rainy Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

rainy Thursday

Good morning gals! :D

Still laying in bed listening to the rain. Not a hard rain for now but supposed to be heavier rain later with possible Thunderstorms. The hike to Idyllwlld was changed to a hike right behind us here in the Indio Badlands. However, that isn't a good place to be with possible flash floods, with all the small slot canyons back there. So that was probably cancelled this morning too, since we are under a flash flood watch.

Went to a seminar last night here about the future of the Salton Sea. Was very informative. I guess they plan to let it mostly dry up but try to keep one part of it with water for recreation and waterfowl habitat. I guess there are no longer any fish in the lake since the salinity is 3 times the level of the ocean and killed off all the fish years ago. When I was down there about 8 years ago, there were dead fish everywhere along the shores. The problem now is with it all drying up, the dust from it gets picked up by the winds and blows up here causing respiratory issues for people. They are now trying to find a solution to keep it from getting into the air (the sand is mixed with salt and years of accumulated decayed birds, fish and barnacles). The area also is a bird refuge with hundreds of species of birds, ducks and other waterfowl stopping there during their migration south and north. It is a birders paradise!

It is getting lighter out now and I hear birds singing, so maybe a little reprieve from the rain for a bit.

Have a good day! :D

Judy, sorry about your uncle but he is out of pain now. Hope your aunt can adjust. It's hard to lose a spouse even when you mostly have your right mind. Yesterday was 2 years since Harold died.

I finally found the Christmas plate that has been missing since around Christmas time. There are some file folders standing up behind the printer and it was in one of them. I must have put the plate on the printer and opened the lid and it slid into one of the folders.

Louisiana is up to 14 possible cases of the virus. I don't think any of the cases have a positive except maybe the one from around Mardi Gras. My nose is running again so it must be allergies. I don't want to be going around people if I have to be blowing my nose. I have a campout next week. Just wondering if the state will close the campgrounds. Just about all the school activities and sports have been cancelled.

I need to move my Ficus tree back to the carport. Surely our cold weather is behind us now.

Things are changing very fast for me. My college sent an email out last night that we could not have proctored final exams, so student will all need to take exams online. This means that we have to change our exam to have several versions so that students cannot cheat. And since the exams start on Tuesday, we have to move fast.

Also, the class I teach is usually offered in a real classroom with two or three sessions being offered on various campuses. So this morning, we got another email saying that all classes are going to be offered online for Spring, which is March 30 through June 10th. There are already a lot of changes in my class, which I have been working on, but now I need to coordinate with the one other instructor who now must teach her class online, which she has never done. So, we chatted for over an hour today and I made at least syllabus changes in the master class, but have a lot of changes to make in the weekly material. Plus need to move stuff from my current class to the winter one, which is not easy. Whew!!

The good thing is that the other instructor already uses some of my materials in her 2X2 class and we get along very well, so it will be a little easier, but this semester is going to be a rough one to say the least! (A 2X2 class has two hours once a week in a classroom and does 2 hours online each week.)

Got to get back to work!!!

The storms are finally over! Almost 2 inches of rain here.

Yes that is a road here in the park. Several of the roads here are flooded but passable. They are asking people to drive very slowly so they don't create a wake that goes into the houses along those areas. My road is fine, just have the lake out back. There is a drain back there but a lot of the drains are either just full of water or debris. Many roads in the valley are flooded as are several up in the mountains. It just came so hard for so long! The thunder and lightning was amazing! Very rare to get that in the desert.

As for the Coronavirus, pretty much all activities here have been cancelled for the season (which ends on April 1st anyways). The governor has said that any activities or gatherings in CA that would have more than 250 people, must be cancelled or postponed. So no St Pattys Day fun :( . Even my church has cancelled their services and will just have them on-line for awhile. Pretty much everything in the valley here is on hold.

Also, I decided to sell my trailer. I found a buyer today and got a good price for it. I really don't think I will get enough use out of it right now. I have so many other things going on here for awhile that will keep me busy (well, that was before the CV, but do have my gourd art I want to spend time on), and I really need the money right now, especially if my hours get cut back or God forbid, things get much worse and the shop gets closed for awhile. I still have half of my property taxes to pay and also my income taxes coming up that I will probably have to pay in this year. Also have to pay the additional electric bill amount that I used above what they were prorating for the previous owner who was only here for 3 months each year. I will get that bill tomorrow. The $3K hit I took last month didn't help any either. I think I will wait awhile before getting something else to travel with, and am thinking it will be a van or small Class C next time. I want to get caught up financially and get debt-free over the next year or so.
