Wet Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wet Thursday

Postby Irmi » Thu Aug 13, 2020 3:39 pm

Hello ladies!

Morning is over and it won't be long before I'll be putting dinner on, which will be crab cakes and a salad. We got our fourth half bushel of steamed crabs a few days ago and what we didn't eat at the crab feast got picked and we ended up with another three pounds of crab meat. We never tire of crab cakes, crab imperial or cream of crab soup. So come on over if you're in the mood for MD crab cakes.

We had a couple hours of down pours this morning but right now we're having a lull, but it looks like more rain is in store for us later tonight and again tomorrow. After the rain we had last week with the hurricane, we really don't need anymore rain.

Clothes are in the dryer so I need to tend to them. I'm sorry so many of you are having such a hot summer. We've had our share of 90+ temperatures but compared to some of you, it really wasn't that bad. Beth, I'm glad this will be your last summer in Keystone and looking forward to the next adventures in your life. Stay safe everyone!

Lucky you with the rain. Our last good rain here, if I remember correctly, was mid-May. We probably won't have any more rain here - at all - until late October/early November.

If we are lucky. . .

Extremely dry - and extremely roasty-toasty - for the next week or so here in the San Joaquin valley of northern California, near Sacramento:

104 - Thursday (today)
108 - Friday
111 - Saturday
110 - Sunday
111 - Monday
112 - Tuesday (extra toasty!)
110 - Wednesday
106 - Thursday
103 - Friday
101 - Saturday

My AC struggles a bit when the temps get above about 105, so I set the thermostat for 85 so the AC doesn't have to work so hard. Wildfire is always a worry, too, with temps like these. The foothills are bone-dry. One can only hope that there isn't another Paradise-style incident before the rains come. October is generally California's worst month for wildfire. :?

Of course, many bad fires here already. Barbie, are you getting any smoke from the Apple Fire?

We had a lot of smoke here from the Apple fire when it first started. As it moved further northeast, the smoke went up into the Morongo Basin on the other side of the mountains behind me. It is 80% contained now which is good. The Lake fire that started yesterday north of LA grew to 10,000+ acres in just 5 hours but hasn't made a lot more progress since then, which is really good. That smoke will head towards Barstow.

Very hot here as well, in the mid 100 teens. It is overcast today which is very rare but keeps it feeling a little better without the sun beating down.

Got a UTI so went to Virtuwell to get a prescription for that. Am also starting on a natural cranberry suppliment to help prevent those. All part of my hormone imbalance issues.

Been investigating my unemployment situation today. Their webpage says they have made 2 payments to me but I don't know where the money is. I have a debit card from them I had from last spring but there is nothing on that. I had also recently signed up to have the money deposited into my checking account but haven't seen anything added in there either. I sent them a message about it so will see what they say. I have $1020 coming to me so far. :(

I also need to find out what is going on with my health insurance. I was taken off my original insurance plan thru ACA when I got furlowed and was automatically put on Covered California which is also part of ACA, But then got a letter from them saying I don't make enough money to be on that so I will be put on MediCal. However I never got anything sent to me about that like they said I would, so I need to find out who to call about that and get that straightened out. I need to be on something! Still need to find dental insurance as well.

Got a few Amazon packages today including a couple books so will start reading those. Don't feel good enough to do much else.

Have a good evening!

I am in Washington State, near where the Columbia River is joined by the Snake RIver. Temps have been reasonable in high 80s or low 90s, but they are expected to zoom up on Saturday:

Saturday 100 66
Sunday 108 61
Monday 107 71
Tuesday 104 71
Wednesday 95 64
Thursday 93 64

Seems every time I check, the numbers go up! Luckily, the humidity is low. The only thing is that other than Friday night and Saturday night, I will be here at Hood Park, which is mostly shady. I picked a spot there my nose and satellite dish are poking out, but i get afternoon shade, so am hoping it will be bearable. All of you know how hot these RVs can get and how poorly the AC cools you off.

Friday and Saturday I will be in a sunny commercial campground and will be doing 4-5 loads of laundry! Can't spend the weekend here because campground is full. Headed south and higher in elevation on the 30th, but until then, I am stuck here!!! Hope it starts cooling off in early Sept!!! For all of us!!!

Getting frustrated! I had my prescription sent to WM where I get my other prescription filled. They said they can't fill it without my having insurance. I told them what my situation is and that I am willing to pay out of pocket. They said I am probably on Medical but need numbers which I don't have since I never got any info or card. They said they can't let me pay out of pocket. So to call Medical to get the info they need. Well, it is after 6pm so Medical is closed for the day. So they said to try CVS and they can send the prescription there. I called CVS and they said I can pay out of pocket so am waiting for them to get the prescription from WM and fill it. I was told about a website where I can get a coupon for it so am hoping that will work. $15 instead of $50. What a bunch of crap to go thru! I would wait until tomorrow but am in a lot of pain.

Yum, Irmi. I know your crab cakes have to be better than the store ones I buy. That said, I fix them often.

Tomorrow is another 5 a.m. day for me. So I'm typing this in bed hoping I'll fall asleep early. After 95 here yesterday and 90 today it looks like only the upper 70's tomorrow. That's very welcome.

It was wet here too. I didn't go see how much rain we got but it sure thundered and lightened a lot. I didn't do much. Found one of the DirecTv receivers wasn't working. I tried it in several rooms. Now I have to call them. I have to be in the right mood to even call them because I know they will make me mad.

I could go for some crab cakes. We had boiled crabs and shrimp at the last campout. One of the ladies showed us how to crab in the Gulf but we ended up having to buy some more crabs. They are so expensive in a restaurant that I will probably be good for a while.

Barbie, hope you got your prescription filled. That has gotten to be a circus. I have to get a prescription filled at Walmart for Sugar. I think the medicine would be $50 without the coupon the vet printed for me. With the coupon It's $21. I need to ask the vet what birthday he gave them. The label clearly says "canine" and I tell them it's for my dog. They have to check my phone number because I don't know her birthday.

My 97 and 98 temperatures aren't that bad compared to California. It's been a few years since it's been 104.

Well, I was able to get my prescription from Walgreens (they had a better coupon than CVS) for $12 luckily! Not sure yet why WM couldn't have done that for me. Will be calling Medi-Cal tomorrow for sure.

Got home just in time for Gunsmoke. All my other shows I like the watch are not on during the summer so this is the only one I watch at all!

I bought a few packs of anti-bacterial wipes since they are hard to find. They are the best smelling ones I have ever bought! They have a mild sweet smell and no alcohol smell at all. I had bought some lavender ones at WM awhile back and they are just awful smelling! I think I will get some more of these just to have them on hand. Like I said, they are really hard to find so I will just hoard them! Lol!

I got a good nights sleep last night after taking something to relax me. Will do the same tonight.

Barbie, I would love to have the brand and name of your wipes! I have big containers of Chlorox wipes, but I really need some smaller packs.

Temperature prediction for yesterday (Thursday) was 104. I went out to check my outdoor thermometer (which is always in the shade) and it read 106 at 3:00 p.m. Whew.

Supposed to be 108 or maybe 109 today. I guess today will be another "inside" day, although I was up earlier than usual (for me) about 6:00 a.m. and puttered around the yard a bit and tossed the Kong for Joe. It was probably about 79 or 80 at 6:00. Not really cool, but pleasant enough to be outside, at least for a little while.

Have started a major clean-out of my garage (there is crap in there literally stacked to the rafters from when I moved from the foothills a few years back) - haven't looked at any of it since I moved.

My least-favorite job: sorting through old memories.

I'm never good at this kind of thing, but it is something to do in my "spare time".

Of course, can't spend much time in the garage during this heat wave, it gets super hot in there, especially during a heat wave. Maybe I'll get back on it next week.

I know, excuses, excuses. :?

Judy, the packs I got at CVS are called G & Y antibacterial handwipes. You can also order them from Walmart. I haven't seen them in their stores but maybe they have them in some stores.

Ann, I need to clean up my porch too but just way too hot! I put all my Amazon boxes out there before I cut them up and dispose of them. They are stacked up out there now because it is too hot to go out and cut them up. No end in sight for our current heat wave either. Can't wait for August to be over!

I'll second that "Can't wait for August to be over". I'll also say "Can't wait for September and October to be over, too". Maybe by November some cool temps will come in here. Maybe. . .

I am accumulating quite a supply of delivery boxes myself. I'm not cutting them up - I'm just breaking them down so they are flat. Probably in a while I'll put an ad on Craig's List for "free moving boxes" (thus - hopefully - recycling them).

At the moment, it seems that those that can afford to are leaving California. There seems to be quite an exodus.

I have been tracking prices in Klamath Falls for the last couple of years, in the last few months (since the Pandemic got roaring) prices in KF are up about 20% across the board, and on Zillow there are more "pending" listings in KF than there are "for sale" listing.

I may have missed my chance. . .

Karen, what are you seeing in your area?

My aunt's house in a gated community up in the mountains of northeast Georgia was on the market for three years with very few bites, even though we dropped the prices to 60% of what it had cost to build in 2000. With the Covid 19 virus, we started to get a ton of interest and it finally sold. We were told that people were moving from the Atlanta area to isolated mountainous places.

Yes, the exodus from the cities seems to be happening all over for those that can afford it. People that can work remotely - thus still have jobs - are jumping at the chance to get out of big cities.

I have also been reading that something like 25% of all mortgages - nationally - missed their July (and now probably their August) - payments.

Not good.
