Harriet Tubman Day Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Harriet Tubman Day Tuesday

Postby BarbaraRose » Tue Mar 10, 2020 11:17 am

No golf today. Rained all night here so the courses are too saturated to be walked on. It is just cloudy for now but more rain heading this way.

Just still hanging out in bed with Lola. She is slowing down a bit this past week but is still eating, drinking and using her litter box well.

I just volunteered to help out with the library here for the summer. The guy who usually does it is a snowbird so he needs someone to take over while he is gone.

Have a great day! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

We had rain/drizzle most of the night, but it finally looks like it might be over. I need to walk to the entrance booth and pay for my last night and also have 2-3 loads of laundry to do, so have been waiting for rain to stop. Might even have a bit of sun.

Still waiting for the call from hospice, but I am not driving back there. I have a new campground tomorrow and that drive is too much. I have hung around the Venice area for over a month, and just need to move on. There are people who can deal with my aunt. Also, I have arranged cremation and everything, and can do what I can by phone. I also really do not want to spend another night in the parking lot behind the memory care facility!

I agree Judy time for you to move on I think you have gone above and beyond with your care and all the work you have done. Take good care of you now!!

Barbie, sorry about the rain spoiling your golf. Volunteering at the library sounds like a good idea.

It is raining here again but not very cold thank goodness! I feel as though I am waiting for the other shoe to drop as the old saying goes with this virus situation. I'm trying to be calm but...I don't think I am succeeding.

Louisiana had the first reported case of the virus yesterday. I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner since New Orleans is a port city.

Peggy, hope your repairs go well. Your 20 year old Trek is probably better made than some RV's that are made today. When I brought my motorhome in for an oil change I ask them to check everything because I don't know what the previous owners had done or not done. The only thing they recommended was that I change the front tires and I did that.

I got most of the bottom part of the yard mowed yesterday before it rained again. There were only a couple of passes along the ditch I could'n mow. I need to weed eat the dog yard or get a gate wide enough to get the mower in. The guy that comes to ride took the push mower in for me. If I can get that running I can use it.

Barbie, good luck with the new computer system. I always hated when they decided to make changes to the computer systems when I was working. There was always something that wasn't going to work. As time went on companies realized they needed better IT guys. One company had one guy that was about 23 trying to take care of 5 locations. We were always having problems.

I'm thinking about going to town but not moving very fast. I washed my hair so need to do something with it before I go to town. I can't believe it's been 6 weeks since my last hair cut. It seems like a week ago.

Good Morening, hooray, my taxes are done!!! I did have to pay a penalty on both Fed and State as I completely forgot to pay estimated taxes last year! Everything was fine until I got home from the Sept trip. Then everything in my mind went to hell.
I talked with my pulmonary doctor yesterday. Kaiser offered a phone consultation instead of an office visit because of the coronavirus. As I am feeling well and doing good, I accepted the phone visit.
Very little rain here so far....Lyn

Well, my furnace acted up again. The thermostat was ruled out yesterday for sure so that left a circuit board which was now replaced this morning. I feel confident this did the job. I had to pay today lol. Less than I expected, especially since they didn't even charge a service charge my last two calls to them.

Now I'm vacillating on whether to leave tomorrow or not. Temps are going down and rain for two days predicted. I'm not in a hurry and the weather could hurt plans Ginger and I made. I'm waiting on her thoughts before making a final decision.

Barbie, I enjoyed volunteering at the library here last winter. My time here this winter meant I couldn't commit to the times they wanted.

Happy Tuesday!

After I posted here this morning, I fell back to sleep. I woke up at 11 when I heard a truck pull up. It was the couple coming to get the washer/dryer. That was a mess getting that out, but I found out that the dryer is electric, not propane! I was told it was hooked up to propane. One of the water pipes is leaking now tho so I hooked up my garden hose to it for now so it doesn't get water all over the wall and floor. I have the water turned off now while I am at work so I don't have any surprises when I get home. Better safe than sorry. Will have to figure out how to cap both water pipes off. There must be a thingy I can get at Home Depot for that. The guy who took it is coming back on Thursday to patch the hole where the dryer vent came thru the wall. Then lots of cleaning! Tons of dust, dirt and debris where the washer was. Also found an unopened box of cookies that are not mine, so they were there from the previous owner. Once all that is cleaned up, I can get the cabinet I want to put there.

OK, back to getting ready for work!

Barbie, what you need is a cap for those water pipes. See what size they are and go to Home Depot in the plumbing Dept. If you can’t find what you are looking for or aren’t sure, just ask a sales associate and tell him what you need. There are caps for both PVC and metal pipes. Most water hook ups for washers have a shut off valve though. Seems like there should be one for yours. There’s always some water that will run out of the pipe till it drains itself. But put caps on anyway.

Judy, you have done your duty to your uncle, now it’s time to let nature take it’s course and unfortunately you can’t help your aunt much either. You need to take time for yourself and also heed the health warnings. You certainly don’t want to catch that virus. Please be careful out and about down there.

MI might have it’s first class, but hasn’t been determined as yet. A couple employees of the Bay Mills Indian Community, west of Sault Ste. Marie in the U.P. Said they may have contracted it while in Washington D.C. where they just returned from. They put themselves in self quarantine until they can be tested. It is possible they May have been around a few others up there upon their return especially with the Boys and Girls club. All activities there are now cancelled for rest of this week. So we shall see.

it started raining last night sorta a off and on thing...not hard enough to make the wash run but long enough there are spots of water in the desert...people are starting to leave don't know what the hurry is as there is still snow and chances of snow further up North... if it wasn't for the up coming birth I think I would stay down here till mid May it just feels safer  still don't know what I will do when I need to go to Vegas for a few days...but am really thinking of taking the trailer and moving into town... it would be safe there with the office people on the look out...guess we will see almost wish I hadn't told my sister I would come help but I know that she needs it...and I can do it so shall just need to make decisions.
got the dishes done and more made... made some no bake cookies for my treat to take to the fireside... also took a bag of popcorn it's called black and white drizzle from Popcorn Indiana in a red bag if you find it it's really good...wasn't overly happy with the no bake cookies sometimes they just turn out so good and then other times they are more on the dry side these were more on the dry side...
generator is still running as is the fridge... :D

I rarely make reservations but did for my next stop. I changed them today to arrive Friday. I want to keep testing my furnace for at least one day and might as well wait out the worst of the rain. They can't guarantee me 4 nights where I'm headed but if I just get two, I'll survive. My friend Ginger is driving there so we can play however long I end up with a site.

It's been raining most of the evening. I'm hoping it lets up soon so I can get Ty out a final time soon.

Sheila, I'm so glad your refrigerator and generator problems seem over! I think you said he got the Amish replacement. I've heard nothing but good about those boards.

Judy, you have gone above and beyond. Make sure you are taking care of you now.

I stopped at HD on the way home from work tonight and picked up a couple of pipe caps. I got some tape for the threads too. I noticed the one pipe had been leaking a little during the day even with the water turned off so must have been left over water in the pipe. There is a turnoff for them and they are as tight as we could get them. I put the tape and caps on and turned on the water. Lots of water coming out around the cap! I had it on as tight as I could with a pipe wrench! So I ended up putting the garden hose back on and running the other end into the tub for now. Guess I will have to get someone over to look at it. Will see if the maintenance guy here can stop over and take a look on Thursday.

It has been raining off and on all day but not much more than drizzle. Supposed to clear up some tomorrow but then really heavy rain and thunderstorms coming back in on Thursday.

Was definitely a learning curve with the new computer system. Instead of the full sized monitor we had, we now have an i-pad kind of thing to work on. The print on it is very small so will take some getting used to. May have to keep my reading glasses at the front desk.

I am going to do a better job of taking care of myself, but legally I am the only person who can make medical decisions for both. So I will get the calls about treatment or body disposal.

All of this makes me convinced about having “an heir and a spare,”. My ex was an only child so I made sure I had two kids so one would not have all the responsibility for me.

If you don’t have kids, you need to be especially nice to nieces and nephews.

Barbara, if you over-tightened those valves, ESP if they are old, you may have damaged the gasket in them. Might need to replace the valves.
Judy, having 2 children doesn't always help. I have two, but one is disabled and the other lives nearly 2000 miles away. And I have no nieces or nephews. All I can do is prepare as best I can with a family trust with pretty specific instructions. Hopefully my younger son will be retired by the time I need his help.
Had a sunny 77 degree day. No rain, though south of us had a little. Got paperwork from VA today and I was approved for a pay increase on disability, which always helps. Now to get the eyes taken care of.
