Trip to the beach...

Here are some pics I took on the way to Carlsbad, stopping at Welburn Gourd Farm near Fallbrook.

The windy roads to the gourd farm are lined with old oak trees making a beautiful canopy overhead. There are creeks running along the roads and lots of little hobby farms and some larger horse farms.

These are the uncleaned gourds. They are still covered in dirt and mold

These are the cleaned gourds. I bought mine from this bin since I am allergic to mold and don't want to have to clean them. They cost a little more but worth it for me.

tons of gourds as far as you can see!

enjoying my gourd search!

saw this guy also checking out the gourds!

On the way home...there is a guy who makes large metal sculptures and he put these horses on this hill looking like they are jumping over the road.

The overlook where I almost got blown off from the high winds! :o This overlooks the whole Coachella Valley where I live.

Wow, Barbie! You take really good pictures! It looks like you had a great time. Can't wait to see what you did with the gourds.

Great pics. I've seen those horses. I'm looking forward to seeing the gourd art you make.

Depending on the size, they are between $2 and about $12 each. And also depends on if they are cleaned and/or cut open and have the insides cleaned out. I got most of mine out of the bargain bin there. The really long necked one I got has already been cut open on the bottom and cleaned out which is fine with me. The natural markings on it are really cool tho so it should look nice once it is dyed. They sell transparent dye that lets those natural markings show thru.
