unmotivated Monday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

unmotivated Monday

Postby BarbaraRose » Mon Mar 23, 2020 11:36 am

Good morning gals!

Here is a quote from a friend of mine.. "But one thing I've learned is that when there is extra time, I need to make the most of it, or when this is over I'll say "Why didn't I get all that work done?" Instead, I just feel anxious and unmotivated."

This is how I am feeling now too. Anxious and unmotivated. My dishes and laundry really need my attention today so we'll see how far I get with that.

Things are really quiet around here this morning. Usually I see and hear people out walking by my place by now but so far no one is out. I guess the reality of the virus hitting so close to home is making everyone stay inside. Joshua Tree closed all roads there but still hundreds of cars are parking all over outside the gates and causing a lot of problems there.

Hope you are all doing OK and able to keep busy or enjoying your down time for awhile. :D

I'm sure having this hit someone in your park is adding to your feelings, Barbie. We're all in this together and luckily we have each other here to voice these concerns, etc.

Luckily my morning desert walk with Ty helps ground me (when I finally get up). And right now I'm washing my sheets. At least it's something. I think I spend the most amount of time every day washing... My hands, my table, doorknobs, Ty's leash, etc etc. My neighbor and I had a good chat... From about 8 feet apart. It's her husband's 85th birthday today. Hopefully I'll see him to wish him a Happy Birthday. He's quite hard of hearing and with the distance I have to make sure he sees me first.

Beth I feel like I am washing all the time too. I took my neighbor (who has been sheltering at home like the rest of us around here) to get his other cataract removed. I decided while I am out and about to stop at the store for fresh veggies. The store had some people but not a lot. All kind of bread, eggs, cheese, meat etc. Frozen veggies were a little low but still had plenty. They were stocking everywhere around the store. They were out of toilet paper today but I dont need any I have enough. Got neighbor home then unloaded my groceries, washed the cans and bags of things I bought. Then threw my bags in the washer and wiped down my counters and washed my hands ...again.

I got this email today and found it interesting and thought many suggestions just cannot hurt.

Subject: Fwd: FW: Corona Guidelines

John Cimino, a Notre Dame graduate who is a physician at one of the leading disease control hospitals in the US, located in Nebraska, sent this email to his family and friends and one of them sent it to us. It seems to make sense.

Guys, please see below. There is a lot of false information on both TV and the internet. John
Subject: Fwd.: Corona Guidelines

We received this clear, simple, and easily accessible information from the task force that is fighting against the coronavirus epidemic, describing exactly what the virus is and how it moves from person to person and can be neutralized in everyday life.

The corona virus infection does not cause colds with dripping nose or phlegmy cough, but rather a dry, shallow cough: this is the easiest thing to know.

The virus is not resistant to heat and dies if exposed to temperatures of 26-27ºC: so throughout the day, drink lots of hot drinks such as tea, herbal tea and broth, or simply hot water: hot liquids neutralize the virus, and it is not difficult to drink them. Avoid drinking ice water or eating ice cubes!

For those who can do it, expose yourself to the sun.

1. The corona virus is quite large (about 400-500 nanometers in diameter), so any kind of mask can stop it: there is no need to wear special masks in daily life. It is a different situation for doctors and health care providers who are exposed to high virus loads and must use special equipment. Please save N-95 masks for them.

If an infected person sneezes in front of you, stay three meters away (almost 10 feet), not 6 feet: the virus will drop to the ground and not land on you.

2. When the virus is on metallic surfaces, it will survive for about 12 hours. So, if you touch metal surfaces such as doorknobs, doors, appliances, stand on trams, etc., you should wash your hands thoroughly and carefully disinfect them.

3. The virus can live nestled in clothes and fabrics for about 6-12 hours: normal detergents can kill it. For clothes that can not be washed every day, expose them to the sun and the virus will die.

What are the symptoms:

1. The virus is installed primarily in the throat, causing inflammation and a feeling of dry mouth: this symptom can last for 3/4 days.

2. The virus travels through the humidity present in the airway, down into the trachea and is planted in the lungs, causing pneumonia. This step takes about 5/6 days.

3. Pneumonia is manifested by high fever and difficulty breathing, but is not accompanied by the classic cold. However, you may have the sensation of drowning. In this case, seek medical attention immediately.

How can you prevent it:

1. The transmission of the virus takes place mostly by direct contact, by touching tissues or materials upon which the virus is present: washing your hands frequently is crucial.

The virus survives only on your hands for about ten minutes, but in ten minutes, many things can happen: you rub your eyes or scratch your nose, for example, allowing the virus to get into your throat.

So, for your own good and for the good of others, frequently wash your hands and disinfect them!

2. You can gargle with a disinfectant solution which eliminates or minimizes the proportion of virus that can come into your throat; by doing so, you remove it before it travels into the trachea and then the lungs.

3. Disinfect your computer's keyboard and mouse [and cell phones].

With the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), one might not show signs of infection for many days, so you might not know if a person is infected. But when we see fever and/or cough, and you go to the hospital, the lungs are usually already 50% fibrosis, and it's too late.

Here is a simple test you can do yourself every morning:

Take a deep breath and hold your breath for more than 10 seconds. If you successfully complete it without coughing, without discomfort or tightness, etc., this shows that there is no fibrosis in the lungs, indicating essentially no infection. In these critical times, do this check every morning in an environment with clean air.

Everyone should make sure that their mouth and throat are moist, never DRY. Drink a few sips of water at least every 15 minutes. WHY? Even if the virus enters your mouth, the water or any other liquid will sweep the virus through the esophagus and into the stomach. Once in the stomach, gastric acids will kill any virus. If you do not drink water more regularly, the virus can enter your airways and lungs, which is very dangerous.

I’m sorry Karen, but some of the things in the statement you posted have been debunked by doctors and other experts.. Certain of these suggestions are from Facebook and are being passed around that way. Three I remember seeing where doctors have said it’s not true are the ones about holding your breath for 10 seconds, drinking a lot and washing the virus into your stomach, and that “any” mask will stop the virus.

It’s best to research first. Some may be true, but some may not be.

Hi Karen.

I find myself confused by a lot of the information in this email, perhaps you, as a medical professional, can explain it a bit more?

I ask this humbly and sincerely, because I am just trying to understand these things.

Example: "The virus is not resistant to heat and dies if exposed to temperatures of 26-27ºC"

Using one of the conversion tables, I see that 27ºC (C as in Centigrade/Celsius, yes?) is equal 80.6º Fahrenheit. Normal temperature of the human body is 98.6º Fahrenheit, with a normal "range" of 97º F to 99º F .

If the virus "dies" when exposed to temps of 27ºC (80.6º F), how can it be infective in the 98.6º F human body?

Thanks.

Excellent points, Sandi.

Washing the virus into the stomach by drinking a lot also may not help all that much. I am reading in various places that Covid 19 may be infective of the digestive tract as well.

Here is one reference (there are others):

Thank you Anne and Sandi! Saved me copying all the links I've been sending all week. Really bad advice in that letter supposedly from a Dr, and in fact, almost identical to Facebook posts that keep getting passed around. Current temp to kill corona viruses per WHO is, at least 56% C or 132 degrees F!

I hadnt seen any of these on facebook and I didnt research it because it seemed rather benign. Hold my breath okay. I can do that. Drink warm liquids ok I do that too. Disinfect, already doing that so I didnt find it a big deal but apparently you all do so just dont do it.

There is so much conflicting information going around so I am gonna just stay home. Sitting outside in the sun sounds like a good idea tho!

There have been heavy storms hitting the coast of SoCal but we have sunny skies here, altho a lot of wind!

Haven't done anything important yet, but have been doing research on-line for gourd art ideas. One of my friends here saw my gourds the other day. I showed her one that I want to make into a cat and she said she will buy it from me, so I'm looking for ideas on how to design the cat face, etc. The gourd has a long, skinny neck which will be the tail. I need to rewatch some videos on how to get started on preparing and staining the gourd. It has lots of cool round markings so it might look like a Bengal or Savannah cat when I am done!

My tummy is telling me it is lunch time...

The stay at home order came yesterday and I was on my way home from camping. We went to a Forest Service campground. Plenty of room between campsites. It's on a lake so a lot of the people there were fishermen. It rained a couple of times and turned cold so my sister and I didn't go fishing. I'm staying at home now. I had to stay on hold over an hour to cancel 2 reservations on Reserve America. Louisiana started out giving refunds on a gift card but by the time I called they were refunding the total amount back to your credit card. Louisiana needs to get with the program. When I cancelled my Florida reservations I could do it online.

I have done very little today. I didn't even get dressed until noon. I was kind of worried about Sugar. The food I took camping was different from the food at home and she didn't want to eat it. I finally picked out all the pieces she didn't like and she ate a little. I could tell she wasn't feeling good last night but this morning she ate her food. She sure loves to go camping.

I think the reason the virus is so bad in Louisiana is Mardi Gras. So far there hasn't been any cases reported in my Parish. There is so little testing being done that I doubt they even know how many cases there are anywhere.

Martha it's possible he is like my Shadow when we go anywhere he doesn't eat well for a couple days then will settle down and eat or perhaps he just got a stomach irritation and it's healed so he is willing to eat...
Had to go to the post office as my monthly plants had been delivered...so stopped at a couple of places to see if I could find flour and sugar and some frozen veggies... was looking for corn and peas not to be found... but did find sugar and flour and a women's world don't know why ww didn't have them but have one now...
need to get with the program and do something in the trailer other than read or nap   tomorrow is a good day to do that I guess. it was so windy today have some stuff I'd like to burn and generator needs to have the oil changed but it needs a calm day as well the way they have the oil drip out is really strange...
hopefully tomorrow night I will report that I've accomplished something... I can't even say I did stuff on my list as there was no list made other than phone calls I need to make and they can wait..
