Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Saturday

Morning All, Sorry I couldn’t come up with a jazzy title. Does anyone say jazzy anymore? :D The rain has moved On and it’s a nice day. It’s a special day for me because my friend Edith emailed me a picture of a flower from her garden. It’s special because she said she was too stupid to learn new things. There are four of us, friends since first grade. The last sentence under our pictures in the yearbook said “one of four”.. We are now 84 yrs old and still 1 of 4. One has suggested we meet up (after virus) and have “1 of 4” tattooed on our ankles. All I can do is laugh thinking of us walking in a shop and the expression on the artist face. I am not having a tattoo on my wrinkled ankle. Well maybe a butterfly somewhere smooth.
Stay safe

Shirl, I feel like Edith, I don't want to learn anything new.

I mowed yesterday afternoon. I started about 2:00 when it was about 90 but it was windy. I turned the cows into the area in front of the barns. I should put a tank top on when I mow so I can get some sun on my arms. All my shirts have short sleeves so I have a farmer's tan. I have a campout in 3 weeks where they are going kayaking and tubing. If I decide to do that I will end up with a sunburn. I would like to go mow in Maurice. There were some places in my yard that are still wet so I'm pretty sure it's still muddy in Maurice. It's suppose to start raining tomorrow and rain the rest of the week. My sister was wanting to go to the lake but haven't heard more about that. I don't really like to travel on a holiday weekend.

I went to town to get my Friday fish dinner yesterday morning. They were having crawfish fettuccini and I knew if I didn't get there early they would be out. I got there at 11:00 and there was already a line. Picked up some things to make tacos. The price of beef is going out of sight. They want almost $10 for a pound of lean ground meat. The place that takes donated things isn't open but they have a place to leave things so I dropped off a bag of clothes. Glad to get that out of my car.

Sitting in a state park in Ohio, but the sites are old and muddy, and I cannot walk around without getting my shoes wet and muddy. (They really need to redo this place. Electric is only 110, no 30 amp, so cannot use AC and electric boxes look like they came from WWI.) And last night in the rain at the water fill station, I could not find the end of the hose that shuts on and off that I use for filling my tank, plus the fill tap was hard to reach--result?? Thoroughly soaked from the high pressure in the hose spraying all over the place!! Had to change clothes when I got in.

Got to talk to my son about spending a full day in his driveway parked in the middle so I can clean out all of my underneath storage and put some stuff in his basement. I need lots of pavement and to sit on my stool for a few hours--too much mud in campgrounds. When I usually spend the night in his driveway, I park way over to the side to not block vehicles, but I really need a few hours right in the middle to get access to everything. He did install my new porch light, so I have light again. The old one was not working, and the RV dealers wanted to drive my rig into their shops, which I did not want to happen--do not want anyone inside unless I really have to or I know them well. Need an oil change, but might put that off until I get to someplace with less COVID 19.

Picked up the packages I had had sent to my son's house. One was some Korean-type KN95 masks. They are extremely similar to N95 masks, but not used as often by US hospitals, so I don't feel I am taking them away from anyone, but with my weakened immune system, I will feel better going into stores for groceries. I will still use the cheap disposable ones for many places.

Martha, there’s a difference between I don’t want to learn and I am too stupid. I think you are amazing, you took are of your husband, now taking care of your property, your pet family. I would just want to relax and vegetate. Edith is an accomplished musician, has a beautifully artistically decorated home, such a fun person but spent her childhood being told she was too stupid to learn. Hope she no longer believes that. It just takes some of us longer  Sorry, one of my pet peeves “ your too stupid” ask me how I know. :D

I had similar messages when I was young too. "You won't amount to anything, etc" My dad did say something encouraging once, tho. He said "someday you'll shape up!". (my mom got me a t-shirt a few years later that said "I've Shaped Up" ) He said he didn't want to send me to college because it would just be a waste of money. (that was when I paid my own way thru Cosmetology school). Parents need to be more careful about what they say to their kids. Those remarks hurt way more than they know and the damage can last a lifetime. I still hear those voices (my brothers were very verbally abusive as well) and have to tell myself it isn't true. I still don't have a lot of confidence in myself at times, especially learning and doing new things.(ironically, I always did really well in school). It took me a long time to feel confident in my hair cutting skills.

The breeze felt good all night but is now getting very warm out so have closed up the house and have the AC on.

I accidentally stepped on Maya awhile ago! She didn't say anything but went running (limping on her back foot) under the recliner. Took me awhile to get her to come out. She seems to be walking fine now but she is mad at me. :( They don't understand that those are accidents and not intentional. She will get a lot of TLC today! She bit me when I first picked her up and I told her I had that coming!

Need to work on something constructive today. Visited with some friends earlier (with social distancing). I should make the fried rice dish for tomorrow since those things always taste better after a day or so.

Hi folks!

Shirl & Barbie, we grew up in a totally generation and I also grew up with hurt feelings because of things said to me. I'm guessing our parents may have gone through the same thing when they were being raised, but I don't know. My parents were raised in Germany and ran from the Russians during WWII and I'm sure that played on their brains, too. If it weren't for Steve, I don't know where I'd be, as he helped pull me out of the bubble I was living in, because I was scared of everything and everyone. I'm still not totally where I'd like to be and have to force myself to do things , but so much better than where I was.

We settled on the property at the motor coach resort yesterday and have a new winter home to go to for however long we decide to stay there. We met with the previous owner again today to get the key for the mailbox. As soon as they sell/move their motorhome, we will get the remote for the gate to the resort, but we have the gate key numbers so we can still get in. We're excited to go to our new winter home. But in the mean time, we will leave here Wednesday to start heading north for a few months.

I don't remember being told I was too stupid but I felt like I was sometimes. I really think I had some form of attention deficit. I always felt like I didn't know what was going on in school probably because I wan't paying attention. Both of my boys had school problems, one in math and the other in reading. I would try harder and don't tell me I couldn't do something. I would die trying. I remember being told I couldn't do things because I was a girl. That didn't go over well either.

Irmi, glad you got your property so you know you have somewhere to go next winter. I like having a lot at the lake so I know I have somewhere to go if I want to.

I went fishing for 3 hours this afternoon. It was hot but windy. It seems like it's windy every afternoon and I get tired of fighting the wind. The fish were bitting and I could have had a fish dinner if I felt like cleaning fish.

The news says the virus cases in our parish have gone up 10 cases. I wish they would say in what areas.

Irmi, You are so right, a different time and we have come a long way. I guess my thought when posting was not raking up the past but not be limited by a negative voice from the past. Edith is so proud of herself. I was so proud at 40 when a doctor I worked with showed me I was not too stupid to learn math.

woke up to snow quite a bit of it a very wet and heavy snow had a hard time pushing the door open... I was able to sweep off the bridge (ramp) but by the door I had my grandson run up and take care of it... super heavy... and it's been a drizzlely/snow day all day.. didn't even feed the birds I am sure they were grouchy about it.. there is one feeder that I bought that they didn't like in Q thought I would try it here nope even when they were out of seed they didn't use it... I think it doesn't let the seed come out so will get a different seed and see if they will that seed from there...
went and got flowers for the gravestones... but didn't go to my grandson's to help think I wouldn't be much help..
the pain in my back is down way low don't think its that nerve but not sure what I did bending over and picking something up is for the birds... another reason they didn't get feed snow on the ground moisture in the air and bad back...
cold enough today that the furnace has ran all day... and I still wrapped up in my electric throw...
those that crochet... have you ever used the moss stitch or the spider stitch? if you have which do you prefer? want to make a afghan for my grandson both stitches looked doable for some old lady that only knows one pattern...
one of the words I would not allow my kids to say was stupid!!!! it was a dirty word and they knew it and when I refer to someone being stupid now they will call me on it but I am always (I hope) careful to call the action stupid not the person doing it ... in my mind that is different
yes we did grow up in a different time in some ways better in others not...
have a great memorial day weekend
I know that we have several that served in the armed forces a big shout out to you THANK YOU

Both my parents told me they grew up in perfect and happy families. With all their issues, I highly doubt that. I had ADD in school too altho it wasn't a known thing at the time. They say the boys are more inclined to be hyper-active and girls are more jittery and also day dreamers. I was always told I was a day dreamer but also couldn't sit still for very long. Kind of the same now. I have about a 20 minute attention span which didn't work very well working at a computer all day, but works perfectly doing hair since I can start and finish a haircut in the time, and then move on to the next client. I have noticed a lot of stylists are ADD. ADD people also are more creative so that could be part of that too.

We all have things to overcome through out our lives. I think awareness of those things, is half the battle.

Irmi, am so happy that you finally got your RV space! So exciting! A big relief and one less thing to worry about in the fall when you head back to FL.

I started working on my fried rice but the frozen product I got, I didn't care for the quality of the chicken in it so took all that out. I went out to WM and got a whole cooked chicken and will shred that and add it in with the rice. I never trust the quality of meat in pre-made meals.

Today is my brother's (in MN) birthday. I decided to send him a birthday e-mail. Lots of bad feelings between us but I figured I would make a positive move.

Have a good night!

Judy, look up N95 vs KN95 on AccuMed site which has the latest CDC Guidelines for masks. KN95 is a Chinese designation for masks that are supposed to filter 95% of particles. They have been given emergency approval for use by health care when no N95 are available. KN does not stand for Korean. Thev article has interesting info on other mask designations as well.

Holy moley, look at those prices! When the first "Wuhan Whispers" began filtering in (January! My receipt says January 28) I went out and bought a few (six, I think) N-95 masks. They were two masks in a package for $3.99. At the time, I thought that was pretty expensive. . . :(

Had my 'foresight' been a bit better, I would have bought a lot more of them. . . No sight like hindsight. . .

They are thick and sturdy - and I have been "recycling" them. My driveway faces south, the inside of my car gets up to probably 160 degrees F even on a cool sunny day. I put the 'used' masks in a zip-lock bag and put them on the rear deck of my sedan - in full sun. I leave them there for a week or so, turning them over once or twice (so that the inside as well as the outside of the mask 'sees' full-sun UV).

Heat + UV + time.

I had bought one N95 mask at Quartzsite to use for my gourd art. I ended up giving to my friend Candiss a couple months ago because she has health issues and I thought it would be better for her to have it rather than just a homemade cotton mask.

The masks I made I discovered need some tweaking. They are too tight on my nose making it hard to breathe so I need to figure something out to make more room in it.
