Cool Wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Cool Wednesday

Postby Shirlv » Wed Apr 22, 2020 10:41 am

Good Morning All, on the cool side this morning so covered the plants on my balcony garden. I now live on an island and a second floor apartment. There is always a breeze from the water but when it get really windy I need to move containers. I’m in the same boat as everyone else, just hanging out, eating and sleeping. I worry that I am losing my social graces. I have allergies, nose and eyes itch so I use my sleeves, the bottom of my shirts. :o Maryland now requires we wear a mask to shop retail. A young friend is a seamstress and gave me a couple of washable mask she made. Have friends and family also needing masks so I ordered 15 and will pick them up today. She will put them in her newspaper box and I will leave money under a rock in the box. Love living in the country. Looking forward to having a mission and to take a ride. Stay safe.

Georgia is not quite wide open, but state parks have been open throughout. However, the web site says they want only local people to come and would prefer you not come at all!! I have had these reservations for many months, so kept them and am just staying put without even going out much. I will have to stop for groceries, but will do so next Monday in northern GA. Can manage fine for now. As a full-timer, I have to be somewhere and I cannot stay at my son's house in Ohio.

Nice sunny weather here at least. The thing is that when I "camp" I am really indoors a lot of the time, doing household things, watching TV, and grading papers, so I am not out hiking or visiting with people, and there are still no visitor centers or activities like ranger talks anyplace, so I think I am really safe.

Oh, I have a reservation at a COE campground in WV on Memorial Day weekend, and I called them yesterday. The man said they had just had a meeting and many of the Baltimore Division COE parks would be open mid-May but only for existing reservations. Can't make new ones or extend your stay until sometime in June. They said it would depend on how people behaved. Not sure about drop-ins. This is very good news for me because it is very difficult to get a place to stay for a big holiday weekend!

By the way, I think making and selling masks would be a good business right now--even on street corners! I'd pay at least $5 for a nice, cotton, washable mask right now and would buy several.

The heat is here! Had the windows open all night but was fairly warm in here even with a slight breeze. (Where are those gusty winds when you need them??). Finally just had to turn on the AC at 10am. Gonna be about 98* today and then just over 100* for the next 7 days here. Summer is here!

So, obviously no outdoor plans here other than a trip to the grocery store. I went to make a sandwich yesterday and the bread was blue, so I need more of that. Then went to make brownies last night, pulled out the eggs, tested them and they were all bad, so added eggs to the list. I just don't use that stuff often enough to use them up before they go bad. (Maybe I need to make more french toast or toast and eggs for breakfast!)

The cat eyes I ordered for my cat gourd, came the other day but were too small so I ordered a bigger size, so hopefully I got that right this time. They were only $3.99, so not too expensive. I have to do this project in a certain order so am waiting for the things I ordered yet to get started. Should be here tomorrow. Luckily these supplies (one at a time rather than bulk items) are pretty inexpensive so I am not putting a much money into it all right now. I needed whiskers so I asked on my FB gourd group and they told me to use the bristles on a broom so I cut some of those off for that. I hope it turns out really cute! My friend Debbie wants to buy it from me and is anxious to see it when I get it done! So am I! I decided to make it look like an orange tabby (but with spots instead of stripes) like one of her cats.

Anyways, I should get going here before it gets too hot out. Don't want to be waiting in line outside the store too long in the heat! Have a good day!

I had a friend make me some $5 dollar masks but they don’t fit well and seem just a bit small and hey don’t have that nice pocket. So look and ask questions. My friend in Louisville sent me one
Of hers just because she is a nice person. Hers fit have a lining and have a slot for a pocket... :-)

Barbie, your gusty wind is over here. We are having gusts up to 25 mph. It looks like the bad weather is moving in from the Northwest.

Still looking for my elusive trash can. lol It's getting serious. The kitchen trash can is full. If they don't deliver it by tomorrow I'm going to have to ask my neighbor if she has room in her can for my bag of trash.

When they started closing the campground they didn't consider all the people that full time. They just made them get out and move around. I even saw posts from people that were made to get off BLM land for no reason.

Barbie, I have always thought we needed some sort of food exchange for singles. You know, we trade half a loaf of fresh bread for 6 eggs! Or maybe 4 hamburger or hot dog buns for half a package of strawberries. I have a regular 8.5 cubic foot refrigerator/freezer, but it just does not give me much storage for extra stuff.

Everything comes in such big packages, especially things like hamburger buns. Or pizza. I do buy frozen orange juice because it takes up a lot less space than the not-from-concentrate, so I can keep an extra can in my freezer.

And you are right, Martha, by evicting us full-timers from campgrounds, they just make us travel more.

Almost every town around here has at least one group who are making masks for hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living, the homeless shelter, etc they all have a central pick up and drop off center and the completed ones are sent to a commercial place to be washed and sanitized. It is amazing how many are helping. Here is one video on how to make a mask but there are several that show how to make without sewing. My DH even made himself one and one of our neighbors made us some really super good ones. Elastic is really hard to find so people are cutting the elastic from fitted sheets to use. Glad you are finding places to stay Judy.

Sheila, they make flat solar lights that you can put on the ground where you need them. I had some when I was in Q but they never came on. Later I figured out I forgot to pull the tabs on them that keep them from lighting! Duh!

There is a group here that did a bunch of masks for the local police department and are now making more for one of the local hospitals. I have some material I got from a neighbor and am gonna try to make one tomorrow with a glue gun. I picked up some hair binders today but they are flat so they should be more comfortable than the round ones. The one I had made for me works but doesn't fit too well, loose and lots of gaps.
