Need Help Finding Campsite

Postby JudyJB » Wed Mar 18, 2020 3:33 pm

Florida State Parks have closed. I am OK at St. Lucie Lock and Dam and at WP Franklin Lock and Dam until March 29, but then I have to find another place. I am going to head north so I can dry camp if needed because it is too hot here without AC. Also, down here in southern Florida they are charging horrible rates for campgrounds--$60 per night and up with not much of a discount for weekly rates.

Prefer someplace where sites are open for satellite and slightly spread apart to reduce disease transmission. Like maybe they could hide me in a corner way in the back? I just need electric and Verizon service. Maybe a newer place would be more open and have bigger spaces. Don't want to be tucked in a woods because I will go nuts without TV.

Here are my options:
- Commercial campground in central or northern Florida where I could stay a week or more.
- County or city campground in central or northern FLorida, except these also might close.
- State Park in southern or central Georgia. They say they are open and welcoming guests.

Any suggestions of someplace that is likely to stay open for a few weeks??

Judy, I'd call this park... If you're an Escapees member rates are lower, they have daily, weekly and monthly rates and they have restrictions now but are open.

Check with Liz over in Live Oak what the situation is there. It is a small park and they may leave it open....Some sites are in more sun than others.....

It's completely closed.

I checked John Prince and South Bay RV parks, both of which are Palm Beach County parks, and they have plenty of spaces, but I will call back in a week to see if they are still open. Otherwise, I will head north to Georgia and hope I can find something up there. There should be lots of vacancies in northern Florida commercial campgrounds, at least.

The hardest part is finding an open park so I can get satellite. I'd also rather not be cramped tightly with other campers.

JudyJB, I’m staying in Suwannee River rendezvous (mayo, fl) till the end of the month. As far as I can tell they have no intention of closing. They have weekly rates, open spaces, etc. lots of Canadians have left to get home early so you could probably get a site here if you wanted.

Also, if you are a member of RVillage, Spirit of the Suwannee music park is offering reduced rates. They are in Live Oak, FL.

Hope that helps you.

Thanks, Paulette. An almost empty campground is just what I am looking for. I will keep it in mind if I cannot get into John Prince in Palm Beach county.

Judy, the campground that we are staying at in Ocala has sites available, as lots of the Canadians have left. The sites are a decent size and in the new section of the campground, the occasional trees are small.

Paulette, I am being forced to leave St. Lucie on Monday, so i have made a reservation at Suwanee River Rendevous starting on Monday. I will be in Site 110, so stop by on Tuesday! I'll stay for at least a couple of weeks and then move up into Georgia, depending on the situation.

Thanks for the alternative, Irmi. Never know what will happen.
