Tuesday - One week to Christmas

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Tuesday - One week to Christmas

Postby Colliemom » Tue Dec 17, 2019 9:35 am

Morning all. Bit of sun this morning but won’t last long. Arctic front coming through later this afternoon and will trigger off lake effect snow. Winter Weather Advisory to take effect starting at 4 p.m. for 3-6 inches possibly 5-10 in some areas, reduced visibilities etc. but after that, some nice weather and a bit above normal temps. Those Great Lakes that Judy talked about that are so important to shipping and the economy of the country are also great snow making machines. Course wind direction determines who gets what or any.

So, will scamper off to Walmart this morning as new IPad I ordered is ready for pickup. Then can spend tomorrow transferring things over from this one. Do a couple other errands as well.

I had an interesting day yesterday that I’m sure many of you would not want. Long story short, drove out to a friend of my best friends from downstate as thry hadn’t heard from him most of last week after leaving phone messages on cell and landline. He lives alone, is estranged from family and is kind of a loner with not many friends. I’ve met him a few times when we went out to see him, when my friends came up to visit me. Anyway, things didn’t lookright around there, no snow plowed, no dog tracks etc. After checking with a back of property neighbor, went back, did some looking in windows, dog in house, light on in dining room, found side garage door up, carefully went in and found him dead on dining room floor. Neighbor drove down and aI told her t call 911. So was there for hour and a half with Police, EMS, Medical examiner, Animal Control etc. and the usual police reports etc. they think he was dead at least 4 days. Dog was taken to shelter. Later in evening after talking with best friends and getting a first name of his best bud down the road, I was able to find out last name and get a phone number. Called him and he was out working in a new house so hadn’t checked in his buddy for a few days either. Felt awful. But he is going to take the dog and is going after him this morning. So Happy about that. That is a persay remote area of the county, very rolling and wooded terrain, mix of farms and occasional house. Thoughts are he may have had a heart attack. He was in his 70’s.

Beth, sorry those LONG drives are really wearing you out  I’m sure you are enjoying the freedom of not workers big though. Martha, hope last night’s storms passed you by and Sarah too. Still nasty weather and tornadoes heading through GA.

Gotta a get a move on here and get up to town. Have a nice day everyone.

Mornin' ladies~~~

Sue we posted at the same time so deleted mine. Not real exciting, but here it is...

Figured I'd post a reminder for those that may still have shopping or baking to do.  My chore at this time of year is cards to a Mom & Dad. We pretty much stoppted Christmas a long time ago. My late sister Lynn's bday was Christmas and when her MS got really bad, she didn't want to celebrate anymore. She's gone 5 years now.

Not much else going on here. Still hanging around Texas. Currently in Austin. Not a whole lot to see around here without going into the city. Ugh!

Also may change my going to Florida route. Dad is still in Illinois and may not go plus I really don't want to go thru the bad weather LA, MS & AL have. I have 2 1/2 weeks to figure that out.

Have a great day ladies. Stay safe and stay warm.

Sue, I wouldn't have wanted your job yesterday. I'm sure his friends and family were glad you went.

I survived the storm. By the time it passed here it was mostly rain. It knocked the satellite off a few times but the rain gauge only has about a half inch of rain. I looked up the path of the 63 mile tornado and it only passed about 3 miles North of my sister. Yesterday it was 82 and this morning it's 44. It's suppose to freeze tonight and tomorrow but we can probably wear shorts for Christmas. CC went out for about 15 minutes but decided he wanted back in.

I still have the stray dog and I don't know what I'm going to do with her. If I thought I could get her in the car I would deliver her to animal control. I tried to take her out of the kennel on a leash. She didn't pull me down but hurt my back and shoulder lunging. The animal control place won't return my calls. I told them I would keep another dog if they would pick her up. They won't say that I'm fostering her or put her picture on the Facebook site. I'm sure it's because they don't want to be liable if she hurts me or kills a cat. I use to give them donations but they can kiss any future donations goodby. I posted her picture on all the lost and found places I know of. I had to cut the top and botton off of a spray bottle to make a funnel to pour her food through so I don't have to open the kennel.

My eat out meetup group meets tonight but after going out to feed I don't think I'm going. I have to be in Lafayette at 8:00 in the morning to bring 2 kittens to the spay and neuter clinic.

I have a pile of Christmas cards on my desk from friends and family that I need to send cards to. As usual, mine will be late.

Today is second cataract, leave in 2 hours. I'm even more relaxed today, and I was pretty chill last time. Looks cloudy today but wasn't supposed to rain. It's just over 40 out per my weather gauge , which I can actually read now from several feet away! Our shopping is about done, except a couple perishable items Monday. I bought and cut smaller, a big pack of stew meat yesterday. Before I leave I'll put it on slow cook with some seasoning, so I have dinner for next night or two. I haven't even looked at cards yet. The surgery stuff has kind of interfered. We did pick up a small gift for neighbors yesterday, so need to tag those and get them out in next few days. Son fell yesterday, stepping on a rock while unloading car. Thankfully he just twisted both ankles and wrist and we iced and I gave him ibuprofen and he will be better soon. My handyman is going to pull out the bigger rock his crew put there even though I had asked for packed pea gravel. Fist size stones are neither gravel nor safe to walk on! Just glad Chris didn't break anything! At least it will be done right aka the way I wanted to start, this time!
Have a good day, stay safe in whatever weather brings you.

Oh, Sue, I'm really sorry for the outcome but thank you so much for going out and checking. That was really a difficult day. :(

Cheryl, if not Florida do you have any alternatives thought out? And Martha, you should not feel in danger. I feel for both you and the dog. What a heartbreaking situation. And you animal control organization is definitely not a help at all. Sad.

It's cool today. Later I have a trail here I'll take Ty on. Otherwise a trip to the grocery store, maybe, will be part of the day.

Velda, here's hoping the second eye goes as smoothly as the first!

Wow!!! Time is moving fast! It was cold and clear here this morning. 44*. Sun is out now and is warming the city up.

Those storms that roared through AL and LA werehorrible! Glad to here you were not damaged Martha. Hope Sarah is OK.

Loved the info on the Great Lake Judy.

What a crappy humane society you have Martha. Did you read the book review I put on this forum?? The author also suggested putting signs in your yard of found dog. What about a notice up at that state park near you. Would a vet assistant be willing to drive to your home to at least see if there is a chip?

Yea Velda! Good vibes coming your way today for good results!!!

Surgery postponed because their laser broke down, so anyone today whose surgery was to use laser is postponed. I'm on for very early friday morning. The good news is, dinner is smelling delicious in slow cook mode of IP so I have meals for several days.my ride can't do Friday so called other friends and have new ride lined up. I also got over half myackages wrapped while waiting on call from Dr office re new date. And my handyman is re laying the walk his crew messed up, the one where son tripped and was hurt last night. Sun is shining and it's a good day even though I had other plans.
Sue, I'm so sorry about your friend. Glad the dog has a familiar person taking him into their lives.

I'll probably start looking closer to the forecasts on my route next week. If I decide to skip Florida, I'll probably do more of the Texas coast, try to get near Big Bend and maybe wander into southern New Mexico again do I could hit Santa Fe & Taos once the weather breaks. Haven't done northern NM yet.

Sue, oh my goodness, I can't even imagine what you had to go through. You are a dear person to check on him. I'm so glad his dog will have a home to go to.

Martha, just reading about the animal control in your area makes my blood boil. It was so nice of you to take him/her in to keep him/her fed, but that's not supposed to be your responsibility.

As Judyjb said, it was warm here but there is a cold front coming through and the heat will kick on tonight and all day tomorrow. It's hard to believe that one week from today is Christmas Eve.

I feel like I have been busy but when I look at things I don't know that I have accomplished much... a couple of loads washed dried and folded actually set at the table for supper ... told nephew that I was going to wash towels and planned on washing the tablecloth... he needed to take care of his stuff if he didn't he may not know where it ended up at... its still there including the bag with medicine in it. guess we will see when I get to the table in the A.M. cause I really will put it somewhere probably will tell his mom where it is..planned on rinsing out the filters in the vacuum haven't done that yet and you aren't suppose to use it for think it was 48 hours after rinsing them..probably part of the reason I don't think they have been done... so think I will vacuum and get up what I can and bring it up again if they still have carpet... it really needs taken out and redone... it's become a pee and poop field senior dog with as my sister puts it doggie dementia .... I think his time is close at hand...would be the kindest thing....it boils down to money... in all ways...
actually thinking of doing a fund raiser on FB never done anything like that but none of us have the money to off set all that she has racked up in the past 3 years...
will do what I can and go back to Q on Saturday want to be there before dark see if I can get my generator working and ice in the cooler... have to dump out the water that I didn't take time to do before I left..
I'd feel much better if she is in less pain and trying to get around before I leave if she hadn't fallen there wouldn't have been the concern...
Martha perhaps you ought to let the dog go... and call it in maybe they would come get it then... its really bad what they are doing or not doing... it was a good idea to see if the vet's assistant would come out and see if there is a chip... hopefully they will
Velda to bad that you have to wait for the surgery it will happen soon though... glad that your son wasn't badly hurt although it must be totally frustrating if they had just done it correctly to begin with...

Just getting in at the end of the day here...

Sue, what a sad and unfortunate situation for you (and your friend!). Glad his dog has a new home to go to. Poor thing must be very confused!

Martha, I would be afraid that animal control would put the dog down rather than find a home for him. Hope his owners turn up.

I worked a split shift yesterday and worked the afternoon shift today. Tomorrow I open and we have the corporate people coming in to check on things and watch us while we do haircuts to make sure we are doing things the "Great Clips" way. The owner came in tonight and gave us Christmas cards with a $50 bill inside! Nice gift!

I played golf this morning. It was a bit chilly but not complaining! I got some cash and a cute little pin for getting the hole in one last week!

It's the Parish Animal Control that I am having to deal with. They sent someone out to scan her for a chip and she doesn't have one. The guy told me he couldn't pick her up because they were full. I have seen on their Facebook page that they have taken in 5 dogs since he told me they were full. I'm sure he wouldn't pick her up because I have a large kennel she is in. I nailed her picture to the tree out front but I doubt anyone is looking for her. When I get tired of feeding her I'm going to get my son to come help me get her in the car and deliver her to them.

What kind of dog is she? Is she mean or just large and rambunctious?

Karen ran a dog ID app on her picture and it came back Australian Kelpie. I looked online and she looks exactly like one. They are a type of herding dog. She is a very muscular dog and is very cat aggressive. I tried taking her out of the kennel on a leash and she lunges trying to get to a cat. She will sit for a treat if there are no cats around. If she sees a cat she ignores me. We have always bought trained dogs so I don't know how to train one. I looked up the Australian Kelpie Rescue and there were 2 dogs in Louisiana. Both of them are at the local Animal Control place that won't take the one I have.
