Tuesday After the Storms

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Tuesday After the Storms

Postby IrishIroamed » Tue Aug 11, 2020 10:25 am

Mornin ladies~~~

The derecho winds have made a mess of the heartland. NE, IA, IL, IN and possibly OH too. I battered down the hatches and high tailed it to Dad's. The camper survived best I can tell but there is still no power in the campground. Good thing I didn't get rid of my cooler with all the trips to Goodwill lately. I've turned power off at the post, turned off the battery, etc. I don't want to take a chance on a big power surge when it does come back on. No water either.

It's been another rough week $$$wise. The GPS in the Ford decided to take its own trip. Parts for that will hopefully be here tomorrow. Will hit the road next Tuesday, but will still be in IL for the first 2 weeks.

Have a good day ladies.

Goodness Cheryl, you’ve been having a rough time lately, but you don’t let it get you down. I was sorry to read that your mother had died and all the loneliness at the end. This is a difficult time for so many of us, but we have each other to lift us up when we’re down. Big hug for you. Keep smiling behind your mask and washing your hands, everybody. Peggy

Wow! I never heard of derecho winds before! Just went to read about it and it sounds similar to an inland hurricane! Sure was lots of damage in it's path! Cheryl, I am glad you are OK and hopefully your trailer came thru unscathed! That must have been really scary! Was there any warning for it coming?

Didn't get to sleep until around 2:30am and woke up at 9:30, so I still got my usual 7 hours in. That is my norm. I need to get stuff done today. Will take some laundry over to wash. The heat is coming back this week so need to get that done before then. Can't wait until they reopen the laundry room on my street in September!

Have a good day and don't get swept away by the winds!

Illinois gets about 3 visits from derecho winds a year according to a Chicago weatherman. Warnings usually come in the weather reports, unless really severe weather starts to occur. And Martha is a good weather warner too. :D These thunderstorms are also known to spawn tornadoes. Just read a small one formed yesterday in Chicago and then changed to a water spout when it hit Lake Michigan. Still 388K customers in Chicago, including Dad, without power. No clue how many still without power where I am.

Lots of trees down at my gf's in Iowa. I think she thought she'd moved back to the gulf coast of Texas where she lived for a number of years.

Ty survived his chocolate fiasco. Probably better than me. I wouldn't have handled making the mistake of that being so easily in his reach had the outcome been otherwise. Lots of laundry to do at some point. I was planning to toss that comforter at the end of my season here, so just did so early. I don't buy expensive ones and this one had already outlasted my projected expectancy for it.

It seems there are more bikes today than any previous day. Tomorrow and Thursday, if previous years are followed, things will be slowing down. Since this year has not followed any pattern, I have no clue what to expect next week.

Barbie, I wish I got 7 hours sleep last night. Ty drank so much water to help relieve himself of the chocolate that while he felt considerably better after 11, he woke me at least 3 times to go out and pee. Totally unlike him, but understandable. And, of course, I got right up each time. Morning came and my eyes felt like they had flew in them lol

Glad Ty is feeling better. On the last camping trip the campground was full of little dead crabs. If Sugar found one she would either roll on it or eat it if I didn't see it. After the saga of her eating the dead bird I was afraid she would get sick again but she didn't.

It stormed at the house when I went to town. It rained an inch here and hardly any in town. I thought I was going to pass out at Walmart with my mask on waiting to check out. One lane had a woman with 2 baskets of things and the other had 3 women shopping together and paying separately plus one with the coupon for baby stuff.

The cats broke the cord for the roman shade in my office. They had already shredded the lining. I need a new one in burgundy. It's hard to tell what color they are on line and the fancy names they come up with don't help. It looks like Biking Red might be burgundy. Why can't they just say burgundy. I may just take the old one down and see if I can fix it.

Has anyone ever heard of Adult Vitelliform Macula Dystrophy? I noticed a few months ago that if I looked at a line or pole with my left eye it would bend to the right. My eye doctor did some kind of scan on my eyes and that's what I have in my left eye. It's a defect in the retina and there is no cure for it. I could lose the sight in my left eye. My internet search says that it is usually found when a person is in their forties or fifties. Since it showed up so late for me maybe I will out live the progression.

I am glad that Ty is feeling much better and hope Beth that you will get to rest up... Shadow doesn't tell me when he needs to go out and when does need to go he pretty much makes it to the pee pads...will be glad when I feel like I can walk him a bit further but hesitate to while I am still using the walking stick he doesn't see well enough to trust that he will not tangle up in my feet and I am not itching to fall again...any time soon
worked on the Swedish weave for a bit right now it is doing the diamonds which is not hard but nothing one can get lax on...I ended up the other day having to send a picture to my friend who introduced me to Swedish Weave and say help... couldn't for the life of me figure out why it wasn't working (doing the diamonds) took her like 2 seconds to see my problem!! need to put a note on that pattern so if I do it again won't make the same error ....
wow was totally amazed at the pictures that were posted on the damage done most of the pictures were in IA I need to call my SIL and make sure that they fared ok as well as their two boys... which are in towns that right now can't remember the name of one in IA the other in Ill.

Wow Cheryl, storms and bad weather seem to follow you. I hope the electricity comes back on soon. It was a week before ours was restored when we had an derecho here in Southern Illinois May of 2008. We walked out to a completely changed landscape. The street we live on is filled with huge trees and at least 1/4 of them were down. The picture below is of the street in front of our house. It had been cleared just beyond our house. When we first went out you couldn't see the road. We lost a huge Hackberry tree in
our back yard along with several others on our property.

It seems so strange to me that I grew up in Minnesota and have never heard of these derechos. But then again, I never new that big storm systems (other than hurricanes) had names. And I have always been fascinated by weather and was always paying attention to what was happening with it. The girls at work would always tease me because I was always talking about what the weather was doing. I guess our weather guys were not on top of things up there! :roll
