Sunny Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunny Thursday

Postby Shirlv » Thu Apr 02, 2020 8:27 am

Good Morning All,
I slept good last night but when I opened my eyes the gloom started to set in. Then I thought of all the people in the world so sick. Gave Shirl a good talking to count my blessings which happens a lot lately. It’s upsetting because I am starting to do it out loud. :D I’m grateful I have a roof over my head and my pantry is well stocked. I even have lettuce and herbs planted in a balcony container garden. Spent a couple hours yesterday trying to post a picture here but no luck. I only have an IPad so not sure if something is blocking the procedure since I don’t understand the technology. I’m old enough to remember sacrifices during World War II when this country pulled together and we will do it again. Stay safe

I have a lot of cousins that I grew up and lived very close to as a child--literally next door, across the street, and half a block down the road for 10 of them! And less than two miles away for the other 15. Although two have passed away, age range for rest is 13 years older and 16 years younger than me. I am closer to the ones near my age, but I had not talked to some of those for several years, so in the past few days, I have been in contact with 7 of them via long phone calls, which was wonderful and great fun. (You can imagine how much gossip we had to catch up on.) It all started when one cousin called me, and then I called a couple of others, mainly to check up on everyone's health with this virus going around.

Anyway, it is a good time to call all the relatives (and friends) you have not heard from in a long time.

One interesting thing I found out is that one cousin's DIL who is a nurse is almost entirely recovered from something that had every single symptom of Coronavirus, but she tested negative. Her doctor said he would bet big money on the test being wrong. The good news is that she is now probably immune to another infection and neither her daughter or husband got it.

Slightly cooler day today, which is nice. I was getting tired of the heat here. And very nice chilly night last night made for good sleeping weather. Even had to have the heater on.

I had a cousin call me the other day too. I didn't live close to my cousins but my mother was close to her sisters and brother so saw them often. My dad's family was the kind that held grudges, real and imagined, so didn't know that side of my family very well.

The only post I am missing from the move was Sheila's Cinnamon Roll recipe. It was a long one but hope she posts it again.

I didn't make it to town to get crawfish yesterday. I went fishing instead. I wish I was as ambitious as my neighbor. She washed her house. There is a cleaner that works really well that I will get if I make it to Lowe's. I want to go to town but don't want to go to town. You know what I mean.

I too, have had up and down moods thru this. I try not to watch or read too much about things going on. :(

The wind picked up big time over night so I opened up all the windows and it felt great having the breeze blowing thru. Still windy today and very warm out already. Yesterday we had no wind so I ended up turning the AC on for awhile. May have to do that again today if the winds die down.

I have an unemployment form to fill out and send back. Hopefully, that will start up soon. My property tax is paid, my electric backpay is paid and my rent is covered. I took out a little from my savings to pay other bills for the month but that won't go too far if this shutdown continues for a month or two yet. Hopefully the stimulus check will arrive soon.

I need to get to the bank before Saturday to get quarters to do more laundry over the weekend. Still have my tip money that I use for gas, altho I am not driving much so don't need to do that too often. I should fill the tank tho while gas prices are so low right now.

Since we can't use the swimming pools here, one guy here put a large inflatable pool in his driveway! Saw him on a floaty in there yesterday!

Ate all my tuna salad and am waiting to get my sloppy joe sauce from WM to make those. :D I think I will have to start getting creative with what I have around here, after that.

Gonna practice some work on another gourd today. I have a wood burning tool that I want to try out.

Have a good day and focus on the good things! :D

I'm also having some moods. Most of mine pertain to staying vs leaving here and working this summer. I don't want to let Ken down, and he's expecting me. But I'll be arguing this with myself for the next week (if I go I'm leaving a week from this Saturday.) I see things only getting worse in both Arizona and South Dakota for the next couple months at least.

That said, Ty and I are doing good. It's been two weeks now since the car's even been out. I need to refill my gallon waters, so that'll change tomorrow. I don't intend to stop anywhere else, so shouldn't have to have any people contact. Luckily my neighbor and I have a good chat from a 6 foot plus distance every day. And yesterday while Ty met a couple dogs in the dog park, I socialized with the two owners... All of us practicing distancing. I usually don't go when others are there because some people simply aren't good with distancing.

Those of you with pets that go out. Remember, while only a very few cases of cats and dogs have been documented to have CoVid19, both dogs and cats can carry the virus on their fur, then you pet them and touch your face and bam you get the virus. So be cautious about your dog socializing with other dogs unless you know for fact that other dog has not been in physical contact with a person or dog whose owner was sick. This virus is often no symptoms for a while before the person is sick, varying from mild to severe. That type virus transfer is called a “fomite”. A surface that can transfer the virus.
Stay well all.
I let my handyman mow today, but he’s not allowed inside even my basement. He lives with 6 others and at least one is coughing and they confined her to her room. Yikes

Hi everyone! Yesterday was an especially down day for me. We receive the daily paper and between that and watching TV, it was so depressing, I couldn't cope. I usually color the adult coloring books to pre-occupy my mind, but yesterday couldn't even do that. I've been working on a Great Grey Owl, and today Steve set up my table with the colored pencils, to encourage me to do something to occupy my mind. After spending six hours on the page today, and today was day three, I'll try to continue tomorrow. I made beef stew in the crockpot for dinner with salad as a side and it was good. Between not going to church on Sunday and going again on Thursday to practice, I don't even know what day of the week it is. I'll survive this and hope all of you do, too.

went to get on forum last night and it tells me I need to sign in oh my do I know my password? not on your life!!! so read some that I could and text Beth this morning to get my password... worked I am on now...
I meant to say rabbits but think I said something like come oh Shadow lets go outside before I remembered to say Rabbits... I keep telling myself that I am being super lazy but perhaps there is more to it than that I sure am not accomplishing what I need to do...
and I keep changing my mind about what I will do when I leave the desert... up till today I thought I would just go into town and stick around for a month... but now I am thinking I will head north my dd says I can get up the hill and there is still almost 3 weeks till I will be there.. and of course I can't make many plans yet as I can't access the weather for then yet...
was suppose to go to games yesterday after my youngest reamed on me for doing so  still planned on doing so got to the wash and they were doing work on it much needed work at that so ended up not going in...
I have seriously been wondering if we were being smart continuing having games... but knew how easily depressed one of the ladies can get thought it was important but had pretty much decided that I would tell them Friday I wouldn't be in till this was all over so hopefully in the fallish... was talking to the one who hosts it and she said she was concerned (one of the ladies "boyfriend" is flying in tomorrow evening from some foreign place) ya I know we keep telling her but oh well...anyway the host was concerned and I said I know what you need to do and that is stop having the games... she seemed relieved and so no games... till further notice... will miss the but I find it a relief as well... especially if said boyfriend actually arrives and then she continues coming to games...
this morning was woke up with a phone call like 8 a m we visited a bit and I attempted to go back to sleep when the phone ran again with my dear friend calling (our relationship is more of sister's and their kids called up aunt and uncle and visa versa) very much family for her to call at that time of the morning I knew something was wrong plus she had posted on FB noting saying more than prayers needed for her family... it turned out her son had a pulmonary embolism and died last night it's been a hard day haven't seen him for so many years he was in the army recently retired a few years ago and lived in WA not far from my sister/friend... she has now lost 3 children I just hurt for her and her family and of course I had to call my kids and tell them the news hard to do... hope all are well and being safe guess I ought to let my youngest know that I will no longer be doing games... she will be happy

I watched Dr Phil today and he was talking about dealing with depression during this crisis. A lot of people are having trouble dealing with the stress of this and of the confinement of being at home, and not knowing when this will end and what is going to happen with the economy from all this. He also addressed the info about pets getting or spreading the virus. He had an expert on with him who said no pets have been documented with having it as of yet.

Beth, that is a really pretty gourd! Where does your friend live, and does she sell her gourds or just make them as a hobby?
I didn't get to working on anything today. It was way too windy early in the day (the wood burning has to be done outdoors) and then the wind just stopped and it got really hot and stuffy. I want to do some insulating in my porch so I can use my portable AC unit out there for the summer.

I did get my unemployment form filled out and mailed. Hope I did it right! :o

Took a ride around the park this evening and saw another swimming pool set up in a driveway. Apparently, one of the couples had a pool party in theirs yesterday and the management got word of it and put the kabash on the pools. They sent out an email about it but I didn't get it, just heard about it on our FB page.

Time for bed...have a good night!

** Beth, most state parks are closed and they are talking about closing national parks. I can't imagine your store would have any customers if that is the case since Keystone is so dependent on visitors to the parks there.
