What size is your dome?

You might check out these sites for help on cover for your dome; some interesting options:

Offers plans to make covers (scroll to bottom: http://www.byexample.com/projects/current/dome_cover

This one sell pre made screens, doors, etc (again near bottom of page) http://www.energistx.com/spaces/domes.html

Includes directions for building domes and making covers: http://www.skymind.com/~ocrow/dome

Interesting short discussion on covers http://www.weasel.com/dome_cover.html

Just interesting: http://domeguys.com/index.html

Clps that might be handy for all sorts of camping uses: http://www.shelter-systems.com/relieftents/shelter-fabric.html

Okay, I'll quit now. Didn't realize there would be so much related stuff out there. Good luck on project.

WOW...I never knew so many others had struggled with how to cover a dome, either! I need to go out there and take some measurements of the dome I have. It would be nice to be able to have a waterproof roof section with screen sides. And I will need to plan how much of the structure to take apart for access to the interior. I just think it'll make a fantastic permanent screen shelter. It's just a matter of deciding which way to put the screening and waterproof materials together to make it the most durable.

Thanks so much for all those links! I have bookmarked them and will look for some more ideas on piecing materials together. I would so love to get this job done for the GTG here this summer.

Soos, is your dome made with Star-Plate Connectors? I remember back in my hippie-dippy days I had every edition of Mother Earth News and they advertised them. I bought them and never got the opportunity to use them. Decades later I sold them on e-Bay for way more than I paid for them. There were all kinds of instructions for covering domes. I bet if you Googled M.E.N. you'd find them.

No, Sparkle---my dome is made from either 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch pvc pipe, melted flat at both ends, drilled, and bolted together at the joints. It was a project for the kids in engineering class at school.

Covering that----measuring it and counting the triangles and hexagons and all that good stuff first----should be high on my list of to do things. I got some good ideas exploring the sites that blue pinecones left for me this morning. Guess I'll get off here now and get my tape measures and go to it!
