Lake Effect Snow Day

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Lake Effect Snow Day

Postby Colliemom » Fri Feb 28, 2020 9:29 am

Morning from snowy northern Michigan. Been having Lake Effect snow since late yesterday afternoon. About 3 inches so far. Windy, snowing and visibility is not good either. Good day to stay in. Schools are closed all over up here. Supposed to slacken off later this afternoon gradually. I’m not happy as wanted to go to our churches fish fry today. The NWS posted a graph earlier this morning of a 500 hundred mile long lake effect snow band being generated by the best and oisture from Lake Superior and Lake Huron, stretching from the eastern Upper Peninsula all the way into an interior part of Canada. Now that’s a long ways.

So guess, once I get moving here, I’ll head for the basement and finishing gluing down the rest of the popped up floor tiles in my mechanicals room. How or why thry popped loose I’ll never know. Was like that when I bought the place. Just in one area. Would like me to be painting my other bathroom, but haven’t picked out a color yet and this is no day to be looking for color chips at paint stores.

Barbie, hope you had a nice time on your little trip and got your beach fix. Those of us who were born and raised around water, seem to have those desires to seek out water no matter where we are. Just miss it. I do that on occasion too, when I get tired of same old around here. Take a day trip and refresh the soul. Recharges us. We all need it at one time or other.
Beth, I know that feeling of no more doctor appts. Alway good to get that stuff out of the way. I have a routine dentist appt. next week and then done with that till later this summer.

So, guess I had better get moving here if I want to accomplish anything today. Have a nice day everyone.

A chilly morning here with sun but a storm coming in and temps will drom 20 degrees . Will only last a couple of days then back up into the 50's.

Heading north to Salem today, going to check out Laura's new home and catch up on all the news. Going to hit a couple RV places and of course shopping for her new house will be involved as well as eating LOL

Hope everyone has a great weekend

Good Morning, I haven’t been doing anything worth writing about. One of the inhalers I am on is really making my throat sore. I will have to get that changed.
Barbie, I love the color you have chosen for the trim. Have fun in Carlsbad.
Sheila, I thought the niece was going to do the painting?
Karen, say HI to Laura for me!

Today would have been my mom's 104th birthday. She's been gone many years now but I still talk to her daily. She was a very special lady.

Barbie, I, too, love the colors you used on the shed. Sue, I'm glad the snow is with you. Actually I think snow is fun and beautiful... But I'd rather visit it occasionally, or have it visit me here on rare occasions where it disappears as quickly as it comes.

I cooked a hamburger in my little pressure cooker. It was a gigantic patty which came out quite tasty but I'd never do one that fat again... I like my burgers well done and it was taking forever until I took it out and cut it in half. Probably should have done that first. I'm not sure if it beats other ways of cooking them, but it does contain the mess.

I am at the motel in Carlsbad. Lots of driving today and mostly curvy and up and down back roads. So you really have to pay attention! Beautiful scenery tho! The wildflowers are blooming out this way already.

Stopped at the gourd farm near Fallbrook. Found some cool looking gourds that will make for fun projects, and got a few more supplies I need. I just need the dye to put on them (dye versus paint is more transparent and will show the interesting markings on the gourds.) I want to get the designs figured out first and then order the dye colors as I need them. Too expensive to buy the whole set of colors.

Stopped at the Vista Great Clips. Had a nice visit with my old manager and the guy I worked with there. Most of the rest of the stylists I worked with are no longer there. Then stopped across the street for lunch at Epic Wings (fomerly Wings & Things). Love that place! We don't have one down where I live so I wanted to stop and eat there while I had the chance.

Also stopped at my old neighborhood. My old house looks the same. My roommate and one of my friends there, were not home. I dropped off two milkweed plants I had, for my roommate since we don't seem to have any monarch butterflies in the desert and I know she would love to have more milkweed plants since she raises the them from caterpillars.

Stopped at an Indian Store to get a few things for my gourd art and then on to Carlsbad. This motel is cheap and I now know why. The walls are paper thin so I can hear everything next door and outside. Hope I can get a decent nights sleep tonight anyhow. My room has a mini fridge and a microwave. Wish I had known that earlier so I could have brought some food with me to eat here.

Didn't get to the beach yet. It is cloudy here and now is getting dark so will do the beach thing tomorrow, altho it will be quite a bit cooler here tomorrow with a front moving in. As long as it doesn't rain, I will be happy. Will stop at a few shops I like here tomorrow too before heading home in the afternoon.

Sue, you are right. Having grown up on a lake, I need to be around water at least occasionally. As for snow, if I can see it on the tops of the mountains off in the distance, that is close enough for me! If I feel the need to get up close and personal with snow, I can drive an hour up the mountain and see it, play in it, and then drive away and leave it behind!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

They finished work on the carport about noon so I decided to go to the Verizon store in Lafayette to get my new tablet set up. It came with instructions for me to move the sim card and what I needed to do. I have been through that before and I was not going to attempt it. It took 45 minutes at the Verizon store and they want me to do it. I think the traffic gets worse and worse in Lafayette. There is a lot of road construction so that doesn't help.

I can't remember something for 5 minutes. I needed to get gas in Lafayette and forgot. Thought about it on the way back to Abbeville but forgot when I went through town. I might have to put lawn mower gas in to get back to town.

I like a hamburger cooked in my little air fryer. One is all it will hold. I bought a package of chicken wings and cut them up and packaged them 3 to a package to freeze. Three wings(six pieces) is what my air fryer will hold and that's enough for a meal.

A Directv tech is suppose to come in the morning between 8 and 12. They have sent me 8 messages about it and he's suppose to call me when he is on the way. I'm not going to be happy if he doesn't show up.

My brother would have been 73 yesterday. Gone but never forgotten.

Barbie, have fun at the beach. My happy place is the lake where my sister and I go. I didn't grow up on water but I love it at the lake.

OK, so I am not gonna get any sleep tonight.
There is a train track right behind the motel and the trains blow their horn right here and come by frequently (the Coaster train for commuters. Don't they stop running at some point at night?). Then I turned out the light and discovered I have a mosquito in my room who is insisting on buzzing in my ear, so now I have a headache from slapping at him (my head)! Oh, and the furnace squeaks and rattles! Could be a long night! I should have paid a little more for a better place!
