Super sunny Sunday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Super sunny Sunday

Good morning to All from warm and busy Mazatlan. I'm glad this morning is a soccer on TV morning. Need some down time. Weve been keeping really busy. Thursday was Virgin of Guadalupe day so of course we had to go to Centro to the Cathedral and see all the delightful children getting their pictures taken.

The day before we spent in beautiful El Quelite. Took over 200 pictures. And could have taken 200 more. So much color and history there.
Also last night spent in the Plaza Machado to people watch, enjoy the Christmas lights, listen to the music and have dinner.
Of course I wrote about all of this on the blog. Mostly pictures that speak for themselves. http://travelinginrvandlivinginlasvegas.blogspot.com/
So far this year all is well with us. And all the construction around the RV park is done. But many of our friends - the regulars - are not here this year, either medical reasons or they have rented or bought houses here.
I've been reading but not commenting. Internet is spotty here. If you are traveling, may your roads be dry and trouble free.

I am off to St. Augustine in a few minutes, but one last posting about Great Lakes water levels. (Water levels, by the way, do not affect just homeowners--they affect shipping of grain, iron ore, and other bulk stuff from the plains to the east and to international ports.)

First, think of the lakes as extremely big, deep, slow, and long rivers that are connected mostly with restraints of some sort. Lake Superior, for example, is connected with Lake Huron by the St. Mary's River, which used to have a bunch of rapids, but now also has the Soo Locks. Water enters the lake from the shores, especially the northern shores, and drains out to Lake Huron, but slowly because it is so deep with only a narrow river channel at its exit.

Lake Michigan is connected to Lake Huron at the Straits of Mackinac with a 4-5 mile wide channel. The two lakes have such a wide connection that they are often thought of as one lake. Lake Huron has some very deep spots but it empties into Lake Erie through the St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, and the Detroit River. Outflow to Lake Erie is hampered by the rivers and by ice during the winter. Lake Erie is the shallowest of the five lakes, which is why it has always had a problem with pollution. It empties over Niagara Falls and through the Welland Canal into Lake Ontario, which is much deeper, although has about the same surface area. Once water gets to Lake Ontario, it heads east through the long and mostly-wide St. Lawrence Seaway.

Notice that while there are locks in a couple of places, there are really no huge human-built dams on this long navigable "river." So the water is not 100% controllable and varies with the seasons and the weather over long periods of time--some people say a 13 year cycle and others say it is much longer. But for ports with big ships coming in and out and homeowners along the shore, even two feet change in depth can cause real economic problems, which is why the Great Lake States and Canada have always fought anyone from taking the water from the lakes to ship it to Arizona or even bottle it!

The wind came up last night with heavy gusts all night and this morning. Much calmer now.

Not feeling very energetic today but need to get stuff done so gotta push myself up off my butt soon!

Lola isn't looking too peppy today so I will give her some subQ fluids and see if that makes her feel better. Usually that makes a difference.

I posted a new question on my "Battery..." thread.

Have a good day! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Yep it is Sunday & was nice & sunny for most of the day.
I'm trying to get Christmas cards out today. Down to the last group of them. Just need to get them done & in the mail tomorrow. Sent a large batch to the office in KS on Saturday - had a great experience at the Post Office. An USPS employee was screening folks as they arrived & helping as many as she could so we didn't have to wait in line. I was in & out in about 5 minutes! Wonderful service! Unlike Amazon deliveries which can get delivered to any doorstep but mine. Glad I work from home - once I see that something has been delivered I have to go look for it. The last 2 deliveries were outside the doors of other units - 307 vs mine at 301 (I can understand this one) but 288 vs 301 didn't make any sense at all. It's like a treasure hunt looking for my package! I'm going to use Amazon dropboxes from now on.
Working this week & then taking off next week. Looking forward to some time off.
Well, I'd better get back to those cards. ;)
Hope everyone stays warm & safe.
Take care,
Catherine
