Yep, Fernie - and I cranked and cranked cuz I wanted that ice cream LOL
We never had a party line that I remember at home, but I remember I loved going to my cousins, where I would just pick up the phone to talk to the neighbors LOL - of course, I did that when it was "their" ring - I didn't care who was calling them, just thought it was so cool. I had to be told that wasn't proper etiquette, but luckily their neighbors didn't mind.
I also remember going to the same cousins - they lived on a farm in a small (very small) town and no matter what time of day or night we drove there - they had had 3 or 4 phone calls to tell them we were almost their by the time we pulled up. And I loved the soda machine at the gas station there - had cream soda in those litte bottles. And the general store had a lot of penny candy - better than anything by us in the city. Oh, I loved if we came through during the day and got to stop there first.
And no air conditioning, when we got a tv, it was black and white. Oh, and when we visited on the farm (in Iowa where they do have winter) during the winter, only the downstairs got heated. The upstairs rooms had vents in the floor where the heat rose through. Well, they didn't heat ALL the downstairs, so some of those bedrooms were downright cold. You slept all night, and when you woke up in the morning, you got dressed under the covers and RAN down those stairs to the potty - then to the kitchen where the stove was on and it was toasty warm.
