Dry (very low humidity) and breezy here though I think we are through most of big wind. Smoke in area from a controlled burn up the hill which was blown out of control. If its still smoky by evening I won't go to football game. Can't risk stirring up asthma.
On Shingles. I speak from experience. I've had Shingles 3 times! Once full blown, back in my early 20's and twice got symptomatic but was treated in time with anti-virals though still had some nerve pain. For quite a few years, I was told No don't get the shot, it might trigger a flare, by Dermatologist and my family Dr, as well as PhD in pharmacy. Now they are reversing that stance, yet I'm told months waiting list as its in short supply! What I did learn, before the last bout, was, Lysine, one of the amino acids, is very effective in stopping the replication of the virus involved in both Shingles and cold sores. In fact there are Lysine creams for cold sores, which are caused by virus. I began keeping Lysine capsules on hand. Last time I realized I felt tired and began to get the nerve pain that precedes Shingles, I right away got on Lysine with full doses several times a day while waiting for Dr to send in RX for anti-viral. It seemed to shorten the entire bout, including shortening the post heretic neuralgia , nerve pain. Then a few years ago, one day, Mel said his side hurt and burned and itched, could I look. Holy Cow, I exclaimed, you've got Shingles. I ran to the cabinet and gave him full dose Lysine, then waited for the Dermatologist office to open. Got him in, Dr confirmed my diagnosis and set him up to take anti virals. This was when his immune system was already compromised by cancer treatment. The Dermatologist said, the Lysine was the very best thing I could have done and to continue it as Mel took anti virals and healed, which he did faster than predicted for someone not on Lysine, and ESP for someone with immune system compromised. I don't get cold sores but I get a virus in the nerve in right side of my jaw near side teeth. It used to hurt for days, then break out on gum as I tiny ulcer, taking 10-14 days to go away. Dentist said not much we could do but use a steroid and anti inflammatory cream. Then I found Lysine. When I'm under stress that little virus pops up with nerve pain. Now days, soon as I feel it, I take 2,capsules of Lysine and repeat twice a day until pain is gone then once daily for few more days. Usually only have to take it a day or two and it goes away, instead of getting to ulcer stage and lasting weeks. My dentist said yes that works, use it. So, i recommend keeping Lysine on hand, in a dark cool dry place if you yet any type nerve involved virus, whether cold sore or other, because even the vaccine is not 100% effective. Hope this helps someone else, because I'm sure glad I found out and did my research on it years ago.
