And The Heat Drags On

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

And The Heat Drags On

Postby Colliemom » Tue Jul 07, 2020 8:00 am

Morning all. Another hot day on tap here. We have been in the upper 80s to low 90s for what seems like the last 2 1/2 weeks. I know that probably sounds cool to some of you who are having a 100° temperatures, but this is out of normal for us, and too long of a stretch for this to be going on. Normal highs this time or year are around the upper 70s. Fortunately up until last night, Our lows have been going into the 60s which has made it very nice to keep windows open and or humidity levels have been low. It’s pleasant out this morning, with a bit of a breeze. Some days even when it has been hot, if there has been a breeze And a I’ve been leaving the house open. Withno humidity it hasn’t been too bad. I do have a portable air-conditioning system in here but I have been using it intermittently as this house will stay cool if it closed up. Even in the evening and 93° heat the house is been hanging around 74 or so. But we are in desperate need of rain is everything around here is extremely dry and farmers are starting to worry about their crops.

Interesting reading about the coins. I think the other thing is to is that because a lot of the businesses didn’t want to handle cash, so people are using credit cards. So money is just not flowing. I have a can that I keep in the house here, so that whenever I have change, I throw it in the can and when that cam gets full, I take it to my credit union and put us through the coin changer and credit it into my savings account. It’s surprising how much it can add up after a while and a good way to save. I just cashed in about $70 worth just before the banks shut the lobbies down.

Otherwise not much of anything going on around here. It’s too hot to work outside so I started doing some repainting up some craft projects that I have had in the basement for the past few years. They are woodpeckers that you can mount up on trees. So I’m giving them a new coat of paint and will put them outside after I am done. It’s a time-consuming project because of the different colors. But it’s a good thing to do in the hot days like this.

Martha, sounds like you had a good camping trip despite all that was going on and that it looks like the Fourth of July was really celebrate in there.

My trailer is still over at the RV place waiting to have the work done on it. They used to be an IV the other shop but I no longer doing that. They have a trailer stars for Saturday there at the moment that is the main thing that they are doing. They only have one tech that comes in a couple days a week so I have to wait until he comes in to get done but I want to do. The previous owner who lives in the facility going out of business I am the owner of the facility lives in Missouri and really doesn’t wanna have to deal with that from way out there so I think they are going to put it back on the market again. But in the meantime they are doing some repair work for people like myself who have been doing that for for the last few years have They only have one tech that comes in a couple days a week so I have to wait until he comes in to get done but I want to do. Granted it’s gonna take a while to get it done but I’m not going anywhere till the end of this month anyway.

Got to get my Day moving here. Need to water the HOA flowers which is getting to be a losing batlle. There is no water out where they are and so I have to Haul out by the bucket fulls, in my Little trailer behind my lawn tractor. They are just baking out there in the sun. And I have to keep watering mine too. I just put Some new grass seed down before this hit and I’m having a heckuva time getting that to stay growing. So better get that done before the sun starts to get up too high and get too hot. Have a great day everyone.

Just sitting around at work. I tried to open the back hatch on my Jeep this morning but couldn't get it to open. Wanted to put my trash back there to take to the dumpster so I had to open just the window and cram it thru there. Dropped it off on the way out of the park (half block away from the house), and now my car smells to high heaven! Had to keep the windows open all the way to work. I think the bag had a leak.

My car fob won't unlock my passenger door anymore either.

Sue, my plants are done for now too. There is no way to keep anything alive out here in the summer with the extreme heat. The park is also scalping the grass today so I closed all the windows in the porch this morning so all that dust doesn't come in. It gets really messy and dusty when they do that. The grass dies after that and they reseed it in the fall.

I have the weekend off (so far) so I might drive up the "hill" to Idyllwild for a day or so then. One of the guys here, his fiance was in a really bad car wreck last night so I may have to help cover his shift if he can't come in. We'll see...

Have a good day!

Sheila, yes I got my mifi through Verizon. Ours just quit a few days ago, so we're going to go to the Verizon store to get another. It's called a Verizon Jetpack. You just plug it into an electrical outlet and that's it. When you find your Jetpack on the icon on your computer, punch in your password and you're good to go. I'll let you know how we did tomorrow and I hope you do the same. Good luck.

You can also buy a used Verizon Jetpack on eBay, but you would have to pay a fee to Verizon to connect service.

I'm trying to convince myself to go to bed. My eyes are tired, so reading a book is out of the running. But my mind is racing... Not sure why. Things are going pretty smoothly at the store. Afraid typing that will be a jinx LOL. But I'm nervous still that people here aren't taking the virus seriously... Which makes it easy for me to slip up. And that gets me mad at myself. This only happens when I'm working. Not smart, I know.

You also can buy new and renewed Verizon jetpacks on Amazon.

I think I'll play solitaire for a bit. Night all.

Sheila, I remember Trudy and Molly. Sorry to hear that Molly died. Trudy had a cat too but don't remember his name.

I didn't get much done today. Waited all morning for my son to come give me a ride to pick up the motorhome. Everything is working again. We'll see how long that lasts. Our next campout is at the end of the month at Grand Isle which is way down on the Gulf. After seeing pictures of people that got the flesh eating bacteria in the gulf I don't think I will be going in the water.

It rained again this morning so everything is really wet.

In bed fairly early tonight because I am tired. Wasn't busy at work but was still a long day. Only did 5 haircuts in 8 hours.

I got stung by some more fire ants the other day while standing in the grass. One is on the inside of my foot by the arch and it is all swollen and very itchy. Have been putting Calamine lotion on it which only works for a short time before it starts itching again. Almost impossible not to scratch it! I put a cold pack on it but that did nothing for the swelling.

Have tomorrow off so will sleep in. I have bills to pay and need to get my tax stuff in order and send it to my tax gal. Running out of time for that. Should also do some laundry. The laundry room is clear on the other side of the park and with it so hot out and the long walk from the parking lot to the laundry room with a full basket won't be fun. I wish they would open the one close to me.

Lola isn't hungry today. I gave her canned food this morning which she turned down. I then put some pieces of cooked chicken on top of that which she also turned her nose up at. When I got home from work she had eaten the chicken but not the food. I gave her more chicken tonight but she didn't touch it. Normally, she scarfs that right down. Will have to keep an eye on her. She seems OK otherwise. She is laying next to me purring right now.

Good night!

Another big line of nasty thunderstorms going through. Put
My slides in and took quick shower. In bed but got clothes laid out. Like little storms. Not these.

Ok. Most of storm has passed. Now I can sleep.

I bought my Mifi Jetpack off the internet. I just inserted my sim card in the new one and it appeared on my account. No charge. So I never had to pay a fee to Verizon.

I use a Hotspot on my verizon phone to access the internet and did while I was on the road too. Always had internet access if I had phone signal. How is the Mifi better? Just curious. We live way out in the country and only access is hughes net which is LOUSY. I use my verizon hotspot and it works great. AT&T was terrible, both hotspot and phone service.

I have used the hotspot on my verizon phone once or twice to access the internet. It worked quite well. Never have had MiFi or Jetpack.

I agree 100% that HughsNet is lousey. Actually, it is worse than lousy. I also hate AT&T with a passion - I was lied to and cheated by their "customer no-service" personnel. Will NEVER do business with AT&T EVER again.

part of it is that I don't know how to do the hot spot... the advantage to the MIFI is you can have more people if needed using it at the same time which when you are alone isn't really a problem but that is one of the advantages. I don't know if this would be a problem but can you use your phone while it is a hot spot? if you can't that would be another advantage
I am not sure what I will do will have to give it more thought

I use my phone as a hot spot. Had a similar plan to a mifi once upon a time. I discovered my monthly bill was more and switched to using my phone. I can have, I believe, 5 users on my hot spot. But it's rare I give anyone the password.

Sheila, if you can figure out the mifi you could quickly figure out how to use your phone. You might have to increase the data on the phone though.

I have shared data plan, between phone and Mifi, only $10 for Mifi access so I like that. I think hotspot is the same price so guess it is what your preference is. I dont have a big data plan anymore as I only use it when camping or the power goes out LOL
