It’s Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

It’s Friday

Postby Othersharon » Fri May 22, 2020 11:29 am

Just after noon here so it’s lunchtime. Not much in the frig right now since I still haven’t gone to the store! But I’m sure I can find something! It’s been a lazy week of cooking!
I just attended a funeral service via Zoom for my best friend’s MIL. A very strange feeling to not be able to actually be there. But on the other hand it’s pretty amazing to be able to access it on my phone with just a few clicks.
The rain just started and looks like it’ll be an all day event but tomorrow the temps are forecasted to start going up into the 70’s! I can hardly wait! Rascal got his much needed haircut yesterday so he’ll be much more comfortable. Now if the hair salons could just open! Maybe I’ll get to keep the appointment I already scheduled for the first week of June.
Tina, interesting comment about the kids being able to show their livestock even though your fair was also cancelled. Wonder if they’ll be able to do something like that here. Guess we’ll just wait and see.
I managed to make reservations last night at a COE campground last night for the middle of July. My friends had already made theirs and asked me to join them. Since this is usually a hard cg to get into we feel lucky to have gotten in. Seems some of these places are opening slowly depending on the status of their counties. So guess for sure I need to dewinterize! I was still back and forth on if I would do it or not!
So that’s about it for me today. Need to run the vacuum this afternoon so guess I should get to it! Have a good day and stay safe.

It's still morning here in northern California. Headed into another warm day, with predictions we may see our first triple digit day this next few days to a week. I finally get to see my chiropractor this afternoon! Much needed relief, after not seeing him since January !
Saw new eye Dr Wednesday, and he seems ok, but reserving judgement until I see how well he fixes my left eye. He looked at my right and said he believed the RX on the lens implant is right and the problem was scarring and wrinkling of the back of the lens capsule, which usually only happens 6-12 months or longer after cataract surgery, but can happen almost immediately in a rare few after cataract surgery. Apparently I'm one of those people and had significant scarring, because, as I told him this eye just hasn't seen quite crisp clear since surgery. He said he could fix it with YAG laser, so I said, how soon? He called in his assistant and she confirmed he had time, so after numbing drops, he put a special gel filled contact lens on my eye and zapped away. Done in seconds. Took longer to get ready and clean up gel after than for the actual treatment. So I got to drive home with my better eye completely blurry, which was fun! But I'm less than 1.5 miles on mostly neighborhood streets from his office, so I got home and mostly rested while my dilated eyes came back to normal. By that evening, I could tell I can see better out of right eye. In fact yesterday I never picked up reading glasses even once. I had been relying on them quite heavily. Now to see how he can improve the left eye after right heals and settles. The whole YAG laser thing is really no big deal. I know someone here was apprehensive about it, but don't be, it's easy.
I allowed my son to go with me to store for the first times since February yesterday. Because of his disabilities, he has trouble remembering not to touch stuff and I've been concerned over his safety, so we went to our nearby grocery where there are fewer people and no furniture for him to want to sit on. He was so excited to get out and help choose food. Bonus was, store restricts to 2 packages meat, so he bought 2 on his credit card and I bought 2, and the store had no issue with that. Helps me not have to go back as soon. We got hot dogs for holiday weekend, which he requested.
Last night I did something different. I had accidentally picked up a London Broil steak instead of a chuck roast a few weeks ago. I noticed when I went to get it from freezer. I had planned to pressure cook the chuck, but when I noticed it was London Broil, I changed plans. I thawed it, then dropped it in ziplock with red wine, garlic, and some Montreal steak seasoning. Let it sit 48 hours, though 24 would have been fine, I had a change of plans which pushed ot to 2days. Last night I heated my cast iron skillet and my toaster convection oven. I poured off the wine and blotted the steak dry. I seared the first side of the London Broil and when it was well seared, I flipped it and put in oven at 400 degrees. Took about 25 min to reach the 120 internal temp I wanted. It sliced very nice and was very tender and juicy. Even my son, who often has texture issues liked it! It's a definite do again.
I have no specific plans for trips yet, but hope by late summer to do a weekend or two. Work continues on my house, catching up on delayed maintenance.
Have a good day.

Lots of excitement here this morning! The crew came by to clean up my palm tree! Yay! Took about an hour to pull down all the fronds on the top half of the tree. What a mess! They just hauled away half of the pile and will be back for the rest of the pile and clean up the yards. Some of the fronds came down on my nieghbor's RV roof so those need to get removed. I took some pics and video so will post that later.

Still in my pj's! I ran out there when they came and didn't have time to change into regular clothes. I need to clean myself up now and get dressed because I have to take Maya to her vet check-up in a while. That reminds me, I should move my Jeep before they block the driveway again with the shredding truck...

...just went out to move it and the big truck showed up right after. Good timing!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I spent the night last night in my son's driveway, and borrowed his car this morning to go to the dentist to get a tooth prepped for a new crown. The old one was 30 years old and it had had a cavity way back then just at the gum line, plus a root canal, but my gums have receded, leading a lot of space around and under the edges to catch food, which has been driving me nuts, so glad to get it done. New crown is going to be interesting as it will have to be higher up on my gum on one side. Also drove to doctor to get blood work done. Now just need a cat scan on Wednesday.

When I was in the midst of cleaning out my aunt's house, I was just tossing stuff into my motorhome. So tonight, I left their place for a state park and just spent four hours cleaning out a bin I keep in front of the passenger seat and the space under the front console where I toss stuff. Trying to put stuff away and toss what I don't need. I had brought some old fishing poles and stuff for my son, who is going to hang them on the wall for decoration. I also brought him a lamp made out of a duck decoy and let him choose two other ducks,. He chose two brass ones, and then I gave each of my granddaughters, aged 11 and 12, two dancing lady figurines, which they really loved. Grandson got his pick of another duck. Rest is packed up again to take to California to let son there take his pick. I have some other stuff I will have to put in storage in Ohio son's basement until I get an apartment or condo again.

Tomorrow I catch up on teaching stuff and then head to condo on Lake Erie on Sunday. Then back to another state park for ten days and some motorhome maintenance. Want to get a new windshield and oil change, plus get a new backup camera. Will get my cap on June 12, and then head north, so got lots to do from now until then, including buy a new electric bike! Whew.

Oh, mostly grown-up kitten that was so friendly in November has been following me around son's house, keeping an eye on me. She even followed me down the stairs to the basement and sat on a step watching me until I went back upstairs. She is one suspicious cat!

spent the day resting my back has been bothering me more today...
tomorrow I need to figure out where to get some flowers at for the cemetery. have 9 graves to decorate
takes a lot of flowers mom usually brings a pot of mums for each grave...plus some fresh flowers I think as she comes with someone else so not sure where the other flowers come from... it's going to be different this weekend we normally meet together on Sunday decorate the graves and go have a big pot luck but with the no more than 10 together not having the potluck I guess I was opening that we could get together with mom as her children and children in law but haven't heard what anyone wants to do...
I haven't even put stuff away... need to do that but bending hurts standing hurts so we sit or lay can't put stuff away in that position
just talked to my mom guess my brother is coming in tomorrow and leaving Sunday after being at the cemetery... his wife has asthma and allergy's and his daughter is disabled so I am sure he wants to keep them as safe as possible...
it's suppose to get cold tonight perhaps even snow tomorrow didn't have as much rain today as was predicted but according to the weather channel on the phone it's going to rain from now on through out the night... which means taking Shadow out in the rain yuck hate that but way to early to take him out now
you all have a good weekend

Am so glad they got my tree cleaned up. The wind is crazy gusty tonight! Now I don't have to worry about all that stuff coming down. The dust it left behind from the work is all over everything but a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Brought Maya to the vet for her 2:30 appointment. They took her into the office to keep her cool since it was close to 100* outside, but owners had to stay outside to wait...2 hours for me! I sat in a plastic chair in the grass in the shade and all of sudden the whole chair fell backwards with me in it! There was a mole hole in the grass where one of the legs was near and down it went! Luckily I didn't get hurt but was hard to get back up off the ground! I was around the corner from the other people waiting so no one saw me. I moved the chair to another spot. Maya was eventually brought out after getting her first shots and was glad to be going home!

We took a nap when we got back. I did all my on-line classes after that so am glad that is done!

Sharon, we got off and on high winds but next to no rain from that storm. We're looking at rain tomorrow afternoon, though.

Barbie, I'm glad your results were negative. And also that the tree was taken care of. Must also be nice to have those online classes over with.

Judy. I'm glad you were able to pick some things for your family out of that whirlwind clean up. I'm so glad you are done with it and hope you can take time to relax now. Yuck on the crown. I had an accident last week with a 25 oz beer can ... Without going into detail it slipped and sailed into my upper lip. The pain was terrible and I was sure I'd lose a crown. Luckily that didn't happen. But I'm still checking that crown constantly to make sure it's not lose.

I should be sleeping to be up early tomorrow. But tell my brain that, please. Luckily I only need to be there about 5 hours.

I drove up to Deadwood today to see a friend working there. She usually comes up from Florida in August to run the tent outside our store during Sturgis. The person she works for needed help in his Deadwood store for a couple weeks and flew her up now. We still don't know if Sturgis is happening so I drove over to say hi. I saw more masks in Deadwood than I see in Keystone. She, like me, is worried about the tourists we're already seeing. I think we'll be seeing a hot spot in this area. I hope I'm wrong.

and this happened after how many beers??

I heard that Trump wants all churches to reopen right away. My minister isn't planning to open our church until 4th of July if things are going well by then. He says he would be devastated and feel extremely responsible if he opened too soon and someone in the congregation got sick and possibly died because of it. Hopefully, a lot more church leaders will feel the same and do the right thing by either staying closed or using very strict social distancing and insisting on masks being worn. There was a story on the news about a church back in March that had their choir rehearsal with no masks or social distancing. One person was infected and after that one rehearsal, almost everyone else (45 people) got infected and 2 of them died. They think the singing helped to spread the virus between them. Here is a link to the story...

Just saw on the news that by next Thursday our temps will hit 115*! Yikes! Could be a really uncomfortable summer! I have the windows open tonight because of the nice breeze. Might be the last night of that for awhile!

Judy, I find that young kittens aren't that afraid but the older they get the more suspicious they become. I took CC camping when he was a kitten and he would walk on a leash and go with anyone. The older he got the more afraid of everything he was. I finally quit taking him because I was afraid he would run out the door and I wouldn't be able to find him.

Barbie, glad you didn't get hurt from your fall. I have thought about taking a folding chair with me to the vet's. I wonder how long we are going to have to sit in the parking lot. I have a couple of cats that need to go for their annual shots but not too anxious to take them.

Beth, glad you didn't loose a tooth. I had one of those Coran sink covers slide out of a cabinet in the motorhome and hit me in the mouth. I'm lucky I didn't loose a tooth. That's when I started putting anything heavy down low.

Shiela, hope your back gets better. It took 2 months for my sciatica pain to go away. I could only take Tylenol with the medicine the doctor prescribed and neither one helped much.
