Morning Everyone, Beautiful day on Maryland’s eastern shore. Doing laundry in the water saver &#*%# washer. My clothes did not feel clean. Thought if I get caught in a storm my clothes would become one ball of suds. Checked on line and you are suppose to add 1-2 teaspoons of detergent per load. Add detergent to washer first then clothes. That explains a lot. My jug of detergent will last the rest of my life. Tina, I’m getting excited for your trip to Scotland. A place close to my heart. My bff sister-in-law was born in Scotland and came to the states with her war bride mother when she was one year old. Her mother was a feisty, beautiful woman, all 5 feet 100 lbs of her. She reminded me of Sparkle. Think I will sit on the balcony, make engine noise and pretend I’m rving. Safe travels

It's still morning, amd I'm here, wonders never cease! Curves went into shock when I walked in before 10!
Got neck adjusted yesterday, feels better, sore but not painful. Will hydrate then shower then begin packing for my Friday long weekend trip. Had a little rain today! And that's a good thing indeed. Decided between rain and neck to skip the cemetery trip. Decided not to celebrate his burial but to celebrate occasions like veterans day, his birthday, memorial day. Today was a year since he joined fellow vets there in Dixon.

Had a little rain today!

Rained here a little bit two days ago, more rain this morning! Was out walking around "downtown" Marysville this morning (Dang! The Candy Box was closed! They have the best chocolates, definitely rival See's Candies), sprinkled a bit as I was walking. The smell of moisture in the air, and the feel of the moist air on my skin was definitely delightful!! Almost a "long-sleeve" morning - almost, but not quite.

Generally, rain like we have had the last few days tends to really damp down (no pun intended!) the potential for wild fires (provided it does not get blisteringly hot again). Also, again generally speaking, once a bit of rain and cool weather comes through (and there may be more on the way!) the fire season is often pretty much over.

One can but hope!! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Shirl, you better be careful making engine noises. You might get sent to the funny farm. lol I think that's were I live. I have one of the front load washers that doesn't use much water so I alway pick the cycle that uses the most water. I have to be careful how much soap I put or it will give some message about too much soap and I have to rinse clothes again.

I went to town this morning to get gas for the mower because my son wanted to use the truck. As soon as I got on the road the tire light came on so I turned around and came back to air up the tires. Then I noticed the engine light is on. It's always something. I went and got the gas and have to call for an appointment. I have to wait until I have a ride home to bring the truck.

I got part of the yard mowed before the rain hit. We are getting rain from the storm going into Texas.

Last night the Meetup was at a Latin restaurant. The food was different but very good. I had a patacone, which was a pork sandwich with cheese, lettuce, tomato, avocado and green sauce. Instead of bread it had fried green plantains for the out side. The green sauce was like an avocado dressing. I would definitely eat there again. It's a small place that I had never noticed before. The lady that runs the group tries to pick places that you normally wouldn't go to.

It has definitely been raining in all of the parts of Oregon and Washington I have been in, and it looks like it will be continuing. Temps are chilly also, although tomorrow is supposed to be sunny with a high of 71. I just hope California gets some decent rain soon. It looks like the rain is in northern California at least.

Got lots of work to do today. I got behind in recording expenses and doing other domestic chores such as sorting out stuff in my refrig, plus I have to get my class ready for Monday.

Barbie's photos make me miss the desert. I was supposed to be in Arizona and New Mexico last winter, but ended up staying in Eugene. This coming winter will be Florida, but I plan on Arizona and New Mexico for 2020-21.

And I also hate those water-saving washers! My old-fashioned mind thinks you need LOTS of water to wash clothes, plus lots of soap also. Only two teaspoons of detergent???? My Ohio son is constantly complaining about his white t-shirts not being white. Told him he (or his wife) needed to wash them separately with hot water and extra detergent, plus some bleach. (He has given up and keeps buying new one every few months.) I used real cloth diapers on my kids, and they came out bright white with no stains, plus their shirts never looked dingy or grey.

Martha this apartment washer didn’t warn me, just let me walk around with sudsy clothing.
Judy, my aunt lived 1/4 mile away, her laundry was dingy and mine was sparkling white. The problem was her irony well water which I didn’t have. Guess a water softener might help.

I had a "water saving washer" for several years (the kind with no agitator in the middle). My clothes never seemed to get clean, even when (sometimes) I washed them twice.

Finally, this washer failed in a really spectacular way (wrote about this in a previous post - had I been standing next to it at the time, I might have been injured). When I hunted up the receipt to find out just how long I had had it, I discovered (much to my surprise) that it was still under warranty. I didn't at all remember paying the extra bucks for an extended warranty, but there it was, stapled to the receipt.

Anyway, I got a $200.00 credit on my failed washer, and went and bought a new washer with the agitator in the middle. It gets my clothes really clean, my whites sparkling.

I had forgotten what really clean clothes looked like.

My son does have a water softener. It drives me crazy because the guest bedroom is in the finished basement and it cycles in the wee hours of the morning. His wife says she is amazed at how little detergent she has to use these days, so I think that is the problem. I think the other problem is that when families have a lot of laundry and have only weekends to do laundry, they tend to put too many clothes in a single load. Those of us who live alone and are retired or almost so can wash smaller loads.

The other thing is that I have been using the color catcher sheets when I mix dark and light clothes in one load. They really do catch dyes from new things that are floating around in the water.

since washing seems to be a subject...I hear this ad on the CA station talking about beating the water crunch in the summer and how washing clothes after 6pm helps however it's spiel goes... I've never understood the concept... if the people who stay home during the day wash their clothes in the day time and the ones who work wash their clothes in the evening one would think it would be better than the whole group doing their wash in the evening... like I said I don't understand the concept
other than my finishing the fringe I have finished my afghan so glad even though the fringe isn't done I think tomorrow I will take my pattern book and cloth and yarn and needles over to mom's and start a Swedish weave... I wish I had started it this spring when I almost did as I found out that my sister in law and bro in law are coming out and they are the ones I am doing this Swedish weave for.. oh well it won't be done might not even be recognizable. Even though I got up earlier I wasted time laying in bed and doing FB haha did go and quilt for an hour...
a bit of a mystery (I am sure that my son in law will know the answer) I was going to call the propane company to see how long they thought it would take to re-certify the canisters... but hadn't done that yet... took Shadow out this morning and was standing there leaning on the back of the truck when I realized that the canisters were in the truck... wow how did that happen... yes I slept forever yesterday... but I didn't get any notice from them so I could come pick them up... but they are there I am sure that I will need to go get them filled as I don't think they have a hose small enough for the small canisters but haven't taken them out... last night when I went up to the house didn't pay attention then when I realized that I'd forgotten a activity so just got into the truck and drove down to the church... it was dark when I left so didn't see into the back of the truck... anyway glad they are there but HOW???
watching the last part of a Hallmark movie not seen it too bad I didn't switch over sooner

There is some white material that says not to bleach it because bleach turns it yellow.

With all the stain removers I think I have just about tried them all. I have some stains I would like to bring them. I need to wear an apron or a bib when I cook and eat. I can't eat without getting something on my shirt. I find that Dawn dishwashing liquid takes out grease about a well as anything.

Martha sometimes when you get a check engine light it is because your gas cap isn't on tight enough. You can go to an Auto Zone or someplace similar and have them do a check. Auto Zone here does it for free. If they find something like a loose gas cap and they re- set it, you may still get the light until you drive it a couple of times.

The gas cap is the first thing I tried. The Auto Zone by me isn't the most helpful but I'll go by there and see if they will check it.

I know washers didn't start out to be the subject, but it's so nice to hear that others are fussing about Uncle Sam dictating how we will do our laundry. My washer not only saves water by making a full load only 2/3rds full of water, but the temperature is also regulated. Can't wash in hot because the "hot" setting adds cold water and it turns out to be lukewarm. My son gets around that by not turning on the cold faucet until rinse time. Does he often miss catching it? Of course, and the washer complains because we can only rinse in cold for all the temperature choices! The other thing I noticed: Even tho I have 3 or 4 cycles, it doesn't matter which one I choose - the agitator still beats the heck out of the clothes because it agitates at the same rpm for all cycles. The only difference I can see is the length of time. There's nothing gentle about the gentle cycle.

Ya gotta love our government - I sure do resent them sticking their noses into my laundry!

First it was regulating how much water our toilets flushed with and how much water we could shower with, now it is messing with our washing machines!! I really dislike the hot water issue on my washing machine!!

Martha, you are really uptown with your apron. I have a ratty old gray button sweatshirt I wear backwards when I eat spaghetti. What! I live alone and no one sees me. I do have a nice apron made by my favorite aunt. I wear it when I have family dinners so they will think I look like June Cleaver.
