going to make something to hang from hooks over the back of my refrigerator to shade it during really hot days. Will take photos when done with this project.

Lyn, I'm glad I was able to help. You've been missed. Having that new, smaller vehicle sounds awesome.

I seem to always be in areas with too high winds for my awning to be out much. When I boondock I usually park with my rig facing north, which puts my fridge facing east and not getting the hot sun. (My solar panels are on the back section of my roof, which then faces south. Perfect for both my panels and the fridge.) Where I am here, I get too much sun on my fridge so I do try to have the awning out when possible and I'm home. I never leave it out. At cg's choices aren't as easily made.

Karen, I hope Emma is fine. Please let us know.

Martha, it was impossible for me to change my faucet in this motorhome. Someone in the cg parked near me heard about it and did it blind. Yep, totally by feel. I could never have done that. It's been a couple years now and still working. I was lucky with that neighbor!

I've accomplished nothing today. And it'll probably stay that way. No complaints LOL

Judy, those mesh panals you are talking about, that is what I have on my living room windows on the outside. Most people here, have those on all their windows in the summer especially if they are gone all summer.

I went to the library and noticed there are huge thunderheads to the west and north of me over the mountains and look like they are dumping a lot of rain. Probably won't get here tho, but they really need it in the mountains right now! I hope they are getting some of that up where the fires are north of LA. That would be a huge blessing! (as long as there are no lightning strikes! :o )

Well, it looks like I will be taking a road trip to Oregon next month! Yay! Candiss's friend was so happy and relieved that she doesn't have to do it now. I plan to get there in 3 days, stay for a couple days to help her unpack and get settled, and then head down the I-5 and cut over to the coast just south of San Francisco to Santa Cruz. Then take my time going down along the coast to Santa Barbara for a few days before heading home. Even if the shop is opened up by then, I have some vacation time accumulated that I can use. If any of you have ideas on places I can check out along the way back, let me know. :D

Update on Emma

Emma is home, they didnt find anything inside but was pretty inflamed so might have just been an irritant or worked it's way out. They flushed it, gave her a shot of an antiinflammatory, put her on Amoxicillin. Bill $120 I love this vet. $25 office visit, $50 for doctor procedure, $30 anesthesia, $5 for post surgical care, and Meds $10 just cant beat that. Now I do have to drive about 40 minutes but so worth it. She is sleeping next to me in the recliner. She ate all her breakfast when she came home as I was glad she couldnt eat it this morning because she was constantly sneezing. They didnt have to intubate her they just gave her something in her IV (we call it conscious sedation). All is well in my house for now.

So glad to hear Emma is OK. That is a very reasonable vet bill for all that!! I know sometimes if I get something caught in my throat and then get it out, it still feels like it is in there for awhile afterward. She probably coughed it out but still felt like it was there.

sounds really reasonable and glad that Emma is feeling better...
I saw where a women went out in the bison herd but didn't watch or read... just shook my head... I don't know how one gets it across to people that animals aren't to be played with...
then there are the knuckleheads that would put a hand or a foot in the hot pools to see if they were hot well yes!!!
we used to hear lots of crazy things that people would do
I actually think it got better then started up worse again... guess they just have to prove it to themselves... unfortunately it's the animal in a lot of instants that gets hurt
did I do anything today not that I saw could have gone huckleberry picking but my bending over for very long isn't happening hope they got lots though..
have my Swedish Weave were I will start the ending phase which covers a lot of area... had to count and see if I had enough room for another row of diamonds did not....but will have a healthy row of fringe. and finished another book for what it's worth I've been getting a bunch of books read...when I left Q I dropped off all my read books at a friends she said I will never get them all read now she is glad that I did drop off that many when I go back will do the same take what I have managed to read to her and then they will go to the parks library
and I will check the shelves and see if I can find any of the "rest of the series" that I may want to read...
that will be a fun trip Barbie...
I have a curtain up in the back of the 5th wheel always wanted to do something to it... it replaced what they had in the trailer when we got it... when we were at the camp hosting I bought some material for the over grown picnic table we didn't make it back and that piece of material has been waiting to be used if I can find the big grommets that will fit the hanger that is up I may use it there..and use other material for the other windows from the colors that is in it... but have no idea how to use grommets that are as big as these are
you all have a pleasant day
