First Saturday of November

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

First Saturday of November

Postby Colliemom » Sat Nov 02, 2019 7:56 am

Good Morning. Light snow coming down here this morning. We have anywhere from an inch to a dusting depending on whether in the open or under trees. Rain/snow, bit of upper 30 degree weather and the coldest air of season on tap for this weekend and next week. Hard to say if wi term is here to stay or not. It can go justvthe opposite in mid month

I see a few of our “rabbits” posters haven’t been around in a while. Guess a lot of us are getting into other things and RV’s and adventures aren’t one of them. Beth, glad you heard from Lyn, so hoping she can get back on here. I’ve noticed that Martha hasn’t posted in awhile either. Peggy, glad to hear from you. Hope your party goes off smoothly.

Judy, I agree on the Catch 22 with the SS. I lost my Medicare card and called to get a new one sent. Was told it would be a month. Month came and went, no card. Called and was told same thing, but she did give me a claim number for an upcoming doctors appt. plus said she would send a letter proving I was on SS. Letter came and still no card, so made 3rd call. This lady said she would send a second card. Finally got one in the mail a couple weeks ago. Whether it was the original one or the second one, who knows  Be interesting to see if I get another one.

O’Sharon, nothing like camping out in your house  Be careful with those gas appliances, And you have an RV with a beater in the yard, but put away for the season. How ironic.

Off to monkey with my scrapbook. Don’t forget to change your clocks, those in tbe states that do.

Good morning, we are having great weather here. In fact we have had a super spring, summer, and now fall. Let's hope winter doesnt torture us LOL 30 out right now, but will warm to a sunny 70, I will take it.

Not much else going on here, laundry and a few housekeeping chores. Need to go over to the Motorhome and get more packed up. Cant really do it until about 11am as it is just way too chilly for this girl ha ha

I need to go to the store today to get some ingredients to make Chinese Cashew Chicken in the crockpot tomorrow. Laura made it last night and gave me some tips to tweak it a bit more. It looks super good so I am anxious to make it.

Might tackle more leaves later this morning I am trying to stay on top of them so I dont have so much to do all at once. Want to get them up before the rains come (whenever that will be).
Still having morning coffee, then breakfast and will start my day.

This year has flown by so fast! My GS camping chapter doesn't camp in December, so the Nov. outing is our Christmas one. That's in 10 days. Can't wrap my head around planning what to bring or wear, etc. for a group holiday dinner at a restaurant and party that evening with grab bag gifts, card exchange, etc. not to mention where these clothes, jewelry, decorations, etc. might be hiding out since last December! I'm still trying to get used to writing 2019!

Karen and Laura... Let us in on those tweaks, please.

Today is the parks rummage sale. Most people donate items to the park and the monies go into the park funds. And it's huge. Then many people also have their own sales (I sold my scooter during this last year). Yesterday afternoon residents had an opportunity for first purchases and I ran down to look... Mainly want a smaller fridge/freezer and a love seat/futon for the casita. No hurry. Unfortunately all the fridges were gigantic. But instead of what I thought I wanted I found a wonderful reclining chair for $20 that fits my short body/legs... So quickly grabbed it. I never went inside the club house for what's in there. I'm afraid I'll spend money lol. I'll probably check it out this morning anyway... Along with the crowds.

Like Karen I'm not in a hurry... It's cold early. But will be sundress weather later.

Evie, you snuck in. Don't you love how things disappear? And how time flies faster and faster every year now!

Here is my "poor Daisy" photo of the trick'or'treating dog. Except she did not get any goodies, poor dog.

A little over a month ago Hank got out. I walked the roads and fields for a week and never found him. The neighbors all knew him and helped me look. He had an ID tag and current rabies tag so if anyone had found him they could have called me. He was having a hard time getting around so don't know how he got far enough away that I couldn't find him. It just kills me that I never found him.

All that walking aggravated my hip until I was in so much pain that I could hardly get around. I finally went to the doctor last week. He says I have sciatica. The medicine he gave me has helped some but not a lot.

Martha, sorry about Hank's escape. What ever happened I hope that he did not suffer but the unknowing makes the hurt all the more. And wishing you some relieve on the sciatica issue. Many of us have endured it and relief can come in different ways - Acupuncture, Chiropractic, Tens Units, Cortisone shots, Massage Therapy, good Drugs.....find yours...must keep walking......was my mantra.

Hello everyone!

Martha, I'm so sorry to hear about Hank's escape. Just reading about it hurts and hope that he will reappear as mysteriously as he disappeared. I used to have extreme sciatica pain until I had major oral surgery almost two years ago and the pain just left.

Sorry I haven't posted and it's hard to believe that we returned from our big trip five weeks ago today. This past week, we left to meet my sister and bil in Marathon FL and spent a day in Key West while we were in the Keys. It was a long trip but so worth it to see them for a couple days and the sites in between. The weather is still very mild in Ocala, although cooler than it w as on Thursday when we returned from southern FL. We will get into the mid 70's today and the beginning of the week will return into the mid 80's.

Looking forward to hearing from Lyn to hear how she is doing.Good morning everyone! Like Beth said about being glad she doesn't have a house anymore, I'm beginning to lean in that direction. There are pros & cons and still trying to figure out which way to go.

Whether you are on the road or home, stay safe!

Martha, my heart aches for you and Hank. So sorry.

I've had sciatica for a long time. I'm able to control it without meds but have to be very careful driving. I learned positions that kept it from acting up in my cars, but it's always a gamble in the rv.... Another reason I try to stick to shorter days. And if I can use cruise control more often, that helps, too.

Back in 2012 when I got my RV and drove up to the Oregon GTG, I was in agony from what turned out to be sciatica that started during the drive. I don’t know what it was with the RV seat, but as soon as I got one of the special cushions with the open space for your tailbone it cleared up quickly. I think continuing to walk will help, slowly increasing as it improves. I recently saw they had those cushions at Costco for a reduced price.

Sandi, I've tried several back and seat cushions in the rv's. Some have been better than others. But the depth of the seats with my short legs causes the back of my knee to not be able to be in a good position while my foot is on the accelerator. That aggravates my sciatic nerve. If I can use cruise control now and then I'm good. I love the west and that means mountains and often longer periods I don't use cruise. So I stop as often as necessary and walk around and make my driving hours shorter. That works for me. If I say I've driven a long distance... It usually means I've been on cruise control a lot. My car isn't a problem, with the shorter seat n

Beth, when I got my motorhome, I tried several cushions, even the gel kind, but they also hit the back of my knee and drove me nuts. What I finally did was order one of those slanted foam pillows that they sell for people who need to be propped up when they sleep because of acid reflex. It was about 6" at the back and 1" at the front, but it was much too big, so I got out a serrated knife and sawed at it until it was rounded like the seat and the right size. Then, I covered it with a piece of old sheet and pinned it in place.

The result is that it boosts me up but does not bother the backs of my knees or backs of my legs. One problem is that the foam is a little too soft. Ideally, the bottom half should be stiffer and the top softer.

Mine is wearing out now, so I am thinking of finding an upholstery place and getting someone to cut me the right size foam and then cover it with something. Maybe even glue together some stiffer stuff for the bottom and softer for the top??? I thought I could take what I have in so they could use it as a pattern.

Martha, it is good to hear from you again but I am so sad to hear about Hank! It is so heart wrenching not knowing what has happened or if they are OK or not. I went thru that with Lola while she was gone for several months. My heart breaks for you!

Definitely getting busier at work. Did 14 haircuts today. Was tired by the end of the day. Not used to working 8 hour days. Also was wearing a new pair of shoes and they were bothering my pinky toes towards the end of the day. Need to get them broke in some.

Have tomorrow off. Lots of catching up to do around here since I got nothing done last weekend because of my back.

Tuesday is the start of the Ladies Golf League here. I wanted to join that but think I will wait to make sure my back is OK for sure. I want to go to the driving range and hit some balls first to test out my back, shoulders and elbows before committing to the league. However, there is also a 9 hole putting course and a league for that on Tuesday as well. I am pretty sure I can handle that so will give that a try. On Thursday is an official Welcome Back party with a dance at the main clubhouse. Should be fun! There are so many activities starting up now. I can't do a lot of them due to having to work so I have to pick and choose just a few. I want to go with the Hiking Club on their easier hikes so I have requested a few of the days off for the hikes I want to participate in. The Yard Sale is in 2 weeks so I need to get ready for that as well. Have lots of stuff to put in that.

It's only 9:30 but I think I will head off to bed soon. I am very tired tonight. It is Daylight Savings Day so will get an extra hour of sleep tonight too. CA voted to end DST but so far that hasn't happened. Not sure why there is so much red tape with that. I know Florida and one or two other states voted to end it too but none have started it yet. How did Arizona get to do that? :?
