Miserable Wednesday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Miserable Wednesday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Wed Nov 27, 2019 11:12 am

Good Morning from a very wet northern Michigan. Don’t think I need to tell you about the storms across the country as some of you are already experienced round one known as Winter Storm Dorothy which is now making it’s way through MI. Heavy rain is over through and now just cloudy. The U.P. Is taking the brunt of this storm with heavy snow, wind etc. There are so many warnings out for Winter Storm, High Winds, Lake Shore Flooding/Erosion etc., can’t keep track of em all. None here though. Round two which is named Elliott I think will arrive on Saturday and already battering the west coast. Ah, the gales of November.

Went to the indoor Farmers Market this morning in the downpour as this is a biggie for pre Thanksgiving stuff. Wanted some fresh eggs and some more butternut squash to cook up for the freezer. Got some fresh apple cider too. Can’t go to Saturday’s cause new dryer being delivered. Now am puttering in the kitchen making a jello salad and pumpkin spice cheesecake. That will go with me to cousin’s tomorrow, salad is for me here. Been a holiday tradition in my family for probably 50 years. I’ll probably be bringing g leftovers home so will have the salad to go with them.

Enjoyed the conversation about technology. I’m not a big user of it, but do have a smart phone with some apps I use, especially during summer camping season. But I am not a heavy user of it. I still have a land line here which I have closed captioning on for my hearing. Just makes conversations easier and it’s nice when it records to the answering machine built in. Much easier to read, get the info etc., then trying to listen to some of the rapid fire talkers out there. Also great way to screen robo calls. I look to see who’s calling, unfamiliar number, I don’t answer, let it go to answering machine. If the message starts recording and if it’s important, I can intercept the call. My robo calls have pretty much disappeared off the Adar screen. Very few people have my cell phone number so no bother there.

I do have an IPad and computer and there is where I do my business. Online banking, ordering, chatting etc. my phone is synced to the IPad, so any text messages from those who have my phone number, which is a different one than my landline, will come into my IPad. So I’m not addicted to phone. Half the time I forget to take it with me.

But one thing I’m wondering is, how many of you have security program in your phones. We all make sure or should be sure to put security like Norton or some other programs in our computers, tablets. IPads etc. but very few people I know, do it on their phones and there is a great route for hackers, especially if you use your phones for everything. I have a security software program called Trend Micro, http://www.trendmicro.com , which was highly recommended by my computer repair guy. It has been a top rated security program for a long time, although many people don’t know of it. He said it’s better than Norton and the others as thry are constantly keeping up with the latest viruses, threats and whatever else out there and will send updates right away. Then can remotely go into your computer and remove them too, should you find you have an issue. You only need to contact their tech guys. Granted, it’s not cheap, but well worth it. Cost me a bit over $100 a year, but it covers up to 5 devices, hence. My computer, Pad and phone are all covered and scanned every time I turn them on and everything I go I open to is scanned as well, apps, websites etc. You don’t see it, but it’s there and will alert if something looks fishy. Been with it for over 5 years now and not one issue of any kind, Hack or nothing.

Gotta get back to work here. Finish up the cheesecake, just need to mix some cream cheese, cool whip and the packet of mix together, put into my graham cracker crust and into the fridge it goes. Have a great day all, stay safe in these storms.

Good morning Sue and all who follow! :D

Yes, lots of storm action around the country! Minneapolis got almost a foot of snow and is still snowing there. We are sunny for now but rain moving in later today sometime. Need to get outside and cover my cart and put away the cushion on my swing.

I was asked to come in earlier than scheduled today so will be getting ready for work in a little while. Tonight, I will make the cole slaw since that tastes better if it is done a day ahead of time. Will make the corn hotdish tomorrow morning. I think we don't eat until 3pm tomorrow.

I picked up some eggs last night but had to get a dozen instead of 6. I will have to give most of them away since I rarely eat or cook with eggs.

Hope you all stay safe, warm and dry for Thanksgiving and eat lots of good food! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Hope Cheryl made it through the night with no problems. Saw a picture on Facebook of a 18 wheeler blown over just South of Amarillo.

I am looking for the recipe for the jello salad we always called "the green stuff". I have a photo album that has all my favorite recipes and it's about to fall apart. I'm sure I can find the recipe online.

Trying to make myself go to Walmart. I'm sure it will be a mad house. Hope they have more than one check out line open.

Martha, the one I make is from an old neighbor from way back and very easy

1 large package of Lime Jello
1 cup boiling water
1 can crushed pineapple ( I use the one in it’s own juice rather than heavy syrup)
1 cup small curd cottage cheese
1/4 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

TOPPING
1 4 oz. package cream cheese (I just get an 8 oz. and use part of it.
1tsp. Lemon juice
1 tbsp. Mayo

Add one cup of boiling water to jello, dissolve and then let slightly jell. Add rest of ingredients, refrigerate till set. I put mine in a square pan but you could use any shallow dish or whatever.

Topping

Soften cream cheese, add the lemon juice and mayo. Spread over top of jello mixture. I sometimes sprinkle some nuts on top.

I find d it easier to make the day before using so it has time to set and chill and let the cream cheese harden up again.

Hi everyone!

I've been watching the weather and sorry some of you are experiencing the snow, cold, winds and rain. I went to church this morning to practice for church, and the traffic on I-75 south was all but at a stand still where we needed to exit, so were glad we were able to get back to the campground.

We will make it in life without the newest and best of the technology, always have and hope we always will. Yes, we pay dearly for the security on our computers, too.

Have a good Thanksgiving everyone.

Another easy green Jell-O recipe:

1 Pkg. Pistachio Jell-O Instant pudding & pie filling
l can pineapple crushed or chucks drained - save juice if needed for salad
l pkg. mini marshmallows
l Cup chopped nuts
l container Cool Whip

Mix Jell-O and pineapple, then add all other ingredients. Let chill. Enjoy

I'm skipping the jello recipes... Skip jello everywhere lol. I also skip pumpkin pie.

Rain has started here, but no biggie yet. Got my doctor follow-up appt over with... Will see him and the dermatologist again in a few months before heading north. So now I can start getting ready to leave.

I went to Safeway after the doctors... Lots of people but not nearly as bad as expected. Tomorrow I'll make my side dish to take to my friends rv park for dinner. We eat at two so I'll plan a 1:45 arrival, hoping it stays hot and we eat on time.

Hi ladies~better late then never. :?
Yes, Martha I made it thru the winds yesterday, even tho I spent most of it in the truck keeping Punkin from being nervous. Wind gusts reached 70 mph so things were definately shaking. Round two is now a winter storm advisory tonight thru noon tomorrow. Ice/ snow mixture expected. Will hang at the CG tomorrow and do laundry.

Got to the American Quarterhorse Hall of Fame today, which was the entire reason for my trip here to Amarillo. Loved it!

Have a great day ladies and happy Thanksgiving.

Looks like I hit the weather jackpot today! It started out drizzling here in northern Georgia, but by 2:00 pm it was sunny and 73 degrees. I took the film off of the last of my windows and even had to run my AC for a few minutes to cool things down. Sorry to hear so many of the rest of you have had storms.

I am headed to Savannah, and looking forward to touring the city. I did it a few years ago, but will enjoy doing it again.

Cheryl, glad you got to go to the Quarter Horse Hall of Fame. The only time I have been through Amarillo it was closed.

I finally made it to Walmart and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. They had a lot of check out lines open. I even had something without a bar code and they managed to get the price fast without backing up the line.

Thank you for the jello recipes. I don't know why I think I need that for Thanksgiving. That's the only time I ever make it.

Watching all the people stuck on the roads and at air ports on TV. I'm glad I'm not going anywhere. I met a lot of campers headed to the state park. That is a good idea for Christmas, go camping and eat a sandwich instead of cooking. lol

One of the barn cats has been missing for 3 days and I had been looking for him. He does that ever so often. When I got back from town he was on the carport. When I went to feed one of the cats had a rat she was carrying around. She gave it to one of the kittens and he was carrying it around.

Got some things done this morning before heading in to work. Was pretty busy all day. Didn't get to sit or take a break for over 5 hours. Whew!

No rain today. The line of storms fizzled out as they came over the mountains. Another line of storms will be coming in tomorrow afternoon and those are expected to make it across the valley here. Lots of snow in the mountains tho! Should be pretty to see once it clears up.

Need to get busy with the cole slaw tonight. I can sleep in tomorrow and then make the corn bread hotdish in the crock pot. Will head to the club house around 2 to help set up. Dinner is at 3:30.

I talked to the girl at the storage place about my trailer. She said it was the main door to the trailer that was open. She said she tried to close the door but didn't think she was able to close it all the way. I just can't figure that out. I swear it was locked when I checked it later. I still want to see the photos she took Will stop there on Friday morning to see them. It is a real mystery!

today it was Disneyland day... when I took Shadow out before we left it wasn't raining felt nice finished getting ready to go ... we left came back to get a hat for the baby left got on the freeway when I remembered my jacket!!! no going back so we went ahead and got to the parking area when it started to rain and rain... we had come with poncho's however my grandson wasn't sure we were going to stay finally decided to... my son in law and daughter rented a jazzy for me how nice that was... well worth it ... went on lots of rides and it cleared up some time in the afternoon... but did buy a jacket was so cold that was the first stop and even at that was cold... as I told my granddaughter sleeves were wet feet were cold hands were cold so I was cold just now took off the jacket but right now wishing it was on. not sure what the temp is set at... Shadow did ok in the kennel but somehow he got part of his blanket in the water dish or tipped over the water dish a bit cause it is quite wet... going to stay "home" tomorrow only got a one day pass... and even though I had the jazzy there were places you couldn't take it...so did do some standing and walking...
tomorrow the family will be going back and doing more of the same and I will stay home and enjoy the quite... although I enjoy the family when they are around...
we will be sure and keep a eye out on the weather... we will be leaving Friday by 11:00. that is checkout time.. some things we have to do before leaving one load in the dryer and one load in the washer so that they can get it all done prior to the new people coming in...
we went to a buffet today for our Thanksgiving meal just seemed to work out better... suppose to be American food how ever except for the ham mashed potatoes green beans nuggets seemed to be more of an Asian buffet... fortunately most everyone could find something they liked

Glad you had a fairly decent day at Disney! Sounds like a hot shower was in order when you got back tho! Brrr! Good thing you had the Jazzy to ride around on. Saved your feet some! Too bad the weather didn't cooperate for you but sounds like you are making the best of it tho.
Safe travels back home. Supposed to be more snow into tomorrow. Just watch the reports for the Cajon Pass so you don't end up getting stuck on there. They may require chains as well.
