Quartzsite Adventure

I thought I might relate my experience upon arrival in Quartzsite yesterday for the GTG. Having sold my RV at the end of August, in October I made a reservation at the Quartzsite Yacht Club Motel for three nights. Starting in late December I attempted to confirm my reservation to no avail. I received no return calls and was quite frustrated. After days of repeated attempts I eventually reached someone who confirmed my reservation. However, upon my arrival I was told there was no reservation for me and they were fully booked - in fact, double booked due to the incompetence of the staff. They finally decided they had a place for me and proceeded to walk me over to my new sleeping quarters.

Behold! The Good Ship “Mai Tai” and ‘nary an ocean in site for hundreds of miles!


I’ll give you a short tour of my most recent nautical command.

I’ve become quite comfortable with my new position as Captain of the Mai Tai. I’m considering putting my trusty mates to work swabbing the deck - as soon as I can get them out of the Captain’s bed.

That really looks like fun and a lot better than the average motel "room." And of course, having spent a lot of time in a motorhome, I can imagine you feel right at home!

Only problem I see i s hitting your head on the low ceiling!

No low ceilings or head banging Judy. However, there are 3 levels and going from bedroom, to galley to living area requires 3 hefty steps up and then down each time upon return. And of course, I always forget something and have to repeat the steps again.

Sorry you had so much trouble with the reservation Sandi but I love the end results!! Looks like an adventure and I enjoyed your narrative. Good luck with getting your deck swabbed, your mates don't look very motivated!

Sandi, I really like your accommodations but am curious as to what type of set up you have to enter and leave the Mai Tai? Have fun!

To answer your questions:

Irmi, this is the ramp up to the door into the Mai Tai at the living/dining level.

Martha, as far as cooking in the galley, it’s standard height so no cooking on knees. There’s a 14” step down to the galley from the living area. There’s another 14” step down from the galley to the bedroom. It definitely has been a fun and unique adventure.

Love it! ...but sorry about the stress of their not getting the reservation up front and clear. It reminds me of the picture I took while camping in the state forest on the way back from BJ's one time. It was a truck hauling a rather large boat. The boat was backed into the site, plugged in and serving as housing. No ramp though, just a steep ladder!

I got to see Sandi's yacht today. Other then those 14" high steps, it is awesome!
