Good morning Everybody, guess what? My trip to NZ and Australia was cancelled! So....I drove straight home from NC. The longest time driving for me. My shoulders and wrists hurt, but Peggy is once again in CT.

Hi Peggy & all who follow,

Glad you got home safely, Peggy. Sorry about your trip being cancelled, but better safe than sorry.

I thought I'd beat the rush to the store for a few things this morning. HA! It's total mayhem out there. Long lines to get into most stores, shelves empty, long lines to pay if you do find something you need. I was just picking up a few things but feel really bad for folks who didn't get out there earlier in the week or are in need of a few staples.

Well, I finally talked to my director about retirement. I've been working part-time for the past 2 weeks & have decided tending to the baby & trying to work at the same time is just too much. I've working on a special project so I'll get it as far as I can - but my final day will be in mid-April. I'm finally ready for this.
My DIL will be working from home the next 2 weeks, so she'll keep the baby with her & I'll have Olivia (her preschool is allowing parents to pull kids out for the next 2 weeks if they choose to). That'll allow me to put in more hours & move the project along faster.

This surely is an unprecedented time in our lives. Hope you all stay safe & healthy.
Take care,
Catherine

Sorry about the trip Peggy, but you don’t want to be there or on a plane either right now. Glad. You got home safely. Take it the Trek is all repaired.

Nothing much doing here. Just relaxing in the recliner letting my body heal. Things are coming around slow but sure. Really want to go to town, but too much effort getting in and out of truck right now. Maybe tomorrow or after my chiropractor appt. on Monday. Want to buy another bag of dry dog food and few perishable items. I saw a post, that our local Walmart is cutting back hours. Don’t need anything from them, but will hit Meijer.

Lots of closings And things cancelled up here too. 19 cases reported so far, all downstate, a number with history of International travel, which makes me wonder if a group tour returned home. One case was reported couple counties over, another international traveler, but she has not returned to the county, so no cases in northern MI or U.P. As of this morning. My church has cancelled masses till after April 6th as have all the Catholic parish’s in northern Michigan. I posted the notice on FB after reading it on our parish website and it is spreading likewildfire, which is good.

One of our little cal TV stations keeps a list of closures and I noticed one credit union on it. You all might want to consider keeping some green on hand, just in case. Haven’t noticed any runs on gas, but am keeping tank full anyway. Friend of Mi e said there were big lines at one of her local stdtions, but hard to saybif it was panic buying or cheap gas price.

With the kids all out of school and meals being a concern, one of the school districts and two hotels here, are offering free lunches for families in need. Take out only, and I’m hearing other communities starting to jump on the bandwagon too. The American Spirit is alive and well n the north.

So that’s about it from. E. Hope you have a nice Dsy, keep safe.

Raining here, finally! We are staying in. Have all I need for now. Peggy, good you didn't head to NZ- they just basically closed their borders, anyone arriving must go into 14 day quarantine and I'm sure being quarantined isn't your idea of a vacation! Stores here are open, as far as I know, but parts of store with paper goods and sanitizers are bare. Gas price hasn't dropped much here this week, only dropping from $2.87 just over a week ago to $2.85, so any lines at fuel station will be panic buying.
Lyn mentioned the other day, some tale about using water to wash virus into stomach and I wanted you all to know that's completely wrong and does nothing to prevent infection! I researched it. So many stupid rumors going around from breath holding tests to extra drink of water carrying virus to die in stomach acid, to the strangest I've heard yet, a group in india drinking cow urine thinking it will kill virus!!! If it sounds off or too good to be true, your instincts are likely spot on and if in doubt, consult the CDC site! And keep washing your hands and surfaces!
Got tail light installed on Night Owl. Now for virus and my medical stuff to pass by so I can plan trips! I keep looking at maps trying to figure out if I can make a drive to MN this year to hug my grand kids! It's a long trip when I'm limited on how long I can be gone but hate flying.
So glad we have this group to keep up with each other.

Schools are closed here too,and thankfully they are keeping cafeterias open so people can do pick up. It is so sad that for many children here the two meals they get at school are their only meals. Many schools also sent food home with the children on Friday for the weekend during the school year. I'm not sure if they will arrange something for that. They have several free lunch places during the summer but nothing like this has ever happened especially during the school year. My DH laughed at me the last couple of weeks when I bought extra paper towels and TP. I remind him of that every time I give him his daily ration! :):) I have a scratchy throat and felt I should decline our neighbors invitation to dinner this evening. I am going stir crazy plus it is a rainy, dreary day. You just don't know so though I should be on the safe side. ACK ACK ACK

I am so sorry about your trip Peggy. I hope it can be rescheduled fro another time. Sue hope your various body parts heal soon! I think you are right about going outside but I tend to stay inside too much. Catherine I'm glad you made the decision about retiring. It's been awhile coming so you are probably ready!

I ran out to a drug store to get more Aleve, which I need for the arthritis in my shoulder, and some tylenol in case I get a fever. Store was out of a lot of things. Then went to Kohls, and it was deserted, but I figured I knew what I wanted and they have automatic doors so I did not need to touch anything. Got what I wanted, but stores are going to start reducing hours and laying off employees if people are not going shopping because of virus concerns.

And finally, the main reason for my going out, was to John D, MacArthur state park to walk on the boardwalk over the pond area and out to the beach. Did not go on the beach, but enjoyed sitting on a bench overlooking the beach. Lots of families and a very busy place, but the nature center and gift shop were closed. However, I figured outdoor things were very safe because I would be away from others. Anyway, it felt great to get out.

Since sports have been cancelled one of the channels was showing a basketball game from 2015. ACK Seems like most things are closing for 3 weeks. I wonder if they think that's how long the virus will be an issue or they plan to extend closures if necessary. After seeing all the pictures of stores with empty shelves I am surprised at how well stocked our local grocery store and Walgreens were. I'll have to check them again on Monday. Got an email from the bank that if they have to close the lobby they will keep the drive thru open. I probably should have gotten some money yesterday just in case.

Didn't do much of anything today. The weather has been nice, sunny and 85.

Peggy, sorry your trip got cancelled but being in quarantine in a foreign country wouldn't be fun.
