New Reality Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

New Reality Friday

Postby BarbaraRose » Fri Mar 20, 2020 9:47 am

First day of my temporary "retirement" aka self-isolation.

I went to bed at midnight and woke up at 5am. Have been awake and up since then. Very unusual for me but I am a bit shaken by the reality of this whole situation now that it is affecting me so personally. :(

We have our yard sale this morning but because the clubhouses are closed, we don't have a list of who is having one so will have to drive around and search the park. Kind of a scavenger hunt! I only know of 3 so far. So glad I decided not to have one myself.

We have been instructed by my manager to come in to the shop this morning to pick up our equipment and personal things and drop off our key. We will be paid for the first 14 work days. I signed up for unemployment but with millions of people filing for that right now across the state, not sure how soon that will actually happen.

I have posted on our FB page for my park, that I will be offering free haircuts (outside) for the next month on Tuesdays. Will add a day or two as needed if I get a lot of requests.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Well, the COE changed its mind about letting us stay to the end of our reservations, so we have to leave on Monday. And WP Franklin has also cancelled my reservation for next week, so I am headed north to where Paulette is staying. I have reversations for three weeks, but if Georgia state parks are still open, I may go up there in two weeks. Will see.

Judy, once all the snowbirds get back home, things should be better for finding places (or maybe not). I guess Walmart parking lots are filling up with lots of RVs right now.

Only found a few people here having a yard sale but I did buy two pretty indoor/outdoor rugs that will go nicely on my porch to cover up the ugly carpet in here, and one for my deck. They are green (palm leaves) with peach/orange hibiscus flowers on them so will match the peach color on the porch and house nicely. Here is a pic...(not my table/chairs).

Got everything at work packed up and brought home. Looked so bare in the shop. All the products and computer stuff were removed and put in back so as not to entice thieves. One of the guys is totally flipping out about all this and is stressing out the manager. I do think emotions are running high right now with all the changes and uncertainty. I have been on an adrenaline rush today too, I think from nerves. Hopefully, I will sleep better tonight.

Lots of interest so far in the free haircut offer. 3 signed up so far. More are saying they are interested.

More snowbirds heading out this weekend from here, but some from Oregon, Washington and Northern CA are deciding to stay put for now. Not a bad place to hang out! Fresh snow on the tops of the mountains, mid 60's, sunshine. :D Can't complain!

Stay safe! :D

Quiet times here at Oasis Palms RV Park. People walking their dogs and that is about it. Yesterday I drove out to Borego Springs and State Park. Took a few pictures of wildflowers and cacti. Returned by way of Ocotillo Wells Off Road Recreation Area. Many people out there camping and playing. They are practicing safe distancing.
Having a down day here. Tomorrow I may drive out to Joshua Tree NP if the weather holds. Sunday I will head back towards Pahrump and then slowly head north. It is still too cold to bring the RV north without winterizing it.
Stay safe and healthy.

Brenda, if you want company at Joshua Tree NP tomorrow, let me know. I would love to see it. (and it is in my backyard!).

Just had a nice long chat with my SIL and brother in Phoenix. They of course are very concerned about things but are doing OK. I need to call more often. My brother sounds so happy to hear from me. I will go visit them after things get better with the virus situation. His health is compromised so I don't want to visit right now.

The clouds just rolled in but I haven't heard anything about rain at all.

I got some things at Home Depot that might work to fix my leaky pipe. Will go try that now. Was kind of waiting to see if one of the maintenance guys would show up to look at it but they leave at 2pm and it is 3:30 now.

Barbie, that rug looks like it'll fit in with your things perfectly. And I'd have signed up for a hair cut! I only need a trim and can do my bangs but wasn't an inch or two cut off the back. Just a straight cut. But I guarantee I can't do it.

Brenda, it seems things are changing daily. Stay safe and get where you need to, even if early.

Ok. I went to the store and now, barring any emergencies, will stay in place for my 3 or so weeks until I head north. And I didn't (forgot) to get chocolate. :o The little I have will have to last me.

I have been wondering what happened to carolb! I thought for some reason she had stopped traveling. I am really surprised though that people are visiting we have been told to shelter in place! All of Illinois will go into more closures today. This evening all retail stores close, grocery stores, gas stations and a few other places will remain open. Banks have been closed over a week except drive through Several people shopping are wearing gloves I hear. No gatherings, you can go for a walk but are reminded if you meet someone to keep a 6 foot distance. We are not visiting neighbors and haven't for about a week. There is a list of local farmers and you can order from and pay online. Your items are packed by people wearing gloves, there is a pick up point and they place the items in your trunk with gloves in paper bags. Cardboard can have the virus live on its surface the longest and plastic is next. I'm getting frozen farm raised beef this afternoon from a vendor I know. It is very hard adjustnent, I fear my mental health may go first!!

HI all,
Yeah, I know it's Saturday, but we can stay on Friday for a bit longer since days of the week don't matter that much right now, right?
So good to hear that Carolb is out there. She's been on my mind lately. Sheila, please tell her Hi for me if you see her again. Stay safe & hope you get back to your family without any problems.
We had a family birthday party using Zoom Thursday evening. That's how we'll be celebrating graduations & future birthdays for a while. Zoom is pretty easy to use & worked better than other things we've tried before.
My DIL's company is closing for a couple of weeks - means unpaid leave for her. The company makes entertainment systems for airplanes so I fear this is just how they are going ease everyone into a layoff of some sort following this 2-week closure.
Guess I can work full-time for my remaining few weeks before retirement since I shouldn't need to have either of the kids here during the day.
Hope you all have a safe place to stayput for while.
Take care, my dear friends.
