Frigid Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Frigid Tuesday

Postby Othersharon » Tue Nov 12, 2019 10:34 am

Good morning all from very cold PA. After a nice day yesterday with temps in the 50’s the bottom dropped out overnight. Temps right now only in the high 20’s. We had freezing rain so they were predicting bad road conditions this morning but we must be on the edge since roads are clear and dry. I picked a bad day to take Rascal in to be groomed. He needs a clipping but she’ll only take off what she needs to. No summer cut this time! I did find his warmer coat so will need to use that for a few days, I imagine. At least for the next few days until the temps go back up a bit. Thanks for sharing this with us, Sue. But you really didn’t have to! At least yesterday I got out and bagged more leaves. Still more to do but ran out of bags! I thought I still had a box of them but guess not. Little trailer is full so will need to pull it out of the garage to take them all to the dump. Project for when this front passes and it dries up a bit. So that’s about it for me today. Time to get busy and start some laundry and do some vacuuming. Have a good day and enjoy the day we’re given. Travel safe if you’re on the road.

Sue must have left the gate open and let all this cold out. It got down to 39 last night but they are predicting 26 tonight. I find that hard to believe. I don't find the wind as bad as they were predicting. Of course I have pipes that haven't been insulated.

I went to the doctor yesterday and he gave me another 6 day pill pack. Yesterday I was having to walk with a cane but this morning I can limp around the house. If I go outside I will need the cane. Sciatica is the pits.

Had my horrible colonoscopy yesterday. They found and removed two small polyps. Anesthesia was light, which was good because I do not like being completely put out. I even watched some of it on the big screen monitor!

Anyway, I am still in my son's driveway with 6" of snow on the ground. I was supposed to go out today and get propane, but I think I can manage until tomorrow. Have to keep the furnaces running because they duct into the tank area, but am worried about the water pump. Unfortunately, I can't do anything about it other than getting my son to maybe put a light bulb in that area overnight? Will ask him. I was also thinking about getting a remote thermometer for that compartment. What I REALLY need to do is get good results on all of my tests and GET OUT OF HERE TO FLORIDA!!!

Martha, hope you get some relief soon from your sciatica! I have had that and it is so painful!

Judy, glad you got your colonoscopy out of the way! Those really suck! Hoping for good results! Time to head south!

I almost feel guilty saying I had a great time playing golf this morning but it was a little hot in the sun! I broke out in a sweat playing putt putt golf! :o   Had one bad hole, a 6 putt on a par 3 but made up for it on the next holes. So did pretty good again. Great group of women! :D

Off to work this afternoon. Was pretty busy yesterday with the free vets haircuts.

Started my antibiotics last night for my UTI and, crossing my fingers, no side effects so far. It is one I haven't taken before. I usually get nasty side effects from antibiotocs. If this one works well, I will have to keep it in mind for future needs.

Enjoy your day and stay warm for those of you in the cold this week! Yikes! So glad I don't have to deal with that anymore! :o

It's a beautiful Northern California day, 74 degrees. But still no rain in sight! I'm headed out to lunch at 1 with a college friend. We always enjoy talking.
Barbara, I have to wonder why you get repeated bladder infections. I did years ago. But learned I was not staying hydrated enough. Did several things that helped : changed to cotton only undies. Drank more water, ESP if I felt it coming on. Took cranberry capsules with slightest symptoms. But the biggest was, I stopped gluten, based on a article I read on symptoms of gluten intolerance (not full on allergy like celiac). I was shocked how much better I felt after years of feeling like I had to pee so much of time but ESP when I tried to sleep. I mean within just a few days of giving up glute, my symptoms were gone. Then after about a year of GF, symptoms began to creep back. New study showed it might be all grain! So I stopped all grain. Once again all symptoms stopped! And now 2 1/2 years later they have not come back unless I let myself get a little dehydrated and hydration fixes it within an hour. It's worth giving no grain or at least GF a trial, watch carefully as its sneaked into foods. Sure won't hurt, and just might help. Sure surprised me after nearly 70 years of grain and over 20 years of symptoms., you may think, I can't give up my toast, but feeling better and staying better is worth it to me!
Judy hope results are good and back soon so you can head south! my Dr keeps urging me to have colonoscopy but no thanks after much reading.
Martha, hope sciatica is better, I've been using some stretches I saw on YouTube channel by 2 physical therapists:Brad and Bob, which have helped me.
I feel for those of you in the cold. My son in MN reported -5 this morning!
Have a good day everyone.

Ir was 60 degrees and beautiful Sunday, yesterday cold with wind and rain. This morning we had wind chills below zero, 3 inches of snow with ice underneath and two dogs who had grooming appointments at 9 AM! So Sharon I definitely feel your pain. We rarely have this type of cold until January and weather is usually pretty nice until Thanksgiving. Something went wrong this year!.
Martha I hope your sciatica gets better soon!! Do you know anyone who goes for massage that could give you a recommendation? Sometimes a good massage person can fix or at least help the issue. Barbie, have you tried D-Mannose for you UTI's It is over the counter and seems to help keep them away, some Urologists are recommending it now. I found acupuncture to help. Judy hope you can head south soon!!

Emma has been to a couple of two day dog shows and now has her UD and 2 'legs' toward her UDX in obedience!! If anyone is interested I've added a link as to what the dog and the handler are expected to do for these classes. It has been years since my first husband and I showed and trained dogs for obedience and it has really changed. It is a lot more difficult now. http://www.canismajor.com/dog/udxtitle.html

I always get restless and bored when it is bad outside. I can think of all sorts of things I could do if the weather just wasn't so yucky. I guess I'll go read a book!

Made it as far as Joplin today. A little over 650 miles. Josef and I are tucked in for the night and will drive a much shorter distance tomorrow to set up for the dog show. I didn't leave the house this morning until about 8:30 and the roads were all clear from the ice and snow that blew through Monday and Monday night. I did however lose count of the 18 wheelers that were jack-knifed and otherwise off on the sides and in the ditches along I-70 in Indiana and Illinois. Monday appears to have been a hard day/night for truckers in the mid-west......

The farther west I drove the little bit warmer it got, too! It actually ended up about 27 degrees. Much better than when I loaded up the van back in Ohio!

it's 62 outside according to the weather on phone not sure where that is at according to my outdoor thermometer it's 75 out didn't feel like it when I was outside though ... I am pretty sure it's wrong... keep it in the front bay says to not have it where the sun will shine on it... but I also think the heat lingers in there.... but that is a unproven theory
went to Parker didn't get the ice chest but looked at it 84 dollars not to off from the one on line same brand igloo... but it's huge and I thought it would be but not sure it will fit inside at all ... and if I put it outside would the heat of the sun negate
the getting it... but suppose to be 7 days on ice depending upon temperatures. I wish some of the smaller ones had the spigot to drain water with but didn't see one just this larger one.... if I had found one with it I would have considered a smaller one but then the interior was much smaller than my old one.. decisions!!!
got home and my friends almost beat me here didn't even get all the groceries in.. and after trying to figure out how to drain it even talking with my son in law didn't help as SIL couldn't recall enough to walk us through it... buy my friend looked at the dip stick and it's clean so assuming the rest is added some oil and called it good will keep an eye on it ...and it started better tonight perhaps it just needed a glug of oil
stopped at McD's for ice cream and they were out can you imagine??? was disappointed as I was really wanting one..and had to cross traffic and they were out!!! grr as my dd would say
hope you can get on down the road soon Judy not fun being in the cold
Tina good luck at the show
you all have a good one

OK, there needs to be a rule against those living in warm places describing all the warm-weather things they are doing, while the rest of us are SHIVERING IN THE COLD!!

I put a light bulb in my water pump area, and my tanks are toasty warm (really, I checked the temp), but the big problem is that there is a good chance I'll run out of propane tonight! If it happens, I will get dressed, put on a robe and coat, and go into my son's house to sleep on the couch. (Will take my own pillow and comforter, of course.) Plan is to get up at around 8 am and head to U-Haul to get a propane fill. I would have gone out earlier but my slide awnings were full of snow and I could not close them. Son was grumpy about getting ladder out but he got the snow off. I am spending the night with slides closed so all I have to do is unplug, and I can go.

I was going to do it around 9 pm tonight and then my sanity returned, and I realized I had no business driving a 32' vehicle in the dark on icy roads!!

Wish me luck with my PET scan tomorrow. And with my propane lasting the night.

Fingers crossed for you with your propane, Judy.

And, Judy, the link I'm about to post includes one of your favorite camping spots. Another is a place I workamped at (in fact I just posted a pic of Lyn, Sandi and I at a restaurant in the town it was in a few years ago on FB). I got a kick out of some of the places included.
