Income Tax Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Income Tax Tuesday

Postby JudyJB » Tue Jul 14, 2020 12:21 pm

Yes, I know it is due tomorrow, but this is the day we people who have put it off do our taxes! I got mine almost done yesterday, so just need to review everything today and then send it off tomorrow. (One will be electronic and other manually in the mail.)

I slept much better last night and am off to dump my tanks today and to visit the Lake Peck Dam museum and powerhouse, which is supposed to be open now. Then do my taxes and start on some oral presentations for students. Since I have a small class, might even have time for reading!!

I probably just pissed off a new employee. All about dogs lol. I just can't keep my mouth shut. She asked why I don't shave Ty after she discovered he sheds. Shaving most dogs is a no-no. Not all, I agree, but if you don't know which is ok with, you don't do it. And if you don't know why it's bad, don't do it. And then don't tell me you do it for YOU.. Not for the dog because you don't want to deal with shedding. If you don't know, some breeds fur may or may not grow back and for most dogs, shaving them will make them hotter and even sunburn. Today most groomers don't even know what's right or wrong, or don't care, or haven't been trained properly. Sad.

Ok, I'll stop. But it's a pet peeve of mine.

Twas cooler today, but did get about 5 degrees warmer than predicted and will start back up tomorrow.

Judy, I got a refund, so had my taxes in a long time ago lol... I actually waited longer than usual because I thought I'd be paying, so that refund was a pleasant surprise.

I had my taxes done in early April. I knew they were not due til July but I like to get things over with. I didn't have to pay this year for a change.

Just got back from a great camping weekend. We social distanced very well. This park has very large spots so easy for 8 or so of us to circle our chairs and still keep a distance. We didnt have a potluck but had chips, salsa, queso, cake, fruit.............happy hour snacks. I lucked out big time because one of the gals loves to fish and she and her partner and a couple of friends went out in her boat every day and she brought me the most beautiful trout ......on a daily basis. She kept the bigger ones to smoke and gave me the others that are very respectable size I think.

I am going up to the Salem area next weekend to visit Laura (my BFF). I am leaving Emma with a neighbor couple as I have never left her since I got her but I do watch their dog frequently. They get along great and they are so excited to have Emma. I think it will be good for her. (me not so much). But it is only for 2 days so a good test. And she loves Rich and Barney (the dog). I totally trust them as they have a fenced yard and are very dialed in to safety. I usually take Emma when I go up to Laura's but this way we can be gone all day and not have to worry. Her cat and Emma get along great so that isnt a problem.

Beth, I know so many groomers. Most know that dogs that shed don’t need to be shaved down IF pet owners would care for the coats between appointments. They all have stories even about owners who will say they don’t want their dogs shaved but then only bring them in every 4 months so that the mats are right to the skin and too tight to be brushed out. Many dogs aren’t brushed out between appointments even when the groomer try to educate the owners. Or owners wait too long between appointments. If an owner isn’t able to manage the coat between appointments....very few want to spend the extra money a groomer would need to cover the time and effort it would take to groom the dogs. And the dogs that actually need to be clipper like the poodles and doodles......still would be much healthier if they were brushed out betweeen. There are situations that bring groomers to tears. They are professionals. They try to educate owners. They try to keep dogs healthy. They also know that if they don’t shave some of the dogs down whenrequested by the owners....the owners will just go down the road and give the money to someone else. I remember a potential puppy owner asking my about and English Cocker puppy and if they shed. My response was depends on how much you brush them. They more you keep them brushed the less they will shed in the house....

Oh, Tina, I know. It's just maddening to me on all sides. I took my Moxie for a bath... Specifically said, don't cut a hair on her! She loved baths, so it was really a treat for her. She was a purebred American Eskimo. I picked her up and she'd had her entire belly and chest shaved and she was shaking and wanted out. I don't know what they'd done that scared her, but she never would set foot in that building again. And that was bad because her vet was there. Worse, she Loved winter... Lived for the ice and snow. Guess what? Winter came and she hadn't grown fur back on her belly and almost none on her chest. I had to strictly limit her outside time that winter and the next. The girl told me, I just was doing you a favor... You know these dogs get mats. I asked if she found a single mat on her. Nope, not one. I brushed her daily. She loved being brushed. I always intended to have a sweater made from her beautiful white fur, but never saved any.

And, Tina, you're seeing different groomers than I see. Probably because you're in a different circle in the dog world. But I'll ask groomers what dogs shouldn't be shaved and have had a great percentage tell me it's ok to shave all dogs. I realize there are good groomers. Unfortunately, there are many untrained groomers out there. But the biggest problem are the dog's owners.

I think I brought my tax papers in before they extended the date. I didn't hear from the CPA until about the first of June and sent the returns off. I had some estimates I didn't have to pay until July 15 but got tired of looking at them so paid them too. I got a whole $10 back from the state. I don't know why because I have to pay estimates.

I went to the grocery store and the feed store today and wore my mask. Everyone at the grocery store was wearing a mask and I was the only one wearing one at the feed store. I don't know what was up with them because supposedly places can be fined for not wearing masks. I kept having to take off my glasses because they were fogging up.

The meet up group that I was eating out with scheduled something for Thursday. I don't think I am ready to do that yet. The email says only 8 can go. I'm not sure what the rules are for restaurants now. I would sure like to go somewhere but not with people I don't know very well.

Beth I understand......When I go into any of the Petsmarts that have grooming centers, I glance at what I see going on and am most always saddened inside for the lack of experience I see. You are right, most of the groomers I know are individuals involve also in showing or breeding. They understand what the breed standards are for each breed and what the purpose and function that breeds were original bred for...the function of that coat.....

Beth. . . I guess I'm a bit flummoxed on this one. Er. . . don't most all dogs shed? (well, no - poodles and their like don't shed, of course).

My Joe is what is called a "smooth coated" breed. Which basically means his coat is very short. How short? Oh, I dunno. . . hairs about 1/4 inch long or so? (Joe doesn't have "fur" in the traditional sense, nor does he have an undercoat - just individual hairs, some longer than others). LOL. Does Joe shed? Well, yeah! All. The. Time. - particularly in the spring (sheds "winter" coat) and the fall (sheds "summer" coat). You wouldn't think that he sheds at all by looking at him - but dryer lint tells the tale! More dog hair in dryer lint than regular lint!

(Someday I want to write a humorous memoir in the style of Erma Bombeck. I will title it "Dead Fleas In The Dryer Lint". Heh 8-) )

I can't imagine shaving Joe because he sheds. If he was shaved, then he would be practically bald - and, for sure, he would sunburn. In fact, I mostly have to keep him indoors during the summer because he does sunburn on his more exposed areas even so.

I can't imagine shaving a terrier-type dog like Ty either. The thing about shaving - shaving really doesn't prevent shedding - the dog will continue to shed, but the shed hair will just be shorter.

People in general do very strange things to their dogs - ostensibly for the dogs "benefit". Things like shaving, ear cropping, tail cropping, etc.

LOL. Hopefully I haven't "stepped in it" here.

my sil isn't a groomer has cut his kids hair for years and shaves his dog... I always feel bad for Koda when she gets shaved... in this case it's simply easier for them not cause of the shedding as she doesn't shed that much... she is a labdoodle I believe.... but her hair does grow back... I took Shadow to a groomers in Q first time was ok then I had him groomed when they opened up after shut down and wasn't as happy so I need to find someone here at least for the nails ect... although he is getting a bit long but then he is long haired doxie and I think what ever zipper is... he sure looks like Zipper or Zipper looks like Shadow...
still need to do something about my MIFI and still not sure what to do about tv
had a lazy day yesterday by dd and her husband went to the farm so didn't need to do anything in the apartment then today am at my mom's but my dd who works over here (she works in a bank but at home right now however they have them come in a day a week so we came over today) however she called and said she wasn't feeling well so she is in "her" room till I finish the laundry that I had started... guess mom and I won't be going on a drive... or to lunch
would like to stop at a nursery for a couple of plants to replace a couple of plants that aren't doing well...
so that is or will be my day...
