Sunday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Sun Mar 29, 2020 11:06 am

Morning all. End of another week of Stay At Home and cases continue to climb. Detroit area is the hotspot for MI. There are still some counties in the NW lower and U.P. that do not have any cases as yet.

Our Secretary of State (DMV in some states) offices are closed to the public other than by appt. only for business that can’t be done online or by phone. People who have drivers licenses expiring are going to have to wait till they reopen to renew. So a grace period is in effect. Car dealer showrooms are closed, so no car sales and insurance companies are doing business by phone. People up here are encouraging people from downstate areas who have second homes up in the north to stay where they are. If they do come up, then briNg supplies and self quarantine for 14 days. Actually, traveling around in the state is discouraged unless it’s essential. The same being said for those returning from spending the winter in other states. We now have 14 cases here in the county and some additional ones in others.

We had rain during the night and sun is trying to peak out, but more rain or a mix is supposed to come again later today into tomorrow. Feel sorry for the people who had tornadoes last night. Just what thry need in the middle of the virus situation. For those of you who know Michelle (Mitch), her house was struck by lightening last night. No fire but but it knocked out power to her living room, damaged all her Dish TV equipment, 3 security cameras, stereo equipment and sent sparks flying. She’s fine and so is Mattie. Also had a 6 foot section of gutter come loose in the storm. She posted on FB about it.

Sharon, glad all’s well with you, other than a case of cabin fever. Don’t blame your for not dewinterizing Lola. I’m nt uncovering or dewinterizing my trailer either, till I see where this is going. I think it will be mid summer before we can breathe a sigh of relief. A lot of events and festivals n May are already cancelled and the nex two weeks will tell if Stay in Place will have to be extended.

I’m going to make myself some lunch here and then get a little productive. Eventually will take the pups for a walk. Have a nice day everyone. Stsy safeand remember this too shall pass.

Good morning Sue!

Today is my daughter, Naomi's 19th birthday! I got an email from her dad saying she is home from college for the rest of the school year and they are all hunkered down and doing fine.

Just finished watching our church service on-line. It is sunny and breezy here today. At least the weather has been beautiful here, unlike others around the country now. So sad about the tornadoes and severe weather all over, adding insult to injury right now. :(

They are also restricting people from LA wanting to come out here now. No short-term rentals allowed either. There is a new drive-thru testing site opening near me at the fair grounds. That is also where they are setting up a temporary "hospital" for people with COVID-19 that don't require ICU.

I have been avoiding seeing the numbers of cases because it is too depressing for me. I just need to focus on where I am at and keeping my mood up and stay busy. It has been an emotional rollercoaster tho, for me.

My friends, Dave and Debbie are coming by today to put on the porch screen that he made for me. One of them was missing so I asked him to make a replacement. He had also made one for my missing bedroom screen awhile back.

I need to call my insurance guy tomorrow. I forgot to cancel the insurance on my trailer when I sold it, so need to get that done.

Have a good day and stay safe and healthy!

It's cloudy and 80 here today. I thought we were suppose to get rain last night but it must have gone North of us. I mixed a batch of weed spray in the sprayer and might go spray the drive way at the property North of here. I was going to get some limestone put there to make a better drive way but that's on hold like everything else. So glad I got the barn and carport repairs done just in time.

I got the bread machine out and trying to make bread. The dough looks like it's too soft but will let it go to see how it comes out. I never have gotten along with the bread machine I bought after I lost mine in the flood. I think it takes a lot of practice to learn a new machine or it does for me.

I have been wanting to make some fishing rod holders for the golf cart. This morning I found a short piece of 2" PVC pipe I can zip tie to the cart. Just need to remember not to drive under the carport with the fishing rods sticking up. Maybe if I dig around at the barn I can find another piece of pipe.

Good morning. Nothing new here to report. Just staying in. I have been working on my storage shed sorting things out but since I cant go to the donation center, no Harbor Freight for something I need, and cannot go to the bottle recycle center I am kind of at a standstill. With all this crap still in my shed dang it.

Took the pup for a walk before the rains arrive this afternoon maybe. Didn't see a soul outside while we were walking. I got my Food Saver out and bundled up all the meat I bought yesterday and stuck it in the freezer. Made a pot roast in the Instant Pot, froze that. And soon going to make some Terriyaki chicken in my Air Fryer. I hope I find something else to do besides cook LOL LOL Cant shop for bigger pants yet.

I, too, have been making bread. I have a recipe that I got from a friend's mother back when I was a teenager. It is a pretty simple wheat bread, and I just do it by hand.

I don't have a bread machine.

I enjoy eating bread, and when this "situation" was beginning to go down I got to thinking that bread doesn't have much of a shelf life, but flour will last pretty much indefinitely if it is kept in a zip-lock bag in the refrigerator - and flour takes up a lot less space than bread does.

Finally, a 5-pound bag of flour (regular unbleached flour works just fine) costs about $2.50 here where I live. A 5-pound bag of flour can make around 5, one-pound, loaves of bread (+/-), so a single loaf of yummy home-made bread works out to about fifty cents per loaf!

I got my mom a bread machine once and she made bread all the time. Finally wore the machine out! And it smelled SO good! Nothing better than the smell of homemade bread! :D

Got my new window screen on. Those two do so much for me and they never want anything in return. I did get her a cute gift I got in Q, when she cat sat for me. They are the nicest couple and do so much to help everyone around here and in the community. They are my age so they both still work but find time to help everyone else. Debbie saw one of my gourds and when I told her I want to make a cat with it, she said she wants to buy it from me. Should be a fun project.

I decided to make tuna salad today since I had everything I needed for it including fresh celery I just bought. Well, I thought I had the pasta for it but I didn't. So I had to go out and get some. Three stores later, I finally found some! So now I just finished making that so will have that to munch on for several days. I also want to make sloppy joes. I have always bought the "Not So Sloppy Joe" sauce because it is so good, not too spicy and has a hint of BBQ flavor to it. Can't find it anymore in any store, but I found it on-line at WM so I ordered 3 jars of it. Should be getting that in a few days and once I run out of tuna salad, I can make up the sloppy joes and have that for a few more days.

It was a little breezy this morning, and by early afternoon, there was no wind at all. Now it is extremely windy with very high gusts! Feels good tho coming thru the porch windows.

Today is my daughter Naomi's 19th birthday. I sent an e-mail last week to her dad asking about her, and got an e-mail back yesterday saying she is home from college for the school year and they are all staying home and doing well. He never elaborates beyond a sentence or two. It is what it is... :(

Am playing around with a small gourd today. I painted it a copper color. Now I will add some other stuff to it and see how it turns out. It wasn't a very pretty gourd so I thought it would be a good one to practice on. Looks better already tho.

Greetings! We had rainy dreary weather yesterday but today the sun is out and it’s really quite nice out. The grass is turning green.

I am starting to feel like the cat in that Facebook thread what was going around several years ago! I have watched several episodes of “My 600 Pound Life” to reinforce social distancing from the refrigerator. Also have watched Hoarders to keep me on my task of purging in closets. Also I cut my own bangs because I figured if everything is closed down for a couple months that they will have grown out enough to get a decent cut. Actually they don’t really don’t look that bad and I was thinking of you while I was doing it Barbie!

The good news is the tests for the three people in Avon who had to be tested came back negative. That’s a relief and there is still only one reported positive case in our county. It appears that most people are taking the stay at home seriously. Gossip is at a special city council meeting Friday it was decided that they plan to close all the businesses in town on the 31st for at least a month possibly two. The grocery store, bank and gas stations are exceptions. I think it must be true because I was told Jim and Pam have posted a notice on the door of the bar that they will be closed for on-sale and will sell off-sale from 5-8. People have to call in their order and it will be delivered to the curb. I’m so glad that I’m not on the city council anymore because I am sure that there are a couple businessmen who are going to raise holy hell about it even though they are in the high risk age group themselves.

My high school friends and I had a happy hour on Facetime Friday night. That was fun. We usually get together for lunch once a month but decided that would have to work for a couple months. Luckily we all have iphones.

Well that’s my news as boring as it is. Way past morning so have a good tomorrow.
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.

Bread is SO easy to make. I posted my old recipe that I was taught when I was a child. Neighbor taught me to make bread when I was 9. Made some last night, but I only make one loaf at a time as it does not keep.

My neighbor made cherry cobbler tonight and brought over a big piece for me. I scarfed it down 'cause it was so good! Now I have a tummy ache  .

I have a very old West Ben Just for Dinner bread machine I found new in the box on ebay!! I had one from 'back when' but it died so I was so happy to find one. It has a Teflon lining that gives me pause but I use it anyway. Makes enough for me to last about 5 days. DH won't eat it as I make white bread. From start to finish takes about 55 minutes, ten to get it all in the pan and 45 minutes to cook. I found the key to a nice high loaf is to fluff up the flower before you measure and use a little more milk than it calls for.
