My bad and GoodRx app

Going through papers yesterday, I found I misspoke about medicare paying for my shingles shots. However, I do not have drug coverage so it may be that they do.

Has anyone used the GoodRx app? If Walmart will honor it, my cost will go down from $54 to $26. Will try it Monday.

I used it and saved when I had my asthma episode a couple winters ago. It's always worth checking. In fact I ended up going to Walgreens because they had the lowest price through that program.

My Medicare and insurance pays for pneumonia, flu, and the new Shingrex (new 2 shot Shingles) and it also paid for the original shingles shot and the medication when I got the shingles!

I am interested in what you find out with the GoodRX app. I have one med that I quit taking because of the cost and it wasn’t life saving. I have another that costs me both arms and a leg but it “might be” life saving so I am continuing with it for right now.

I will be having a sit down with the FL Elder care folks (SHINE) to see about what changes will happen for me with my change of residence. It looks like costs may go down for the RX and Medigap program - so I could get a raise, well my monthly premiums may be reduced! I could live with that.

Looking forward to what you experience Anita. Beth were you only able to use it the one time? I don’t remember if there were restrictions. I need to go look it up again and see who, what and where down here.

No limit to use that I know of.. But I rarely take meds so haven't needed to use it. But I need to see if my Part D covers Shingrex because I haven't gotten that yet. If not, I'll be checking GoodRX.

with my Medicare advantage plan the copay for shingles shot was $75.00 at Walgreens

I got the first shot on Friday. The doctor sent the prescription over to the pharmacy and they told me it was covered. I’m not sure if Medicare pays for it or if it falls under my Tricare coverage. Just know I didn’t have any co-pay. This has been on my to do list but with Judy dealing with shingles and sister pushing it I decided it was time to push it to the top of the list! And better yet the pharmacy will notify me when it’s time for the second injection! So thanks Ladies, for the conversation!

I’m glad some good things came from my shingles! We tend to put things off unless something pushes us

I bought a long term care policy 20 years ago when a slightly older friend had a stroke and lost her verbs. Yes , she had nouns but could not add verbs to make sentences. She would say something like “GM bad.” (That’s where she had worked and where we became friends). She was 55. And then a 30 year old in our office had a stroke when she was pregnant and lost control of one side. Her mother and mother in law had to take care of her, her three-year old, and eventually her new baby. It was my wAke-up call!!!

Pain is very slowly getting a little better although it is still bad at end of day. I even wore a bra for most of yesterday, which I have not been able to do in over two weeks. Shingles are dried up completely and pale. They don’t hurt—pain is deep in muscle. Now I need to find out if I can get my flu shot since I am taking anti-viral meds for several months, possibly even a year.

Judy, I am seriously considering getting the shingles shot, especially since my Dad got it, and never really got rid of it. He had it on his face and in his eyes and was miserable the last five or more years or his life. I, too, have the long term care insurance, and I think this was year four or five for me. It's pricy, but not as expensive if I had to pay out of pocket for it for years at a time. If I'm lucky, I won't have to use it, but it's there if I do.

Shingles in your eyes is a really scary complication of shingles. It is supposed to be incredibly painful and irritating and can cause blindness. Other scary data is the answer to question, how long does the pain last? Answer: From two weeks to six months or possibly forever! It really must have been miserable for your poor dad.

Like the flu shots, the shingles shot may not completely prevent shingles, but it will give you a much milder case, such as I had.

I wonder if I can do anything right these days! When I checked GoodRx, I neglected to get the price for the 90 day supply. WalMart prices are good as is so no extra savings for me.

One of my friends had shingles in one eye. She refuses to get the vaccine so who knows what the next thing may be for her. That was about 5 years ago and she still has episodes from time to time of itching, burning, tearing. My sister’s MIL had shingles in her 50’s around her waist and complained of pain until her death at 78. My shingles were barely a raised bump, and very little discomfort but I stayed away from the baby for three weeks when I was cleared to have contact. The pharmacy will call me when my 2nd shot is due, also.
