Another Rainy Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Another Rainy Saturday

Postby Othersharon » Sat Mar 28, 2020 12:15 pm

Just passed morning here in the East. We had a beautiful warmish day yesterday and I definitely got hitch itch! Combination of good weather and self isolation I suppose. Pup and I did get out for a nice walk though. Good for both of us. The stream is running and the peepers have started so it was a good stress reliever. Today we have more rain and had some thunder earlier and they are forecasting for more thunderstorms later today. After our walk I took a drive and stopped at Burger King for a burger. Not really what I wanted but it was there! Interesting the steps they are taking to avoid contact. I say good for them. I parked so I could watch people and cars if for no other reason but to remind myself there are people out there. I usually don’t mind my own company but I do need a people fix once in awhile. In this case from a distance! I need a few things from the store but haven’t ventured into that yet. I think I’ll just wait until I need more and make it worth my time. I did finally order dog food from Chewy so no trip to Petco needed. And the boy is happy. Spent a few minutes dreaming in Lola the other day. I’ve decided not to call my guy to dewinterize her and will just wait this out to see if it’s worth doing this season. I can do it myself so it’s not a big deal. And all the systems seem to be running okay so think I’m good. I need an inspection in May but not sure if the time will be extended out. So far they announced yesterday that all March and April inspections, registrations and driver’s licenses have been given an extension. Guess we’ll see how this all plays out. So much happening with all of you and I’ve been reading but not posting since my days just seem to run together and nothing happening. Just looking forward to it drying up so I can get busy in the yard. Okay, enough babbling from me. I am so grateful for all of you and knowing we are not alone during this trying time. Take care and stay safe.

Hi Sharon & everyone that checks in! Sharon, I think that's a good thing that you got out for a bit. Being house bound is getting to us, too, and we did basically the same thing you did. We ventured to a Camping World and came out with 2 rolls of toilet paper. On the way home, we stopped at another Winn-Dixie, which is larger than the one we usually go to. Surprisingly, their inventory was such that we were able to get the shrimp and chicken that we wanted. The other Winn-Dixie was completely out.

Our weather is sunny and very warm and we'll top off in the mid 90's later in the afternoon. Now that this batch of groceries is put away, I think we'll venture outside and sit in the yard. Steve will watch TV & read and I will continue on my adult coloring book working on the poisonous dart frogs I started a couple days ago. I check online to see what these things look like so I can color accordingly. A friend told me yesterday that frogs are supposed to be green. Not these.

Sunday's are difficult for me because I really enjoy accompanying for the service in church, which is in limbo right now. And not going to church messes up the rest of the week because I can't remember what day of the week it is.

Stay safe everyone!

Good afternoon!

I love when posts on here bring up fun memories. Irmi, your friend that says all frogs are green needs to visit an aquarium. :)

When we built our home in 1984, we were inundated with frogs from the nearby wetland. Frogs became our thing! One morning we had 48 lined up at the garage doors. When Monica got married before her dad walked her down the aisle, she gave him a candle - a frog wearing a crown . When Steven passed away, she got a small frog tattoo. I actually have a small rubber frog stuck on my bathroom mirror - have done that since 2003. At Monica's wedding, Steven snuck a poison dart frog (plastic of course) on her wedding cake. Thanks, Irmi!

I laugh at those of you who stocked up on ice cream - I'd gain 100 pounds in a week if I did that! No will power when it comes to ice cream. I allow myself 1/2 gallon per month.

Life goes on with still only 2 virus cases in this Arizona county. I love the freedom of all this time. Be careful everyone!

Well I ventured to the grocery store today as I had to go out anyway and get gas. We are not allowed to pump our own here in Oregon but got an alert this morning saying we were going to start pumping our own due to the virus. So I needed gas as I have a doc appt on Monday and I dont like any other stops along the way. They didnt know anything about it so they pumped it for me just like usual. Then I decided I needed a couple things at the store. It wasnt crowded they have big red X's on the floor where you are supposed to stand 6 ft away from the person in front of you and you cannot unload your groceries on the belt until their transaction is finished. I used my card and right after a fellow came over with wipes and wipes down the card reader he said every 10 minutes. So I bought some meat as I want to make some vegetable soup, meatballs, and meatloaf for the freezer. They had chicken thighs on sale so bought a pack of those too. Went down the paper products aisle and this is what I saw

the aisle didnt even have any shoppers there I was surprised I didnt get any because I have enough. Just shocked me as most stores have none around here.

Good afternoon!

Been a strange day so far. I woke up and discovered Lola had diarrhea all over the carpet in the living room and threw up twice out there. Then found more drops of diarrhea around the house (after stepping in some of it! ). Then she had some on her back foot from stepping in it. So she got a foot bath. Her tail got in the soapy water and when I squeezed it out, it came out brown! I washed her tail 3 times before the water ran clear! She doesn't clean herself anymore but I had no idea her fur had gotten so dirty! I will have to give her a full bath pretty soon. She seems to be feeling OK now. Will keep an eye on her tho.

Then I got on FB and went to our park website. Usually it is just people talking about what is happening here, ducklings in the pool, offers of help for neighbors, trip updates from snowbirds, jokes, memes, etc. But there was a guy who posted a very political (and controversial) story on there just before I got on the site. I was the first to comment, saying that I felt it was very inappropriate to be posting political stuff on our site. Someone else agreed. Others got really mad and asking the guy to delete it. One person said they totally agreed with what he posted and then elaborated on it. I said we really need to stop this before it gets into an ugly debate. The moderator finally heard about it and got on and deleted it, saying politics are not allowed on our page at all. Whew!

The house was still stinky so I decided to go out and get something to eat and try to find some milk and butter. I had lunch at Taco Bell (in my car of course) and then got in a short line outside of WinCo. I always cough for a bit right after I eat so I was getting dirty looks while I was waiting in line! I did find both milk and butter, and got a few other things as long as I was there. The butter was really cheap so I got two pounds and they had a ton of it (WinCo brand). That should last me awhile.

Lola and I are out on the porch while I have incense burning in the house and all the windows open. It is nice and breezy today and low 70's. There is a new hiking trail a mile down the road from me called the Indio Badlands near the border of Joshua Tree NP. There were over 60 cars parked there when I went by. Lots of people on the trail and very few were 6 feet apart! That is why so many trails out here are being shut down because no one is doing the social distancing when they hike.

So I am tired today. Don't think I will get much done. Maybe tomorrow.

I think I lost one of my hibiscus plants. One is doing really well but the other looks pretty much dead now. :( Tomato plants are doing pretty good. I am getting quite a few cherry tomatoes. The regular tomatoes are small and green yet but we are supposed to get much warmer weather next week and the heat usually gets the tomatoes to ripen faster. I have one tiny strawberry on one of my strawberry plants. I sadly, don't have a very green thumb.

Sharon, I am kind of like you. I like time to myself, but sometimes I also need to be around people for awhile, then back to being alone again. My dad was like that too. Very social but also liked his alone time.

Someone is cooking outside and it really smells good! I hate when they do that!!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I don't know if our DMV is closed but they probably are. I wonder what happens if you buy a car. You need insurance right away but don't know if insurance offices are open.

I finally remembered to put up my hummingbird feeder. One bird has already found it. I need to order wood bee traps. They aggravate the hummingbirds and eat my deck.

Didn't do much all day. Cut the vines that are trying to take over my crepe myrtle tree. Walked Sugar several times. I thought about going to town to get some boiled crawfish but there are usually too many people trying to get some on Fridays and Saturdays. The line of cars snakes all around the big parking lot and down a side street. I cooked a frozen pizza.

Anita, I didn't stock up on ice cream. I only bought a pint and still have half of it left. I only eat the smallest bowl I have of it. If I had a gallon of ice cream I would be eating it all the time.

Barbie, sorry Lola is sick again. Annie doesn't get diarrhea but she licks and scratches until she has bumps all over. Her claws are like little needles. I put flea treatments on her every 3 weeks but I don't think it's fleas that make her scratch. I tried to cut some of the fir around the sore on the outside cat that has the abscess and put some medicine on it. He is feeling better from the antibiotics.

Neighboring states are stopping people leaving Louisiana and asking where they are going and telling them they have to quarantine themselves for 14 days.

Martha, I don't know about your DMV, but I have purchased my insurance over the phone for a number of years. I have had notices from insurance that their offices are closed but phones are open.

it wasn't windy today so I burned the paper stuff I collected over the winter also drained out the oil in the generator and refilled it... it's working so didn't do anything wrong...
went to the laundromat had my shower and did a batch of clothing... then grocery store for some milk and meat and whatever else it was that jumped into my cart.. and stopped at a restaurant that had take out only rushed home to eat it while hot... or close to it..
even got a nap in
had some excitement tonight I had been sitting on the couch got up to turn the light on when I saw what looked like a campfire on steroids couldn't decide what it was went outside to see if I could tell better and try to determine what to do... when I saw a truck(assume it was a truck) with red and blue lights on coming up the road and veered over to the blaze still don't know if it was a really big campfire or a fire, it's out and truck gone... still off putting..I didn't see any embers blow away and the breeze was just that a breeze can't believe that it came from my paper fire 10 hours later... hope not that is for sure just glad all is well right now or assume that it is.
so that was my day now that my honey does are done for outside at least the most pressing Monday will concentrate on the living room...
